Chapter Ninety-Eight: A Bountiful Harvest

Chapter 99 yielded fruitful results.

The group used flashlights and sticks to dig out all the traps buried on the edge of the field. Then they split into two groups and quickly went to help Sheng Xiping and Sun Yunpeng.

Over there, Sheng Xiping and Sun Yunpeng had already gutted the wild boar.

Being close to the village, one cannot worship the mountain god, lest it attract wild animals.

So the group cleaned up the bloodstains on the ground and carried the wild boar back.

They killed three wild boars—two large and one small—in one night, which was a great haul, and everyone was overjoyed.

Sheng Xiping praised Sun Yunpeng and Du Jiabin extensively, saying that their marksmanship had improved greatly and they were ready to graduate.

If the two of them train hard, they will definitely be even better than Sheng Xiping in the future.

"Xiping, look at this meat, how should we prepare it?"

The people at Qianchuan Forest Farm couldn't stand hearing this, so they changed the subject.

Sheng Xiping looked at the people around him and smiled.

"How about this, tomorrow morning, pick a few people to come with me, along with my two dogs, and go into the mountains again."

I reckon there are probably still wild boars caught in the snares, let's go chase them.

Furthermore, we killed the two largest wild boars in that group, and the remaining smaller ones can't get very far.

Tomorrow we'll try to catch and kill one or two more, so they can't cause any more trouble and won't be able to harm our crops.

Sheng Xiping had planned this all along; he had set up some traps along the wild boar's escape route.

Given the level of commotion just now, it's possible that some people have fallen into a trap.

The two large pigs were already dead, leaving only some yellow-haired pigs and pigs that had been there for a year. Erlang Shen and General Hei were more than capable of dealing with them.

I'll take the dog into the mountains tomorrow and try to get rid of this litter of pigs so they won't come back to wreak havoc on the land again.

After the previous badger hunt and tonight's wild boar hunt, everyone in the educated youth team admired Sheng Xiping immensely.

Therefore, Sheng Xiping's words carry absolutely weight these days.

"Okay, let's do as the captain says. We'll go into the mountains again tomorrow."

Du Jiabin and Sun Yunpeng achieved remarkable results tonight, and were once again praised by Sheng Xiping to the point of being bewildered. Both of them are full of confidence.

At the same time, the two became even more obsessed with hunting, wishing they could go into the mountains every day.

At this point, no one was bothered to go home anymore, so they simply found two rooms in the communal house, lit two fires, and rested.

The three wild boars, two large and one small, were also dragged to the house next door.

The three pig offal were hung directly on the roof beam to prevent any animals from stealing them in the middle of the night.

They're all young lads, full of energy; one night is nothing, they can easily handle it.

The next morning, Sheng Xiping went home, brought Erlang Shen and the Black General over, and fed them a pig's heart.

After that, he led two dogs, along with seven or eight people including Sun Yunpeng, Du Jiabin, and Wang Jianshe, and went into the woods with their tools to look for wild boar tracks.

Not long after entering the forest, Erlang Shen spoke up, undoubtedly because he had smelled the scent left by the wild boar.

Erlang Shen led the Black General in front, while Sheng Xiping and his men followed behind.

After chasing for about three or four miles, they heard a barking of dogs, accompanied by the squeaking and screaming of wild boars.

"Hurry up, let's go take a look." The squealing of this pig didn't sound like that of a large pig. Sheng Xiping guessed it must be one of the piglets that escaped last night.

The group quickly caught up and, after crossing a small hill, discovered that Erlang Shen and his two dogs, Black General, had pinned a yellow-haired creature firmly to the ground.

Erlang Shen and his two dogs together weigh about 170 or 180 pounds. Taking down a yellow-haired dog weighing about 100 pounds with a leash around its neck would be a piece of cake, wouldn't it?

Then I saw two dogs, one in front and one behind, pin the pig to the ground.

The blond-haired boy struggled and screamed, but he couldn't break free.

"I'll do it. I'll just shoot it dead."

Upon seeing this, Du Jiabin was overjoyed and picked up his gun to step forward.

"You'd better shut up." Sheng Xiping reached out and stopped Du Jiabin.

“My two dogs were holding down a pig when you fired the shot and hurt one of them.”

As Sheng Xiping spoke, he took the knife handed to him by Wang Jianshe, stepped forward, and killed the blond-haired rascal with a single stroke.

The blond-haired boy let out a few mournful cries and then fell silent.

Generally speaking, when dogs go hunting in the mountains with people, they wait to eat the prey they bring down.

Unexpectedly, while Sheng Xiping was dealing with the blond-haired man, Erlang Shen and General Hei took off and charged forward again.

Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping knew there was still prey ahead.

The two dogs came over and pinned down the little yellow dog without any effort. The two dogs had a lot of energy to burn, so they ran away again.

“Wei Guo, you guys cut this pig open and send it back. I’ll follow the dog and see what’s going on. There might be more.”

Sheng Xiping was worried that something might happen to the dog, so he quickly went after it.

Sun Yunpeng, Du Jiabin, Wang Jianshe, Gao Haining, and several others followed closely behind to chase the dog.

Chen Weiguo led the others to untie the little yellow-haired animal from its sheath, then gutted it and carried it back to the collective household.

Two dogs were running ahead, while Sheng Xiping and his men were chasing after them.

Erlang Shen led the way, with General Hei following closely behind. They crossed two hills and then turned a corner.

On a sunny hillside, three half-grown pigs were sleeping under a red pine tree.

These three must be the pigs that escaped last night.

The others scattered, leaving only these three who ran quite a distance in one breath. Seeing that there was no danger, they found a place to lie down and rest.

Unexpectedly, Erlang Shen was not going to let them go at all, and actually followed their scent.
