"It's okay, I'll wait until you finish eating before I go eat. What if our little rascal starts crying halfway through your meal?"
Sheng Xiping smiled, leaned over the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), and stared intently at his eldest son.
"My mom said we shouldn't stare at the child all the time."
"Go out and eat, I can't seem to eat these dumplings. Don't worry," Zhou Qinglan urged Sheng Xiping to go eat.
Sheng Xiping refused and just sat there without moving. Zhou Qinglan had no choice but to quickly eat her dumplings.
"Mmm, these dumplings smell really good today. Mom's filling-making skills are amazing, they're delicious."
The sauerkraut and pork dumplings, still greasy inside, were incredibly delicious with just one bite. Zhou Qinglan nodded as she ate.
"Here, have one too." Zhou Qinglan picked up a piece and held it to Sheng Xiping's lips, urging him to eat it.
"You eat by yourself, I'll go back to the east room to eat later. You should eat more, it'll make you feel better than me eating, so hurry up and eat yours."
Sheng Xiping shook his head, telling Zhou Qinglan to eat by herself.
And you know what? Since Zhou Qinglan got pregnant, her appetite has increased. She finished a whole plate of dumplings by herself.
"Mmm, it's delicious, it smells so good."
As soon as Zhou Qinglan finished speaking, Sheng Xinhua, who was lying on the kang (a heated brick bed) sleeping, frowned and started to grumble.
Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping quickly went over, picked up the child, untied the blanket, and reached out to touch him. Goodness, the blanket was soaked.
"You little rascal, you're quite filial, at least you let your mom finish her meal before you start making a fuss."
Sheng Xiping was already very skilled at taking care of children. Before Zhou Qinglan could even lift a finger, he changed his son's diaper and blanket, wrapped him up again, and handed him to Zhou Qinglan.
"Alright, you feed him milk, I'm going back to the east room for dinner. Call me if you need anything."
After saying that, he took the plate and chopsticks out and casually placed them on the stove, then went to the east room to eat.
In the east room, everyone had finished eating, but there were still two plates of dumplings left on the table.
Sheng Xiping ignored all that and sat down on the edge of the kang (heated brick bed) to start eating.
"Boss, eat these, they're still warm."
At this moment, Zhang Shuzhen brought two plates of dumplings into the house and placed them in front of her son.
The dumplings would get cold if left out for too long, so Zhang Shuzhen put two plates of dumplings in the pot beforehand so that her son could eat them hot.
"Mom, I'm fine with whatever I eat, it's okay."
If there are hot dumplings, who would eat cold ones? Sheng Xiping went straight for the hot dumplings.
"Mmm, these dumplings smell really good today, they're delicious."
"Don't eat it plain! There's garlic sauce and chili oil here. Just scoop some of whatever you want onto your plate."
Zhang Shuzhen smiled and pushed the bowls of garlic sauce and chili oil towards her son. "Do you want vinegar? I'll go get you some."
"Mom, no need, it's fine as is. It's sauerkraut filling, no need to add vinegar."
Sheng Xiping waved his hand, took a spoon and scooped some garlic sauce and chili oil into a small dish, then dipped the dumplings in it and ate them.
With Sheng Xiping's appetite, two plates of dumplings were no problem at all, and he finished them off in no time.
After Sheng Xiping finished eating, Sheng Yunfang and Sheng Yunfei picked up all the plates and bowls, wiped the table clean with a rag, and took them to the outer room and stood them against the wall.
Sheng Xiping poured two teacups of hot water and sat on the kang (heated brick bed) chatting with Sheng Liancheng.
"By the way, Lao Liu, how did you do on your final exams? And Xiao Feng, how about you? What were your scores?"
When he came back last time, Sheng Xiping was too busy taking care of his wife and children to ask about these things.
With the whole family here and nothing else to do, Sheng Xiping suddenly remembered something and casually asked.
"Big brother, I did really well on my final exams this time. I got second in the class, just one point behind the first place."
My sister-in-law said my essay was a bit weak, otherwise I would have come in first place.
Upon hearing his older brother mention the final grades, Sheng Xitai became quite proud, patting his chest as he spoke.
"My sister-in-law praised me, saying I'm smart. If I continue to study hard and pay attention in class next semester, I might become the top student in my class."
This guy, it's rare for him to get second place in the class, he'll have something to brag about for years.
"Xiaofeng's grades are also quite good. He got 100 in both math and Chinese. There are three or four students in his class who got 100 in both subjects, so he's tied for first place."
Before Chen Feng could speak, Sheng Xitai mentioned Chen Feng's grades.
"Heh, first-grade questions are so easy, I could get 100 with my eyes closed."
The second-place finish in the class gave Sheng Xitai immense confidence, making him a little too proud.
"Hehe, really? I seem to remember that when you were in first grade, you almost came in last place in your class at the end of the semester."
Sheng Xiping glanced at the eldest son, sneered twice, and asked.
Sheng Xitai, who was feeling smug, deflated instantly upon hearing these words, just like a punctured balloon.
"Brother, Xiaofeng is still here. How can you talk to me like that? Where will that leave my reputation as his uncle?"
Sheng Xitai was unhappy and pouted, muttering something.
"Hmph, your older brother is right. I've noticed you haven't been showing off lately."
Whose credit is it that you got second place in the class? It's your own achievement!
That's your sister-in-law. She watches over your studies at school during the day and makes sure you do your homework and review when you get home. Without her, you'd still be hunting wolves behind your classroom.
Over there, Zhang Shuzhen, having finished cleaning up the kitchen, came into the room, glared at her youngest son a few times, and snorted.
"You keep saying your sister-in-law praised you, but why don't you mention that she told you to read more books, memorize ancient poems, and write a diary? Have you done that?"
You're always taking Xiaofeng out to play, and I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to settle accounts with you. And you're still so smug?
