If it's a shift change, it doesn't count as taking leave. If I come back late at night, I'll have Sheng Xikang go and cover for me.

The next morning, Sheng Xiping got up early to fetch water and cook. He made porridge and dumplings in one pot and dog food in the other. Once the food was ready, he called everyone to get up and eat.
After breakfast, the dog food had cooled down, so I put it into the dog food bowl and fed each dog individually.
Normally, if Sheng Xiping starts feeding the dogs, it means he's going up the mountain that day.
The dogs in the Sheng family are all very clever. As soon as they saw Sheng Xiping feeding them, they immediately knew what was going on.
They wagged their tails and whimpered, afraid that Sheng Xiping wouldn't lead them up the mountain later.
