Chapter 365 New Year, New Look

But Sheng Xihua wouldn't listen at all, and insisted on going outside.

Enraged, Zhou Qinglan gestured as if to teach Sheng Xinhua a lesson.

"Oh, alright, alright, stop with your nonsense. Why are you arguing with a child during the New Year? He's so young, do you think he'll remember if you hit him?"

Upon seeing this, Sheng Liancheng quickly picked up his grandson.

"Boss, hurry up and get Xinhua dressed. You hold him and stand here at the door, cover his ears, and we'll set off the firecrackers from a distance, okay?"

Grandpa loves his grandson so much that even if Sheng Xinhua wanted to watch firecrackers, or even if he wanted the stars in the sky, Sheng Liancheng would find a way to pluck them down for him.

Of course, this task will definitely be left to the child's father.

And so, Sheng Xiping dressed his son in cotton shoes, a coat, a hat, and a scarf.

It's especially cold on New Year's Eve, so we can't let the children get cold. Medical conditions aren't good these days, and if such a little one gets sick, he'll suffer terribly.

Once dressed, Sheng Xiping carried his son out of the house and stood at the doorway.

Over there, Sheng Liancheng had his second brother, Sheng Xi'an, find a wooden pole, lift up a string of 500 firecrackers, and walk to the front gate.

Then, Sheng Xikang took a match and lit the firecracker fuse.

The fuse burned quickly, igniting the firecrackers in an instant. Amidst the crackling sounds, red paper scraps flew everywhere, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of burning gunpowder.

Sheng Xiping was holding his son when the firecracker went off. He covered Sheng Xinhua's left ear with one hand and pulled him into his arms. Little Xinhua's right ear rested on Sheng Xiping's shoulder.

Sheng Xiping meant well, fearing that the noise from the firecrackers would frighten Sheng Xinhua.

But Sheng Xinhua felt that being held in his father's arms like this prevented him from properly watching the firecrackers, and he insisted on breaking free from his father's grasp.

The little guy wasn't afraid at all; in fact, he was quite happy and clapped his hands with glee.

Especially when Sheng Liancheng and the others were setting off those fireworks, the little guy craned his neck, his eyes following the sparks of light exploding in the sky, watching with such focus, without being afraid at all.

Well, his son is a reckless fool.

Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping simply stopped caring about anything else, focusing only on keeping the child from falling. He didn't even bother covering the child's ears, letting him be.

During the Lunar New Year, Sheng Xinhua got quite addicted to watching firecrackers being set off outside. At that time, Sheng Xiping said that they would buy more firecrackers to set off during the Lunar New Year.

So a couple of days ago, Sheng Xiping went to the store again and bought more fireworks.

Sheng Xikang and the others were quite happy to play these games, so they played outside for a while.

Only after the dumplings were cooked and taken out of the house did Zhang Shuzhen call out, and everyone went home satisfied.

"Look at you, such a little kid, you never miss out on any of the excitement."

It was so cold outside on New Year's Eve! You've been out for so long, your little face is all red from the cold.

As soon as Sheng Xiping carried his son into the house, Zhang Shuzhen took him from him. While taking off Sheng Xinhua's hat and scarf, Zhang Shuzhen muttered to herself.

Sheng Xinhua doesn't have much to say now. When his grandmother nags him, he can't keep up, but he doesn't stop talking. He imitates the sound of firecrackers exploding. "Crack, crack."

Sheng Xinhua's actions amused the whole family.

"This little one is so fond of firecrackers. I wonder what he'll be able to do in the future," Zhang Shuzhen said, shaking her head.

"Sigh, who cares what he can do? As long as the child is safe and healthy, that's all that matters."

Sheng Liancheng reached out and hugged his grandson, kissing the little guy on the cheek. "How was it? Did you enjoy setting off firecrackers?"

"Play." Sheng Xinhua was now in the middle of rambling, but his pronunciation was unclear.

Aside from "father" and "mother," most of the other words are just single syllables, and the pronunciation isn't very accurate.

"That's fun! When you're older next year, Grandpa will take you to set off firecrackers."

Sheng Liancheng loved chatting with his grandson, regardless of whether Sheng Xinhua could understand him or not.

"Ah." Sheng Xinhua was quite sensible; no matter what his grandfather said, he always responded.

According to the customs of Northeasterners, words cannot be dropped on the ground; regardless of whether you can catch them or not, you have to catch them.

While the grandfather and grandson were chatting enthusiastically, Zhang Shuzhen and the others had already placed dumplings, garlic sauce, and small dishes on the table.

"Alright, that's enough, stop nagging and hurry up and eat your dumplings. Xinhua hasn't slept all night, so after you finish eating, quickly put him to bed."

Everyone sat down around the table, with Sheng Xinhua sitting between his grandparents, a small plate in front of him.

Zhang Shuzhen picked up three or four dumplings for him, breaking each one in half.

This is done for two reasons: firstly, to allow the heat from the dumpling filling to dissipate quickly so as not to burn the child; and secondly, to prevent the dumplings from containing money.

Sheng Xinhua is a voracious eater; once something goes into his mouth, he never spits it out.

If there were a coin in there, the kid probably would have eaten it.

Sugar, peanuts, dates, etc. are all fine; the pits are removed from the dates so they won't choke the child.

The only problem is this money; if I were to eat it, something terrible would happen.

The little guy ate quite a lot in the afternoon, but he was also very active all night and didn't sleep at all, so he must be hungry by now.

Seeing his grandma breaking the dumplings apart for him one by one, the child became a little anxious, calling out, "Grandma, Grandma." He was asking his grandma for some food.

Zhang Shuzhen blew on the half dumpling before handing it to Sheng Xinhua. Sheng Xinhua took the dumpling, didn't bite it, and stuffed it directly into his mouth.

This kid is already chubby, with a round face. When he eats, his cheeks puff out, which is quite amusing to look at.
