Chapter 261 Night Raid

Chapter 262 Night Raid

A dozen or so people stood guard by the fire, none of them daring to rest or sleep, just waiting.

The mountain wind was still chilly and cold on the spring night, rustling the surrounding branches.

In the distance, the occasional howl of wolves could be heard, proving that the wolves had not gone far and were still lingering nearby, presumably gathering their strength and waiting for help.

"Don't worry, we just need to be careful and hold on until dawn."

Sheng Xiping was afraid that these people were timid and might back down, so he offered words of comfort.

"It's alright, Brother Xiping, we're not afraid. Even if we only have firewood, let alone guns, we're not afraid."

"If the wolves come, we'll have to fight them!" Zhang Zhijun and the others laughed.

"Well, as long as you're not afraid, that's fine. We have a lot of people, and our weapons are very useful. If the wolves come, we'll kill as many as they come."

Wolves are also bullies who prey on the weak and fear the strong. If they see how powerful we are, they'll be afraid and back down." Sheng Xiping smiled, encouraging everyone.

Just then, they heard the howling of wolves coming from afar.

With no one holding guns to guard the front or back, the group slowly walked in, taking advantage of the strong morning light.

Guo Yongping raised his hand, glanced at his watch, and realized it was almost one o'clock.

Then Gao Tou picked up the wolf that had been shot and fallen behind him and dragged it along.

We used up almost all of our ammo when we fought those wolves. We have a lot left, but if the wolves regroup and surround us again, we might not have enough bullets left.

After walking for a short while, Guo Yongping felt a chill down his back, as if he were being watched by something.

After eating and drinking to their hearts' content, the eastern sky began to lighten, and the area outside the woods was much brighter than before.

But at that point, everyone was in a hurry; who cared whether it was a single shot or a full-range shot? As long as the bullets could be replaced, that was enough.

Upon hearing those words, everyone felt a chill run down their spines.

Fortunately, there were only seven or eight pairs of eyes left on the other side at this point, so the eleven of them could deal with the few wolves more easily.

Wolf meat has a rather coarse texture, making it ideal for roasting, but given the circumstances, we had to make do with what we had.

Then we'll go back and pack our things, and rest for a couple of hours. Around 8 or 7 o'clock, it'll be light, and then we'll set off back.”

Especially in the dark of night, the darkness can feel incredibly long and unbearable.

Guo Yongping vaguely remembered that the area to the west was too far away, a chaotic rocky area with no cliffs or caves.

Wolves are extremely impatient wild animals. In order to hunt, they will not chase their prey, such as wild boars, for more than a hundred miles until the prey is exhausted before they pounce on it and kill and eat it.

There was a chance to hit it, but it bought Guo Yongping time, so he was able to reload smoothly and then fire again, killing the wolf that was about to throw its companion at him.

After a while, the wolf meat went bad during roasting, so everyone took turns eating something to replenish their energy.

Shooting at night already requires very little marksmanship, and these wolves were even using the corpses of their companions as human shields.

Their purpose is not to be among the first to charge down and become collateral damage when the wolf pack launches an attack.

I wasn't trying to reload when I saw the wolves on the other side pounce, so I ended up helping Sheng Xiping.

Moreover, the wolves outnumbered each other, and they surrounded the enemy from both the front and rear.

So no one suggested skinning the dead wolves, cutting off some meat, and roasting them to eat. That way, having nothing to do would keep you from getting too sleepy.

That area is not the riverbank, but a fault line formed many years later by earthquakes and volcanic activity. The earthquakes and volcanic activity caused part of the ground to fracture and subside, creating that stepped landform.

These wolves are very cunning; they can use overlapping cover and change lanes to maneuver.

With the wolf pack gone, Guo Yongping and the others breathed a sigh of relief.

He Yingbo had specially trained in night vision with his master, so his eyesight was worse than others. He could barely see what was behind him, so he quickly spoke up to remind him.

"Watch out, cover each other while you reload," Guo Yongping whispered, reminding his men.

Upon hearing this, everyone felt a chill run down their spines, and some even secretly regretted not following Guo Yongping and retreating from the mountain to avoid provoking those wolves.

Within a wolf pack, there is a strict hierarchy and a clear division of labor.

So, a few men stayed behind to keep watch with their guns, while the rest of us skinned the wolves, cut the meat, skewered it with branches, and roasted it.

These strong, sick, or injured wolves are especially prone to being the first to attack, sacrificing themselves for the entire pack.

The semi-automatic magazine requires a complete replacement, rather than loading and unloading each magazine individually, but it is more convenient to replace the entire magazine at once.

Then, several pairs of pale green lights appeared in the distance; needless to say, the wolf pack was approaching.

At that moment, the wolf that had been tracking them all along, making noises, suddenly raised its head and howled.

The wolf pack seemed to have left, but the howling of wolves could be heard again. The surrounding area was noisy, and everyone's hearts finally calmed down a bit.

Therefore, it's hard to understand why these living wolves would use the corpses of wounded or dead wolves as shields.

He Yingbo was reloading his bullets when he was caught off guard. The wolf was about to bite Sheng Xiping with its mouth wide open.

"They're still alive, how come they dare to go back? Are they really afraid of dying?" Zhang Zhijun muttered as he aimed his gun.

Sure enough, a wolf howl echoed from the east, but the sound was filled with anger.

The wolf behind was shot and fell to the ground. The wolf in front was wary of the long, white, painted object the people were holding, and dared not continue to move backward.

Guo Yongping was familiar with the habits of wolves, which is why he led his men to unexpectedly turn west.
