Guo Yongping and the others worked all night, hoping to achieve something.
When I got up early, I saw that the clip seemed to have been triggered, but it hadn't caught anything.
The condoms were pushed out, and some were even bitten through.
There was no movement at their ambush site; no badgers had passed by last night.
We had been guarding the sweet potato field all night, but those cunning badgers had unexpectedly moved to another spot and wreaked havoc on the cornfield.
This infuriated Guo Yongping and the others, but what could they do when they couldn't even spot a badger?
When Sun Yunpeng and the others came to hand over their shifts in the morning, they saw the state of the cornfield. Some of the more sarcastic ones made fun of the educated youth who had been watching the field the night before.
As a result, the two groups almost came to blows.
If Sheng Xiping and his group hadn't arrived just in time to separate them, they probably would have started fighting before they even got to work.
"Hmph, no need for you to show off. Let's see how many you can catch tonight."
All you're good for is talking. If you can catch three or five of them, I'll be impressed.
Guo Yongping and the others angrily declared that they were going home for dinner.
"Just wait and see, we'll see tonight."
"We got the guns back. If that badger dares to come into the fields and damage the crops at night, I'll shoot it dead." Du Jiabin said smugly.
Yesterday they went to the security department and got all the guns back.
To guard the green hills, you need a gun to deal with wild animals, and the security department can't just withhold the guns.
They say a gun is a man's courage; with a gun in hand, what is there to be afraid of?
Sheng Xiping heard this on the other end and could only shake his head inwardly. Let them do it, keep doing it.
With their limited skills, they might be fine without guns.
Once you have the gun, whether you use it to shoot badgers or people is another matter entirely.
When the tasks were assigned, it was agreed that each of the three groups would rely on their own abilities. Whoever was capable of killing the badger would get to eat the meat, while those who weren't capable would just watch.
So Sheng Xiping ignored how smug those people were and simply led his men to start cleaning up the houses on the edge of the land.
There are quite a few houses here, about ten or so, all of them are log cabins made of mud and straw, but they are larger than the houses in the workers' homes.
The plan envisioned a canteen, a warehouse, and dormitories for the educated youth.
"This is the blueprint provided by the venue."
The two rooms at the east end were used as warehouses, and the two adjacent rooms were used as dormitories for female educated youth. The three rooms in the middle were used as a kitchen and canteen.
"The three rooms at the west end are reserved for the male educated youth." Sheng Xiping took out a design drawing of the housing team and showed it to everyone.
“Each room in the dormitory has two kang beds, one facing north and one facing south, to prepare accommodations for the educated youth who continue to move up the mountain later.”
Collective households meant that educated youth lived together and worked and produced together.
Sheng Xiping and his group were among the first group of educated youth to stay at the forest farm. More educated youth from the forest farm or elsewhere would be assigned to the farm in the future.
Therefore, the dormitories for educated youth could not be too small. They had two kang beds, one on the north side and one on the south side, so that more people could live there while also keeping the place warm.
"After we finish cleaning the house, let's tidy up the yard and put up some garden canes."
It's close to the woods here, and I'm worried about wild animals at night.
Uncle Hu said, "Let us raise a few pigs and a few sheep, so at least we can have a more varied diet."
"It would be best if we could raise a few more cows or something to help with the work."
With so many educated youth, what can they possibly do with the meager income from their family teams?
These days, they're not allowed to trade or deal in goods, so all they can do is raise pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, and the like.
Besides enriching your life, you can also make money.
Old Hu meant well, wanting to make life easier for these educated youth.
Sheng Xiping didn't want to comment too much on this. After all, none of these things could be achieved in his previous life.
Sun Yunpeng died, Sheng Xiping went to jail, and all the educated youth from the forest farm moved out of the collective households and went home.
With the recruitment of workers and the resumption of the college entrance examination, the collective household registration of Qianchuan Forest Farm disbanded within two years.
These arrangements were made by the stadium and the family teams. Sheng Xiping was just relaying the information. As for what happens in the future, well, that's up to us.
No one had any objections, so they quickly assigned tasks and got to work.
These houses are quite old; large patches of mud plaster have peeled off the outside of the log cabins, and the thatch and bark on the roofs have rotted from years of rain.
To clean the house, the first step is to repaint all the walls, inside and out.
Replace the entire roof, and it would be best to install a suspended ceiling for better insulation.
Once everything outside is tidied up, we'll reinstall the doors and windows, and inside, we'll build a kang (heated brick bed), a stove, and partition walls.
Let it air out for a while, and you can move in before winter.
They're all young people, impatient by nature. Once they've decided what to do, they get to work right away.
So the group split into several groups, and some of them tidied up the messy things in each room.
Some people took tools and peeled off all the yellow mud from the inner and outer walls, smashed it, and waited to mix it with yellow soil, grass, and other things to re-plaster the walls.
Some people even climbed ladders onto the roof and peeled off the tattered thatch and bark.
Then they went into the woods to cut grass and peel bark from trees to use for relaiding the roof.
A busy day passed quickly, and in the evening it was Sun Yunpeng and Du Jiabin's turn to keep watch over the greenery.
This group wasn't entirely stupid. Learning from the failure of Guo Yongping and his men yesterday, they didn't set traps or snares, but instead patrolled at night with guns in their hands.
For a while, they were always showing off in the woods with guns. Anyway, they've made some progress.
Sun Yunpeng used a double-barreled shotgun, specifically designed for shooting with shotgun shells, which could be loaded with bird bullets, buckshot, or slugs.
