For some reason, as soon as Sheng Xiping walked up to the dogs, the dogs that had been howling just moments before suddenly became quiet, tucked their tails between their legs, and scurried into their dens.
Sun Jinggang and Wang Dongcheng were both stunned. "What's going on? Why are the dogs so scared of you that they're hiding in their dens?"
These dogs are pretty impressive. When they were first bought, their owner personally delivered them to the yard and tied them up.
For the first two days after we arrived, we didn't dare get too close when feeding the dog. We put the food bowl on the ground and pushed it over little by little with a stick.
These past few days, I've at least gotten them a little more docile. Why are they so afraid of you?
"Oh, maybe it's because I have the scent of tigers on me, and they can smell it?" Sheng Xiping thought to himself, and that was probably the reason.
Even the fiercest dog can be terrified by the scent of a tiger.
Sun Jinggang and his group had heard Pan Desheng and others mention that Sheng Xiping had kept a tiger at home.
It's been many years, but whenever the tiger has free time, it goes back to the Sheng family and brings them prey.
So when Sheng Xiping said that, the two of them suddenly realized. "It has to be President Sheng, he keeps a tiger at home."
As they were talking, several people came out of the house, including Zhang Zhiqiang and Pan Desheng.
They didn't go home for the Chinese New Year; they stayed here all the time. They came out to check because they heard the dog barking.
"Hey, Xiping, you're back! How's everything at home?"
Upon seeing Sheng Xiping, the group jumped for joy and immediately surrounded him, bombarding him with questions about his family.
"Quickly, come inside, it's warm inside."
The crowd ushered Sheng Xiping into the house and sat him down, and then they started talking about the forest farm.
The conversation eventually turned to the murder case at the Dajianchang site.
“That rascal Sun Jingang is a bad influence. He got into a fight with Widow Tao, and on the night of the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, while Widow Tao’s two children were asleep, they did it together.”
After the deed was done, Widow Tao refused to accept it, demanding either five thousand yuan from Sun Jingang, or that he divorce his wife and marry her. Otherwise, she would call the police.
"Sun Jingang had just had a few drinks that day, and the two of them started arguing. I don't know how they got carried away."
He grabbed the kitchen knife from Widow Tao's house and chopped her down.
This disturbed the two sleeping children, and the boy, without hesitation, killed them both as well.
Having killed someone and having nowhere to go, Sun Jingang walked all the way to Songjiang River that night and sought refuge at the home of a drinking buddy.
He was planning to get some money and run away in a few days, but he was discovered and reported to the police, and was arrested on the spot.
