Chapter 378 Resumption of the College Entrance Examination

The remaining venison can be used to cook a few dishes during the day, and some can be left for Zhou Qinglan to nourish her body.

Sheng Xiping was tending to the two deer, while Zhang Shuzhen got up to prepare the meal.

Breakfast is simple: some corn porridge, two hot flatbreads, and leftover vegetables from last night.

Zhang Shuzhen just wanted to prepare some food for Zhou Qinglan separately. Even though she had already finished her postpartum confinement, she still took great care of her daughter-in-law's diet and couldn't let her down.

So Zhang Shuzhen used a small aluminum double-handled pot to cook millet porridge separately for Zhou Qinglan, cooking it for a longer time so that a layer of rice oil would form on top.

Also, boil two more eggs in the pot. After the postpartum period, you shouldn't eat so many eggs; two a day is enough.

There was movement in the outer room, and Wang Chunxiu woke up. She wanted to come out and help Zhang Shuzhen with the chores, but at that moment Sheng Xinyu woke up and started crying before he even opened his eyes.

When Wang Chunxiu saw this, she quickly opened her grandson's swaddle blanket to check, and sure enough, the diaper was wet with urine.

So she quickly changed the baby's diaper, fed the baby, and burped the baby. By the time she finished all that, Zhang Shuzhen had almost finished cooking the meal.

"Mother-in-law, let's eat. Girl, should I bring your food to this room, or would you like to eat in the east room with me?"

Zhang Shuzhen pushed open the door to the west room, peeked in, and asked a question.

Zhou Qinglan glanced at Sheng Xinyu, who had just finished drinking milk and was staring blankly at something, and said, "Mom, I'll eat in this room."

The second child has been a bit fussy lately, crying if she can't see him for even a moment. Zhou Qinglan was worried that if she went to the east room to eat, the little guy would cry and fuss, so she simply let him eat in the west room.

"Okay, I'll bring it over to you."

Zhang Shuzhen nodded and went back to the kitchen. She prepared millet porridge, eggs, half a pancake, and vegetables, and brought them to the west room.

"My dear in-law, you go eat. I'll stay here and watch over Xinyu for a while. I'll go eat after Qinglan finishes."

Wang Chunxiu was a guest, and there was no reason to let a guest eat late, so Zhang Shuzhen told Wang Chunxiu to go eat while she stayed to look after the baby.

Wang Chunxiu had to defer to Zhang Shuzhen, who cheerfully pushed her to the east room for dinner.

As soon as they returned to the west room, Sheng Xinyu started crying again. Zhang Shuzhen quickly picked up the child and gently patted and comforted him.

A short while later, the baby stopped crying, yawned, closed his eyes, and fell asleep again.

With her mother-in-law helping to soothe the child, Zhou Qinglan ate breakfast in peace. Then, while the child was asleep, she quickly combed her hair, changed her clothes, and tidied herself up.

After breakfast, the family got busy preparing for today's full moon celebration.

All the students in the Sheng family took the day off to help out at home.

The Sheng family was well-liked in the forest farm, and many people came to offer their congratulations.

Fortunately, the Sheng family was well-prepared, setting up five or six tables.

With Sheng Xiping bringing back all that meat, the banquet was sure to be excellent. Most of the ten dishes were hearty and substantial, and the guests who came to offer their congratulations were full of praise.

It was a rare occasion for everyone to get together, so they drank, played drinking games, and chatted casually.

While we were drinking, someone suddenly came running in. "Secretary Wang, Director Zheng, the bureau called and said there's something important to tell you."

Wang Jiachuan and Zheng Xianyong were both stunned, not knowing what was going on, so they quickly put on their shoes, got out of bed, put on their coats, and headed towards the farm headquarters.

Sheng Liancheng and Sheng Xiping followed them out. "Uncle Wang, we haven't finished eating yet. Come back and continue drinking later."

Wang Jiachuan waved his hand and hurriedly left with Zheng Xianyong.

Sheng Liancheng and Sheng Xiping turned and walked into the house. As they walked, Sheng Liancheng was still puzzled. "What's so important that the bureau called specifically for this?"

"I don't know," Sheng Xiping shook his head; he wasn't sure either.

There were still guests at home, so the father and son quickly went back inside to have dinner with them.

After a while, Wang Jiachuan and Zheng Xianyong returned to the Sheng family. Sheng Xiping glanced at them and saw that both of them had smiles on their faces.

"Uncle, sit down and eat. Everyone's been waiting for you two to come back, and hasn't had much to drink."

Wang Jiachuan and Zheng Xianyong sat back down on the kang (a heated brick bed), picked up their wine glasses, and then spoke.

"Hey everyone, I have some good news to share. The bureau just called and said that the higher-ups have issued an order to reinstate the college entrance examination this year."

Everyone in the room was stunned for a moment. Apart from a few young people, the rest of them didn't quite understand what Wang Jiachuan was talking about.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Mingyuan slammed his hand on the table in excitement and almost stood up from the kang (a heated brick bed).

"Oh, this day has finally come! Qinglan, did you hear that? The college entrance examination is going to be reinstated."

Sheng Xiping was also a little stunned. He had always known that the college entrance examination would be reinstated this year, but he really didn't know the exact date.

After all, he was inside at the time. When he came out, because of Sheng Xi'an's matter, the college entrance examination was also a taboo topic in the family, so Sheng Xiping did not know the exact day the news would be announced.

Sheng Xiping bought a radio for this very reason.

He was worried that the remoteness of the forest farm and the lack of information would delay Sheng Xi'an and the others from registering.

But they forgot that such a big matter concerns the future fate of countless educated youth, and the whole country is paying attention to it. How could the bureau not convey it as soon as possible?

In fact, back in September, when the Ministry of Education convened the National Conference on College Admissions in the capital, it had already decided to reinstate the National College Admissions Examination, which had been suspended for ten years.

On October 21st, the People's Daily published the news of the resumption of the college entrance examination on its front page, and major media outlets reprinted it.

Upon receiving the news, the Provincial Forestry Department immediately notified its subordinate forestry bureaus, which in turn immediately notified their respective forest farms.

"Uncle Wang, is the college entrance examination really going to be reinstated? What are the eligibility requirements? When can we register?" Sheng Xiping asked excitedly.
