The old man looked at Yan Wu's expression and said, "Oh dear! Why do you look like that? Are you really alright?"
When I saw her cut her wrists, I immediately stopped her, then used the first aid techniques I had learned to bandage her wounds and took her to the hospital.
She only acted impulsively for a moment, and then she didn't have that thought anymore.
Yan Wu's Adam's apple bobbed a few times. "So... what happened to you afterwards?"
The old man laughed, "Afterwards, I had a calm talk with her, and she felt that we weren't suitable to be together."
She said, "I could have lived a very good life, but for her sake, I've come to the point where I have to sell my blood."
Seeing all this caused her great pain.
She no longer wants to live with me.
Every moment she spent with me caused her pain and guilt.
Yan Wu was taken aback. What did this mean?
The old man gave up his comfortable life and was willing to suffer for her, but did all of this cause her pain?
The old man still laughs when he thinks back to that absurd conversation. "I was very confused at the time and asked her if she said those things because too many things had happened recently."
She said it wasn't for that reason, but because she knew very well that the feelings between her and me had been completely worn away.
Under those circumstances, none of us had the energy to express our love like we used to.
The things we talk about every day, besides life and our children, are long gone. We no longer have time to talk about the Book of Songs or movies like we used to.
She had previously simply put these subconscious thoughts out of her mind, but now, she could no longer deceive herself.
She advised me to part amicably and to go back to my own home.
She took the child away because the child had her blood in him, and my parents definitely wouldn't let the child into the house.
She will live a good life, and she feels that she can be more relaxed as long as she is not with me.
That would be a good thing for both of us, and for the child.
Yan Wu interrupted him, "But you just said your son asked you to help take care of his grandson?"
The old man waved his hand, "Don't panic! I haven't finished speaking yet!"
I didn't agree at the time, but she insisted, to the point that she would remind me of that phrase every time she saw me.
In the end, I agreed.
After that, I went home alone. Ironically, the moment I saw my front door, I felt a sense of relief.
At that moment, I realized that I wasn't as great as I had imagined, and perhaps all along, I had some regrets in my heart.
She had already seen through it, which is why she said those things.
After returning home, my family members tacitly avoided mentioning her, as if nothing had happened.
That only made me feel more empty, so I secretly took some money and put it at her place.
She accepted it, and soon after, she took her children to another place, bought a house and land, and settled there.
I've visited her a few times; she's living a good life, much better than when she was with me.
At least, I have a smile on my face every day.
I went a few times, then I stopped going.
So many years have passed, and I haven't seen her or my son again.
Yan Wu asked, "Why?"
The old man smiled with relief, "Because she got married."
Yan Wu stood there, stunned, and murmured, "Why?"
The old man looked at Yan Wu with his weathered eyes and said softly, "Because feelings can change..."
