Chapter 384 Picking Up the Train

"I had to stop him, otherwise he would be married by now." Sheng Xiping laughed heartily upon hearing this.

"Come on, let's go home first and rest for a while. This afternoon I'll accompany you to help your younger siblings with their school enrollment procedures."

Chen Ruiqing smiled, took a piece of luggage, and led the group towards the opposite side of the station.

After exiting the station, walk a short distance across the street, and the No. 6 trolleybus stops at the station.

Chen Ruiqing led Sheng Xiping and the other two onto the tram, struggling to put down their luggage. The tram traveled south along Stalin Street, stopping and starting along the way.

Sheng Xi'an had only returned to his hometown once when he was a child, with his parents. He was too young then to remember what he saw.

This should be considered the first time he had traveled far from home since he grew up, and it was even in the provincial capital. Sheng Xi'an felt that there were people, cars, and tall buildings everywhere.

The majority of people were cyclists, moving in two rows, constantly weaving through traffic.

The surrounding sounds were also very noisy, unlike the tranquility of the forest farm.

Sheng Xi'an was completely stunned, disoriented, and couldn't tell which way was which.

The tram swayed and bumped along the way, stopping and starting. Half an hour later, Chen Ruiqing told Sheng Xiping and the others that they were almost there.

Tell them to pack their luggage properly, make sure they don't forget anything, and stop at the Huimin Road stop ahead.

Sure enough, the ticket seller called out from the front. Sheng Xiping and the others, carrying their luggage, got off the bus one by one after it came to a complete stop.

"Come on, let's come this way. My home is right here. Actually, it's not far from Northeast Normal University. I'll take you there this afternoon and you'll see."

From now on, my younger siblings will come over for dinner every weekday when they don't have much to do. Xiaofeng talks about you all the time.

Chen Ruiqing helped carry the luggage and led Sheng Xiping and the others along Huimin Road. After several twists and turns, they arrived at a small alley.

Chen Ruiqing used to live in the staff quarters of his work unit, but after his accident, his original housing was taken back by the work unit.

After he returned to work, he couldn't go back to his original house, so his employer reassigned him to a separate residence, a small courtyard house.

The courtyard wasn't large, with three brick and tile houses, and there were also storage rooms, toilets, and other facilities. Though small, it had everything one needed, and in Sheng Xiping's eyes, it was much better than those tenement buildings.

Chen Feng and Chen Yue were both at school and not at home, so Shao Minzhi went up to open the door and welcomed the three members of the Sheng family inside.

"Come in, come in and sit down, rest for a while. I'll go cook now. When Xiaofeng comes back and sees you, he'll be so happy."

Shao Minzhi greeted the Sheng family with a smile and ushered them into the house. Then she found a teapot and tea leaves and quickly brewed them a pot of tea.

Seeing that it was getting late, Shao Minzhi asked Chen Ruiqing to stay in the house and chat with Sheng Xiping and the others, while she went to the kitchen to start a fire and cook.

"Sister-in-law, let me help you."

Seeing Shao Minzhi busy with her work, Zhou Qinglan felt bad and quickly followed her out, rolling up her sleeves to help.

"Oh, sister-in-law, no need for that. I've already prepared the dishes; they're all ready-made, just need to be heated up."

Ruiqing originally said she would treat you to a meal.

"Lunchtime is short, so let's wait until the afternoon. We'll go to your school first to complete the enrollment procedures, and then we'll find a restaurant to celebrate properly."

It was Zhou Qinglan's first time visiting the Chen family, so Shao Minzhi couldn't let her cook. She quickly sent Zhou Qinglan back to her room to rest, while Shao Minzhi busied herself in the kitchen, frying and cooking, and soon prepared six dishes.

Chen Feng is in the third grade, and Chen Yue is in preschool. They both attend the same school, which is not far from the Chen family home.

At noon, Chen Feng picked up his younger sister from preschool. The two children strolled home without needing any adult assistance.

"Mom, I'm home from school. Is dinner ready yet? I'm starving."

Chen Feng, who is eleven years old (by Chinese reckoning), is already quite tall and has a big appetite. Like all school children, he shouts that he's hungry as soon as he gets home from school at noon.

"All you do is eat! Don't you even see we have guests? Go inside and see who's here!"

Shao Minzhi was making the last soup when she heard her son's noise. Without turning around, she spoke directly.

Chen Feng was taken aback. People often came to visit, but he had never heard his mother say anything like that. Who was it? Curious, he led his younger sister into the house.

Upon entering the east room, they found Sheng Xiping, Zhou Qinglan, and Sheng Xi'an all sitting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

"Oh my, Uncle, Aunt, Second Uncle, what brings you here?" Chen Feng was overjoyed and rushed over to hug Sheng Xiping.

"Yue'er, come here quickly. This is the Uncle Sheng I was talking about, and this is Auntie." Chen Feng turned around and quickly called Chen Yue over to greet them.

Eight-year-old Chen Yue is no longer the emaciated girl she was when she was in Lijiawa Brigade.

Now that Chen Ruiqing has returned to the city, his salary and benefits have improved significantly, and his family's financial situation has also improved a lot. As a result, Shao Minzhi no longer goes out to work and focuses on taking care of her two children at home.

Little Chen Yue has also grown up with a rosy complexion and has grown taller. Her chubby little face is quite adorable.

"Uncle Sheng, Auntie." Back then, Sheng Xiping went to Lijiawa, took Chen Yue to the hospital for treatment, and took Chen Feng away with him.

Chen Yue was only five years old at the time and couldn't remember anything. Now, when she sees Sheng Xiping again, she can't recall ever having met him before.

Chen Yue had some recollection of her brother because he constantly talked about Qianchuan Forest Farm, his uncles, aunts, grandparents, and so on.

Upon hearing her brother's words, little Chen Yue obediently stepped forward and said, "Hello, Uncle Sheng. Hello, Aunt Sheng."

"Oh, oh, good. This must be little Chen Yue, right? Your brother used to always talk about you. Come on, let your auntie take a look."

Zhou Qinglan had two sons and had always wanted a daughter. She was extremely fond of girls and immediately called Chen Yue to her side, taking Chen Yue's hand and looking her over.
