Chapter 502 A Brief Reunion, Then Parting Ways
It's rare for everyone to get together, so it feels like there's always something to talk about and endless chatter.
After finishing their meal around 4 p.m., the women cleared the table, while the men sat on the sofas and stools, drinking tea and continuing their chatter.
It wasn't until it was dark outside that Liu Yujiang remembered they still had to go home.
"What are you going back to? What time is it? It's pitch black outside. By the time you drive home, it will be the middle of the night."
Besides, Yujiang and Yuhe have both drunk quite a bit of alcohol, and the road is difficult to travel on, especially at night.
"We're all staying here tonight, it's rare for us to get together, and we haven't had enough of chatting yet." Upon hearing this, Sheng Liancheng quickly stopped them.
"Yes, yes, Master, don't go back tonight, stay at home."
"There are lots of fun things to do in town. Tomorrow, your older brothers will take you around, and you can go home the day after tomorrow." Sheng Xiping also advised.
Liu Changde thought about it and realized it made sense; walking back so late at night was indeed inconvenient. "Alright then, I'll stay at your place tonight."
"Uncle, Aunt, please stay at home tonight as well."
Sheng Xiping had already guessed that his parents would definitely ask about it afterward, so he didn't hide it and just admitted it directly.
The group played at the Sheng family's house for a while longer, until around 8:30, when the children were all yawning from sleepiness, and Zhou Mingyuan's family finally got up to say goodbye.
"Okay, that's fine. I just wanted to ask because I had a lot of things to do today and was afraid you might have forgotten."
"Oh, it's been years since I've slept on a kang (heated brick bed), it's so comfortable," Wu Bingzhong said, lying in bed.
Wu Bingzhong had drunk some wine in the afternoon, and now he was lying in a warm bed, and soon he became drowsy.
Zhou Mingyuan and his wife greeted Wu Bingzhong and the others, and then left the Sheng family with their son, daughter-in-law, daughter, and grandson.
On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, all places except the guesthouses near the train station will be closed.
"Brother Wu, Brother Liu, well, it's getting late, you should get some rest too. We can chat again tomorrow when you're free."
It was getting late, and Wu Bingzhong and the others were already quite tired from traveling these past few days. They had also drunk some alcohol in the afternoon, so they were feeling weak. Therefore, Sheng Xiping quickly arranged for everyone to rest.
The Sheng family was considered lucky; when Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qinglan got married, both sides provided four sets of bedding and four sets of blankets.
"Boss, did you know about Yu Cheng and our fifth brother's affair beforehand?"
The kang (heated brick bed) in the outer room of the west wing is a little small, just enough for the Liu family of four to live in.
“Okay, it doesn’t matter where we live. We’ve lived in the wilderness before, during the war.” Wu Bingzhong nodded with a smile and agreed.
"You're really something. Such a big thing, you could at least have given us a heads-up beforehand."
"The main problem is that the Forestry Bureau Hotel is closed these days, and the guesthouse is not as good as my home." Sheng Xiping turned to discuss with Wu Bingzhong.
Chen Weiguo and his family went back to the forest farm. Before leaving, they gave the house key to Aunt Li and asked her to go and heat up the kang (a traditional heated bed) when she had time.
Later, after moving to Songjianghe, Zhou Qinglan added many more bedding items.
The Liu family of four, the Wu family of four, plus the Sheng family of more than ten people, could squeeze in and live comfortably, but they didn't have enough bedding.
When the Sheng family went to the capital to propose marriage, they gave Wu Yuhua a gold bracelet as a gift. Now that the Wu family is proposing marriage, their gift certainly cannot be lower than that.
"I gave it to them, I gave it to them before I even ate."
There were many people from the Sheng family today, and Wu Bingzhong was so busy chatting with Liu Changde and the others that he didn't pay much attention to these things. Now that he remembered, he quickly asked a question.
"In a little while, have Qinglan take the four children to stay at my place," Zhou Mingyuan whispered to Sheng Xiping.
After thinking for a moment, Sheng Xiping went to find Aunt Li again and asked her to take Sheng Yunfang, Sheng Yunfei, and Sheng Xitai to stay at Chen Wei's house.
"Yes, I know a little bit. Yu Cheng mentioned it to me when we were in Shenzhen."
The Zhou family had two kang beds. The kang in the east room was larger, and Zhou Mingyuan and his wife, along with Zhou Qinglan and their four children, lived there.
"By the way, honey, have you given Yunfei the gift?"
Just like we agreed at home, the watch, the gold necklace, and the jade bracelet my grandmother gave me when I married you—all of them will be given to Yunfei.
"Okay, sure." Sheng Xiping nodded. This way, they could save several sets of bedding.
With this arrangement, we have enough bedding at home.
The guesthouse near the train station is quite far away and the conditions aren't very good. How could Sheng Xiping send someone to stay elsewhere? It's better to stay at the Sheng family's house.
The kang (heated brick bed) in the west suite was large enough for the Wu family of four, plus Wu Yuhua and her son, to have plenty of room to live together and chat intimately.
Yu Wenlan gently patted her grandson to sleep while replying softly.
Meanwhile, in the inner room of the east wing, Sheng Liancheng tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Sheng Liancheng lived in the inner room of the east wing with his three sons, while Zhang Shuzhen and Feng Shuyan lived in the outer room of the east wing, where Zhang Shuzhen could help Feng Shuyan look after the children at night.
The kang (heated brick bed) was quite warm, and the bedding had been taken out and laid out beforehand. The bed was warm and cozy, and it was exceptionally comfortable to lie down in.
With the silk quilts and cashmere blankets that Sheng Xiping brought back from other places, it was enough for a dozen or so people before, but if there were more, it would be impossible to make room.
The kang (heated brick bed) in the west room was small, so it was left for Zhou Qingyue and his wife to live in. Zhou Qingyang and his wife could move back to the corner building, which was perfect.
Fortunately, Wu Yucheng had prepared in advance. He had bought a watch and a gold necklace in Hong Kong, and Yu Wenlan added a family heirloom jade bracelet. This was a very generous gift.
Sheng Liancheng felt that his boss was too calm today and didn't seem surprised at all, so he guessed that his boss must have known something in advance.
