Chapter 387 A Chance Encounter

"Uncle." Weiwei nestled in her mother's arms and pointed back in Sheng Xiping's direction.

Sheng Xiping walked over with a smile. "Hello, comrade. I just met Weiwei here. He said he got separated from his mother, so I waited with him here for a while."

This needs to be explained clearly, otherwise people will think he's a child abductor.

The woman looked up at Sheng Xiping and said, "Thank you, comrade."

"Thanks to your help, otherwise Weiwei would have disappeared somewhere." The woman thanked Sheng Xiping with a grateful expression.

"No need to thank me. I was just passing by and saw him crying there. It was so pitiful. You have to take good care of your child when you go out in the future. If a child this young gets lost, he might never be found again."

Sheng Xiping glanced at Weiwei, who was nestled beside his mother, and waved to him with a smile.

"Alright, you've found your mother. Say goodbye to your uncle." Now that the child had found his mother, he was relieved. He still had things to do and needed to return to the hotel.

"Comrade, wait a minute. Judging from your accent, you're from Northeast China, right? Are you from the Songjianghe Forestry Bureau?"

Unexpectedly, at this moment, the woman suddenly asked a question.

Sheng Xiping was taken aback. How did this person know he was from the Songjianghe Forestry Bureau? He quickly turned around.

"Oh, I'm from Northeast China, from the Songjianghe Forestry Bureau. What's up? Do you know me?"

"No, no, I recognize the briefcase you're holding." The woman smiled and pointed to the bag in Sheng Xiping's hand.

“My wife’s brother is also in Northeast China, and he works for the forestry bureau, Quanyang Forestry Bureau.”

Sheng Xiping works in the security department. A while ago, the forest farm gave each department staff member a briefcase.

On this trip, Sheng Xiping needed to carry various documents such as letters of introduction and checks, so he brought his briefcase with him.

These past few days, he's been going out shopping to buy things for his relatives and friends. Afraid of forgetting what they asked him to bring back, he put the money, letters from home, account books, and a pen in a briefcase so he could buy things according to the letters and keep track of the expenses.

The briefcase had the words "Songjianghe Forestry Bureau" printed on it. The woman probably saw it and, since someone in her family worked at the Quanyang Forestry Bureau, she was curious and inquired about it.

"Oh, the Quanyang Forestry Bureau and our bureau are both in the same county, and the distance between them isn't too far."

Sheng Xiping laughed when he heard this. He never expected to meet someone from his hometown while he was in a foreign land.

"Hello, my name is Hui Yingqi. I was originally from Shanghai, but I was sent to the countryside in northern Xinjiang."

I came back with my child to visit relatives and also to arrange a job transfer. It's been many years since I've been back. I was just taking the child out for a stroll when I almost lost him. Thank goodness I met you.

The woman opposite extended her right hand and smiled.

"Hello Sister Hui, my name is Sheng Xiping. I am an employee of a forest farm under the Songjianghe Forestry Bureau. I am here to accompany one of my colleagues to get a prosthetic leg installed."

"I was just bored and decided to go shopping to buy some things for my family. I never expected to meet Sister Hui."

Sheng Xiping also extended his right hand and shook hands with Hui Yingqi.

"Oh, so where do you live?" Hui Yingqi asked curiously.

Sheng Xiping gave her address, and Hui Yingqi, upon hearing that it wasn't far from where she lived, immediately exclaimed that this was fate.

"Do you want to keep shopping? Or should we go back?"

"Okay, let's go together then. Anyway, I've already bought almost everything I need."

Having someone to travel with is also good, so the three of them took a bus back to their place.

Hui Yingqi heard that Sheng Xiping was accompanying a friend to get a prosthetic leg installed, and she became a little curious about Chen Weimin. So she got off the car with Sheng Xiping and went to the hotel where Sheng Xiping and his friends were staying.

Just then, Chen Weimin was taking a break under a tree on the street below the hotel, and Sheng Xiping introduced him to Sheng.

When Chen Weimin heard that Hui Yingqi had relatives in the Quanyang Forestry Bureau, he felt a sense of kinship, and the group sat under the tree and chatted.

During the conversation, Sheng Xiping learned that Sister Hui's father used to be a professor in Shanghai, but was murdered a few years ago.

Sister Hui went to the countryside in northern Xinjiang, where she met a fellow educated youth, got married, and had children.

Hui-jie has an older sister in the capital, and her mother also lives in the capital now.

Hui-jie came back this time to take care of her father's affairs, to return to her family's old house, and to contact the relevant departments in order to transfer her job back to Shanghai.

The matter is currently being processed, but the procedures are complicated, so we can only wait.

Hui Yingqi chatted quite well with Sheng Xiping and Chen Weimin, and Weiwei was especially close to Sheng Xiping. The group chatted for a while longer.

As it was getting dark, Sheng Xiping said that he would treat everyone to dinner.

Hui Yingqi couldn't refuse, so she finally agreed. The group went to a restaurant, ordered some dishes, and chatted while they ate.

After dinner, Sheng Xiping also escorted Hui Yingqi and Weiwei back to their residence.

After that, Hui Yingqi would often bring Weiwei over to chat with Sheng Xiping and Chen Weimin.

Knowing that Chen Weimin enjoyed reading and writing, she specially brought a very thick book, which was a collection of writers' reflections on their creative process.

It contains interviews with well-known authors such as Zhi Xia, author of "Railway Guerrilla," and Liu Liu, author of "Fiery Diamond."

Chen Weimin treasured the book, spending all his time reading it and saying that it had greatly inspired him.

Fortunately, Chen Weimin could pass the time by reading during this long wait.

More than ten days later, Sheng Xiping went to the prosthetic factory again to inquire about the situation. They said they were working hard to process the prosthetics and that he would have to wait a while longer.

Sheng Xiping had no other choice but to return and continue waiting.
