Chapter 298 Police and Thieves

The newcomer chuckled and said to the old woman, "How could that be? Who doesn't have water to drink?"

Don't worry, I'm not a bad person. I'm just an ordinary fisherman who was blown here by the wind and waves.

I haven't had any water for hours. Look at my lips, they're so dry they're peeling. Please, have mercy and give me a bowl of water!

The old lady scrutinized him for a long time and realized that his mouth was indeed extremely dry, so she slowly opened the door a crack.

"Just wait here for a bit, I'll go get it for you."

The man happily agreed while waiting.

He looked around listlessly for a few moments, but there wasn't a single other house around.

Looking out, all he saw was desolation. He was getting impatient, and he was exhausted from carrying the wet fishing net.

When he saw the fence next to the house, his eyes lit up, and he excitedly took two steps forward and hung the fishing net on it.

Even after hanging it up, he wasn't satisfied. He straightened the tattered fishing net again, and looking at the large hole that had been torn in it, he gasped in pain.

Seeing that the old woman inside hadn't come out for a while, he continued tidying up, carefully removing the small pieces of wood and debris stuck to the fishing net and casually tossing them around the house.

After waiting for a long time, the old lady finally brought him a small bowl, filled it with water, and handed it to him.

The man gratefully took the water, gulped it down in a few mouthfuls, and then let out a satisfied sigh, "Phew! I'm finally feeling better. Thank you, ma'am."

After watching him finish drinking, the old lady took the bowl he had returned and then prepared to close the door.

The man quickly stopped her, "Grandma, don't worry, tell me first what kind of place this is."

I've looked around and haven't seen anyone. My boat is still tied up on the shore; I can't move it by myself.

"Why don't you check if anyone's home right now? Could you help me tow the boat ashore? I'll pay you!"

The old lady looked at him with a gloomy face. "Alright! It's already kind of me to give you a bowl of water. There's no one else in my family but me. If you want to find someone, go out and find them yourself. It has nothing to do with me!"

"I need to rest now, so you should leave. And if you bring anyone back later, don't you dare bother me, understand?"

The man gave an awkward laugh, twitched his nose slightly, and then walked away dejectedly.

When he reached a point where he could no longer see anyone, the wooden door was finally closed tightly.

A deep voice asked from inside, "They're gone?"

The old woman spat out a mouthful of saliva, "Ah! I wonder where this unlucky fisherman came from and was blown here by the wind."

I observed him for a while, and there was nothing unusual about him. He should be fine, since he had already walked away.

But I just looked over there at the shore, and there really is a boat moored there. They're probably getting someone to tow it away.

The man looked away. "Oh, then it's alright. Taking care of our own business is the most important thing."

We've now reached the most crucial stage; soon, the young master's destiny will be intertwined with your granddaughter's.

"At that time, your granddaughter's fate will be extraordinary, and you won't have to worry about her being 'cursed' by you."

The old lady's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That's wonderful! Thank you so much!"

The person in the shadows smiled slightly and said calmly, "No need to thank me. It's all about mutual help in these kinds of situations..."

The room was completely dark, and nothing could be seen. The old woman groped her way to the table and lit a kerosene lamp.

A faint light then appeared in the room. On the bed by the table, Li Qin lay silently, quietly watching the old lady.
