Chapter 26 Meeting
The visitors were Hou Zhiqiang and his wife Ji Yin. The couple rushed into the ward, completely unaware of her presence, and went straight to the old lady on the bed.
"Mom? Mom! What's wrong?"
Startled awake by the commotion, Aunt Hou opened her eyes and saw her son. A wave of fear and grievance washed over her, and she began to cry while murmuring her son's name.
"Qiangzi! You almost didn't get to see your mother today!"
"Mom! It's all my fault..."
"It's good that you're alright. Mom, are you feeling better now?" Ji Yin squeezed Aunt Hou's hand worriedly.
Aunt Hou immediately gripped her daughter-in-law's hand tightly.
"I'm feeling better. It's all thanks to this young lady who saved me; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to get up today with my old bones..."
"Really?" Hou Zhiqiang quickly stood up and looked around, finally spotting Ye Ran standing in the corner.
She hurried over to express her gratitude, "Thank you so much! Young lady, I don't know how to thank you enough!"
Ye Ran pretended to be just passing by and repeatedly reassured her, "No, no, it's just a small matter. I just happened to be passing by and it was just good luck. I'm happy to be able to help you, auntie."
Seeing Ye Ran's humility, Ji Yin's impression of her improved even more. She was her mother-in-law's savior, and she was so beautiful and kind. How could there be such a good girl?
She quickly went up and grasped Ye Ran's hand, "Little sister, don't be so modest. You have no idea how much you've helped us. If anything had happened to my mother-in-law today, Qiangzi and I wouldn't know what we would have done!"
"Yes! Qiangzi, I fell down all day and no one helped me up. Luckily, this young lady passed by. She's beautiful and kind-hearted, and she carried this old woman all the way to the hospital without any complaints."
Hearing his mother's words and seeing Ye Ran's thin and frail appearance, Hou Zhiqiang was even more moved. This girl was so thin, yet she still carried his mother to the hospital. She must have suffered so much!
Thinking about it, Hou Zhiqiang readily said, "There's no need to say anything more, little sister. You saved my mother today, which is a great favor to me, Hou Zhiqiang."
I still have some influence in this small town. If you don't mind, just call me Brother Hou from now on. If you need any help, just let me know!
Ye Ran quickly waved her hand, "No need, it was really just a small favor..."
"Oh! Little sister, listen to your older sister, it's settled then. My name is Ji Yin, and from now on you'll be my little sister!" Ji Yin decisively agreed to the matter.
Ye Ran was secretly delighted, but she still asked somewhat shyly, "Isn't this a bit inappropriate? It's too much trouble for you!"
Aunt Hou chimed in, "What's there to be embarrassed about? We're family now. Girl, what's your name? Come visit us often!"
Ye Ran lowered her head, feigning shyness. "My name is Ye Ran, the character for 'mouth' is 'ten leaves' and the character for 'grass' is 'ran'."
Ji Yin chuckled and patted Ye Ran on the shoulder, "Little sister, you truly live up to your name. You're so beautiful, and your name is so lovely too. I'm growing to like you more and more!"
Ye Ran blushed and glanced at Ji Yin, "No way!"
Ji Yin nodded confidently, "Of course it's true. At least in Ba County, I've never seen a girl like you before."
