Chapter 6 Jade Pendant (2/2)

One day, a monk suddenly came to the Bai family. The monk had a kind face and looked kind and approachable. He gave the impression of being an old man, but he looked to be only about twenty years old.

The monk claimed to be Liao Wu, and said that he had a connection with the Bai family, so he came to bother them.

The gatekeeper, seeing that he was no ordinary person, quickly notified the head of the Bai family at the time, Master Bai.

As soon as Master Bai came out, he bowed deeply to Liao Wu and asked, "Master, what brings you here from afar?"

Master Liaowu smiled slightly: "This humble monk has only wished to save all sentient beings in his life, but all sentient beings suffer and he has never been able to find a way out. Now that I have reached the end of my journey, I have come here to leave behind worldly ties. From now on, I will have no more attachments and will go with the wind."

It turns out that the lotus pond in the Bai family's area was once a temple where Master Liaowu became a monk. After Master Liaowu left, the temple became deserted and no one came to worship. Later, the Bai family bought it and built the lotus pond.

Master Liaowu hoped that the Bai family would allow him to return to his place of monastic life to pass away peacefully. Generally speaking, people in ancient times were particularly superstitious about the dead, let alone someone coming to their home to die.

However, Master Bai was always a kind and benevolent man who believed in Buddhism. Upon hearing this, he immediately agreed and even had a simple temple built for Master Wu on the spot by the lotus pond.

Master Liaowu was deeply moved. Before his death, he gave the jade pendant to Master Bai and told him some words.

Master Bai was overjoyed upon hearing this, and after Master Liaowu passed away, he built a grand temple in his honor.

Although the passage of time has made it impossible to know what Master Liaowu told Master Bai back then, the jade pendant has been passed down in the Bai family from generation to generation ever since, and no one has ever lost it, no matter how the Bai family has risen and fallen.

Our ancestors said that this jade pendant must never be lost. As long as the jade pendant exists, the Bai family exists; if the jade pendant is lost, the Bai family is gone.

When Bai Yue's father, Bai Yi, was being purged, this jade pendant was almost lost.

In order to search for other evidence of the Bai family's connection with the enemy country, the search team turned the Bai mansion upside down and even demolished the house to search for more information.

Fortunately, the jade pendant was worn on Bai Yue's chest at the time, and was a personal item, so it was preserved and later passed on to her daughter Ye Ran.

After hearing the story of the jade pendant, Xu Qingyan became even more interested in it and became more and more considerate towards Ye Ran.

Later, Xu Qingyan was admitted to a university in Beijing, but he delayed his departure as the registration period approached.

He kept muttering that he was reluctant to part with Ye Ran, and regretted not being able to take her with him. He wished he had something to remember her by.

Ye Ran hesitated for a moment, but then said she would take the jade pendant to the capital and told him to keep it safe.

Before giving it to Xu Qingyan, out of some girlish whims, she took out the bead in the middle of the jade pendant, threaded it back together, and wore it on herself.

They thought to themselves that this was their token of love, and that if they both wore it on their chests, their hearts could be closer.

After doing this, she gave the jade pendant to Xu Qingyan, keeping what had just happened as her little secret.

But who knew that Xu Qingyan would take the jade pendant to the capital and never return!

When they met again, Ye Ran had already forgotten about the incident. What truly shocked her was that she remembered being hit by a car and being covered in blood.

At that moment, her chest began to feel hot, and then a faint green light appeared. Immediately afterward, the green light flashed, and Ye Ran returned to the present.

Ye Ran held the jade pendant, filled with doubt and surprise. Could it be that this was the thing that allowed her to be reborn?
