Chapter 430 Buying a House

"Young man, do you want to buy a house?" the old man who was playing chess suddenly asked.

"Yes, my wife is being transferred to the bureau, so I'm thinking of buying a house here. I wonder if there are any nearby?"

Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping knew there was a chance and immediately replied.

"There is a house, not far away."

Do you see that? Counting east from here, it's the fourth building on the south side of the road. His family is also moving due to a job transfer, and I heard they're selling the house.

However, his house was built by himself, and it cost a lot of money back then, so the price he's asking for is definitely not low.

The old man raised his hand and pointed eastward.

"Hey, sir, could you please do me a favor and take me to see this place?"

Money is no problem, I just want to find a place that's a bit bigger. We have a lot of kids and elderly people in our family, so a small place won't be enough.

Sheng Xiping was overjoyed upon hearing this. The fact that a lot of money had been spent building the house meant that the place was not small and the house was also good, which was perfect.

The old man looked at the chessboard in front of him and hesitated.

He was still playing chess, and it looked like he was about to checkmate someone. He was unwilling to leave now.

"Oh, I've already pointed out the place to you. It's right by the roadside. Just go and ask around. Everyone will know once you tell them."

The old man was reluctant to give up the game of chess, so he waved his hand and pointed eastward, indicating that Sheng Xiping should go and ask him himself.

Sheng Xiping thought about it and realized that it was true. Why bother? He could just go and find out for himself.

So, following the old man's directions, Sheng Xiping walked towards the street to the east, to the fourth house on the south side of the road.

Yes, it is indeed a fairly large courtyard. The three brick houses look quite nice; they must have been built five or six years ago, and everything is quite well-organized.

In broad daylight, most people don't lock their doors. As Sheng Xiping pushed the door open and walked in, he asked loudly, "Is anyone home?"

The people in the courtyard came out after hearing the commotion, and were clearly taken aback when they saw Sheng Xiping; they didn't recognize him. "Who are you looking for?"

Sheng Xiping glanced at her; the other woman was under thirty, dressed quite neatly, and clearly came from a well-off family.

"Oh, I heard that your house is for sale, so I came to inquire." Sheng Xiping nodded to the other party and smiled.

"Oh, oh, then come in, come in and talk."

The woman exclaimed "Oh!" and turned to call out into the yard, "Old Xiao, Old Xiao, someone's here to look at the house."

As they were talking, another man came over from the front yard. He was about thirty years old, wearing a beige shirt and navy blue trousers. He looked very upright and well-mannered.

Sheng Xiping looked at the other person and felt that he looked familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen him before.

"Hello comrade, I heard from someone that you are selling your house?"

My spouse is being transferred to a new job and is looking to buy a house in Songjianghe, so I came to take a look.” Sheng Xiping stepped forward and extended his right hand.

"Hey, Comrade Sheng, you're buying a house?" The other person glanced at Sheng Xiping and laughed.

Sheng Xiping was stunned. The other person obviously knew him, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't remember where he had seen him before.

"Have we met before? May I ask who you are?" How embarrassing! He just can't remember where we've met before.

"Xiao Qingyun, from the fiberboard factory. We should have met when you went to the fiberboard factory."

"You don't know me, but I know you, Director Zhou's son-in-law." Xiao Qingyun smiled at Sheng Xiping, extended his right hand, and the two shook hands.

"Oh, oh, that might be it. You look flustered, but I just can't remember where I've seen you before."

If he was an employee of the fiberboard factory, that would be plausible. Sheng Xiping used to frequently go to the fiberboard factory to pick up goods, so they might have met, but they never spoke.

"Comrade Sheng wants to buy a house? Isn't your family from Qianchuan Forestry Farm?"

Xiao Qingyun gestured for Sheng Xiping to go to the front yard. As they walked, Xiao Qingyun casually asked a question.

"Oh, is that so? My brother is going to high school in the fall, right? I heard that everyone will be coming to our bureau's newly built high school in the fall."

In addition, my wife's job was transferred, so we were thinking of buying a house in Songjianghe for convenience.

Sheng Xiping didn't hide anything and told the truth. People knew him and knew his background, so there was no point in hiding it.

"Yes, yes, that's how it is. Okay, come and take a look with me."

This house was newly built a few years ago when I got married. Now that I'm being transferred for work, I'm planning to sell it.

Why don't you look around first? If you think it's about right, then we can discuss the price.

"Don't worry, just because of Director Zhou's reputation, I can't ask for too much." Xiao Qingyun was a straightforward person, and laughed heartily.

Sheng Xiping nodded and followed Xiao Qingyun into the house.

The three rooms are brick and tile structures. Instead of cement cladding, the exterior is made of red bricks with cement grout.

The bricklayer did a good job; the grouting is neat and tidy, and it looks quite nice.

Inside, there are whitewashed walls, cement floors, and cement stoves and windowsills.

The house is quite spacious, with the north-facing kang (heated brick bed) in the east and west wings, so the outer room is separated. The inner room is the kitchen, and the outer passageway can be used as a dining room or for storing miscellaneous items.

"Come in, come in and sit down." The man led Sheng Xiping to sit down in the east room.

Sheng Xiping glanced around the east room. To the north was a large kang (heated brick bed), with a kangqin (a type of zither), a chest, and other items placed at the end of the kang.

There was a writing desk on the floor, a sewing machine by the south window, and a few chairs and a standing chair.

There were several potted plants on the south-facing windowsill, and the room was quite clean.

It's alright. This house doesn't need much alteration after purchase; just adding some furniture will make it habitable. There are two kang beds in the east and west rooms, which should be enough.
