Chapter Fourteen: Turning Points

My son has grown up and even got into a very good university. I have no worries about his future.

Sheng Xiping had set aside a large sum for his son's education fund long ago and also bought various insurance policies.

These alone are enough for his son to study until he no longer wants to. Not to mention, there's a large inheritance after Sheng Xiping's death.

It should be said that as long as his son doesn't get involved in illegal activities and studies, finds a job, and lives a decent life, there will be absolutely no problem.

My son has a good personality and shouldn't go astray, so I'm not worried about him.

As for his wife, there's even less to worry about.

She's still young; she's in her forties but looks like she's in her early thirties. Before, when we went out together, people always thought she was his daughter.

She's beautiful, rich, and has plenty of free time. She doesn't even have to serve this old man, Sheng Xiping. She's probably living a more carefree life than anyone else. Why would Sheng Xiping need to worry about her?

He's in his sixties, so he can take things in stride.

Since the person is dead, don't worry about what happens after they die. Whether it's their daughter-in-law or their son, everyone has their own destiny. They're doing just fine without him, so there's really no need to be too concerned.

However, while everything seems to be going smoothly, there are hidden dangers everywhere. We should think about how to deal with them.

If he insists on being with Zhou Qinglan, he will definitely clash with Sun Yunpeng again in this lifetime.

Having experience from a past life, it would be easy to avoid the night of the incident.

But who dares to say that by avoiding that night, he could avoid the conflict with Sun Yunpeng and Du Jiabin?

Given their personalities, it's highly unlikely that they would stand by and watch Zhou Qinglan fall into Sheng Xiping's arms.

They'll definitely pull some more tricks, and who knows, they might even come up with more vicious methods.

Therefore, simply avoiding them won't solve the problem; he needs to find a way to get rid of these two people.

Either make them disappear, or force them to leave.

Both of these must be done so that no one can detect that Sheng Xiping is behind them.

Once discovered, given the Sun family's current power, Sheng Xiping will certainly suffer the most severe retaliation.

But how exactly can we do it? How can we resolve this quietly and without making a sound?

This is indeed not easy; it requires careful planning and there can be no mistakes.

God gave him a second chance to make up for his regrets, not to let him repeat the same mistakes.

Zhou Qinglan couldn't bear to let go; he also wanted to protect his parents and relatives.

Those hidden dangers must be handled with even greater care and caution.

Neither Sun Yunpeng nor Du Jiabin, nor the forces behind them, can disturb his life in this lifetime.

Anyone who makes things difficult for Sheng Xiping will be dealt with equally severely.

Having weathered countless storms, what are these little difficulties in the present?

I refuse to believe that with the experience and knowledge from my past life, I can't possibly lose to those people.

A multitude of thoughts swirled in Sheng Xiping's mind, causing him to toss and turn, unable to fall asleep.

I don't know how much time passed before I finally drifted off to sleep.

Qianchuan Forest Farm is located in the Changbai Mountain area, where it gets light very early in the summer.

It was already getting light outside around 3 a.m., and someone's rooster nearby started crowing early in the morning.

The diligent women got up, dressed, and prepared to cook when they heard the rooster crow.

Sheng Xiping didn't sleep soundly; he was startled awake by the crowing of a rooster outside.

He lay in bed, peering at his surroundings through the dim light coming through the curtains.

Sure enough, when he woke up, he was still in Qianchuan Forest Farm. This was not a dream; he had really been reborn, and he really could not go back to his previous life.

Sheng Xiping sighed, resigned to his fate.

Since I was awake and couldn't fall back asleep, I decided to get up, get dressed, and go to the river in front to fetch water.

Qianchuan Forest Farm still doesn't have running water; people have to fetch water from the big river in front of it.

Spring, summer and autumn are better, but in winter, you have to chisel holes in the ice.

So every winter, you can see holes dug out by people carrying water all over the river.

Sometimes, Sheng Xiping would break ice holes to fish, and surprisingly, he'd catch quite a bit. In the dead of winter, it was a good way to add some vegetables to the family's diet—pretty nice.

Sheng Xiping carried water back and forth three times before he finally filled the water tank at home.

At this moment, Zhang Shuzhen also got up, washed her face, gathered firewood, lit it, and began to cook.

The pheasant meat in the pot is almost cooked. Once the fire is lit and the soup in the pot is boiling again, add the washed and squeezed mushrooms, season again, and simmer slowly.

There are eight people in my family. How big is that pheasant? It's not enough to feed us.

Zhang Shuzhen knew how much her children could eat, so she rummaged through the cupboard and found some vermicelli, washed it with water, and spread it on top of the chicken and mushrooms.

Now that we have the ingredients, we still need to cook.

There's only one big pot at home, which is occupied by chicken and mushrooms, so there's no way to cook rice in the morning.

So I scalded the cornmeal with hot water, mixed it well, shaped it into a ball with both hands, and slapped it against the side of the pot with a little force.

The pan is hot, so the pancake won't slide to the bottom when it's stuck to the pan.

And so, the bottom of the pot was filled with pheasant, mushrooms, and glass noodles, while a ring of golden-brown flatbreads was stuck around the edge of the pot.

Cover the pot and after half an hour, the mushrooms and vermicelli are cooked, and a layer of golden-red, crispy rice crust has formed under the pancakes on the side of the pot.

Zhang Shuzhen used a shovel to scoop the cornbread off one by one and put them into a willow woven rice basket.

Then sprinkle the chopped scallion and garlic leaves into the pot, stir it once, and then transfer the dish to a bowl.

The aroma wafted out with the steam, and the little smell was enough to make anyone's mouth water.

"Alright, everyone get up and eat. This morning we have chicken stew with mushrooms and vermicelli. Anyone who gets up late will miss out."

Zhang Shuzhen pushed open the door to the west room and called out.

Normally, these brats are all lazy and you can't wake them up with a single word.

Sheng Xitai, in particular, loves to stay in bed and sleep in, and it takes several calls to wake him up each time.

Sometimes, when Zhang Shuzhen got really angry, she would slap him on the buttocks twice, and only then would Sheng Xitai groan and get up.

But this morning, as soon as Zhang Shuzhen called out, all three of her sons opened their eyes instantly.

Sheng Xitai did a somersault and jumped out of bed.

"Oh, I can smell the fragrance."

As he spoke, the kid started putting on his clothes. Once dressed, he didn't care about anything else and dashed out in a flash.

Zhang Shuzhen could only shake her head helplessly as she watched her youngest son's nimble movements.

This child, I've never seen him put so much effort into anything other than eating.

Sigh, they're still young now, so we can say they don't know any better, but what if they're still like this when they grow up?

Just thinking about it makes me feel so worried. These children are all debts. I don't know what I did to owe them in my past life, that I have to pay them back in this life.

"Hurry up, everyone go wash your faces and hands, and eat your meal quickly so you can go to school. Sheng Xitai, if you're late again, I'll skin you alive."
