Zhou Qinglan gave birth smoothly, and her two baby girls are healthy.
Shao Minzhi asked Sheng Xiping to stay with Zhou Qinglan at the hospital while she and Aunt Li went home to cook something for Zhou Qinglan.
"Sister-in-law, thank you so much. You've been helping Qinglan with everything since she got pregnant."
It's already this late, Chen Feng and Chen Yue should be getting out of school soon, right? Why don't you go home first, sister-in-law? There's no one to look after the two kids at lunchtime."
Sheng Xiping couldn't possibly let Shao Minzhi run around doing all that work for him. She had children and a family to support.
"It's okay. I just called Ruiqing. He's going home to cook lunch for the kids today."
After moving to the new house, Chen Feng and Chen Yue also transferred to a nearby school, which was very close to home and didn't require them to be picked up or dropped off. Chen Ruiqing only needed to go home after get off work and cook.
"Don't worry about it. Just stay at the hospital and take good care of Qinglan and the two children. We'll take care of the rest."
Shao Minzhi was also a straightforward person; after saying those words, she turned around and walked out with Aunt Li.
"By the way, sister-in-law, I brought a lot of things from home, including things for the children and Qinglan's health supplements. They're all at the neighbor's house next door."
Seeing that he couldn't stop them, Sheng Xiping quickly shouted something.
"Okay, don't worry," Shao Minzhi replied, and left in a hurry.
The hospital ward was quite warm. The two children were lying in their cribs, covered with blankets, sleeping soundly without crying or fussing.
Zhou Qinglan couldn't sleep, so she forced herself to close her eyes and rest.
When a nurse came to check on Zhou Qinglan, she asked Sheng Xiping to rub his hands together to warm them up before massaging her stomach to help her uterus recover.
So, Sheng Xiping rubbed his wife's stomach while talking to her. As they chatted, Zhou Qinglan actually fell asleep.
Sheng Xiping brought two slaughtered and frozen old hens, a large piece of venison, and nourishing medicinal herbs such as ginseng and gastrodia elata from his home, all for Zhou Qinglan to improve her health.
In addition, there were also blankets, quilts, diaper pads, and diaper diapers that Zhang Shuzhen and Wang Chunxiu made for the baby.
Didn't the doctor say before that she might be pregnant with twins? So her mother-in-law and her own mother prepared a lot, just in case it wasn't enough.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Qinglan really did give birth to twins, and these things came in handy.
Shao Minzhi and Aunt Li cooked millet porridge for Zhou Qinglan, adding brown sugar and dates, and also boiled eggs. The first meal shouldn't be too greasy, as it could easily cause blocked milk ducts.
When Zhou Qingyue returned home at noon, he found that his sister was not there. After asking, he learned that while he was in class, his sister had given birth to twin girls.
This made Zhou Qingyue extremely happy. She quickly grabbed a bite to eat and headed straight to the hospital with her food.
"Sister, this is the food that Sister Chen and Aunt Li made for you. Eat it while it's hot."
Zhou Qingyue stood at the door of the ward, handed the food in, and stood outside for a while until the cold air dissipated before going in.
"You seemed fine this morning, how come you gave birth while I was in class?"
"After all, he's still young and doesn't understand anything," Zhou Qingyue asked, puzzled.
“Your sister gave birth quickly, that’s how it was at Xinhua and Xinyu back then,” Sheng Xiping said with a smile while feeding Zhou Qinglan.
Zhou Qinglan didn't really have much of an appetite, but for the sake of her child, she forced herself to eat the eggs and millet porridge.
While her sister was eating, Zhou Qingyue went over to check on her little niece.
"Oh my, these two kids are so good-looking." Zhou Qingyue was too embarrassed to say the rest.
In his eyes, the child was too ugly. He was all red and wrinkled, and his eyelids were swollen. He looked like a hairless monkey.
Of course, he didn't dare say it directly, for fear that his sister would hear it and jump up to beat him, so he only said half of it.
"You haven't seen a newborn baby. Most of them are like that, mainly soaking in amniotic fluid."
"Wait until she opens her eyes in a while, her little face will have grown bigger, and she'll look much prettier." Even without Zhou Qingyue saying anything, Sheng Xiping knew what he was thinking, so he smiled and said.
Zhou Qingyue still didn't quite believe it, but dared not say so, and could only nod.
He had classes in the afternoon, and with finals approaching, his studies were quite demanding, so after staying at the hospital for a while, he hurried back to school.
When school ended in the afternoon, Chen Feng and Chen Yue insisted on coming to see their little sister.
Chen Ruiqing couldn't refuse the two children, so she brought them over.
The two children didn't find the newborn baby ugly at all; on the contrary, they adored it. However, the baby was too small and delicate for them to touch; they only dared to stand around and look at it.
In the evening, Shao Minzhi stewed pig's trotters with peanuts and stewed lulutong soup, skimming off the oil from the top of the soup.
This soup is for promoting lactation. Zhou Qinglan drank the soup twice, and her milk came in the afternoon of the second day. Although it wasn't a lot, it was enough for her two daughters.
Zhou Qinglan had a natural birth and didn't need to stay in the hospital for long. She was discharged on the morning of the 16th.
The weather was particularly cold in December, and Chen Ruiqing, worried that Zhou Qinglan and her daughter might catch a cold, specially arranged for a jeep to come over.
Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qingyue each carried a baby, and helped Zhou Qinglan, who was wrapped up tightly, back to the small courtyard where they lived.
Back home, everything was much easier. Sheng Xiping took care of his wife and children, Aunt Li did the laundry and cooked, and Zhou Qingyue would rush home whenever she didn't have class to help chop wood, shovel coal, and start a fire.
The house has a stove and a heated wall, both of which are very warm. In addition, with three meals a day, the kang (a heated brick bed) is also quite warm, making the house very cozy, so neither adults nor children suffer.
With everyone taking good care of her, Zhou Qinglan rested well and had plenty of breast milk. In addition, the baby girl herself had a light appetite, so there was enough breast milk for the child, and there was no need to add formula.
