Sheng Lianjie's original intention was to get in touch with Sheng Xiping and ask him to help him find out what things in his hometown could make money.
Relying on others for help can only provide temporary relief; you need to have the ability to earn money yourself to sustain yourself for a lifetime.
Sheng Lianjie was, after all, the commune secretary. After all these years of work, doesn't he understand this simple principle?
The two brothers chatted for half the night, and I don't know when they finally fell asleep.
The next morning, after everyone got up and had breakfast, the Wu and Feng families packed their things to leave.
The Sheng family quickly brought along all the local specialties they had prepared beforehand.
"Go back to your studies, work hard, and get along well with your wife."
Once you're married, you're an adult. You need to be thoughtful and proactive.
On weekends, if your in-laws have any chores, go over and help out; don't just sit there staring blankly, doing nothing but eating.
Before leaving, Sheng Liancheng did not forget to give his two sons some instructions.
"Okay, Dad, don't worry, we'll live a good life," Sheng Xi'an and Sheng Xikang said in unison.
"Shuyan, Yuhua, oh dear, you've only been back for a few days, and we women haven't had enough time to enjoy it yet."
Zhang Shuzhen held her two daughters-in-law's hands, also feeling very reluctant to part with them.
"When you get back, remember to write or call if anything happens."
You two have just gotten married, so there must be a lot of things to work out, and some bumps along the way are inevitable in your lives.
If my brat makes you angry, just call me and I'll back you up. I'll give them a piece of my mind.
At this point, both Feng Shuyan and Wu Yuhua laughed.
"Oh, thank you, Mom. Don't worry, Mom, we'll get along well. We'll come home together for the New Year."
"Okay, okay, I'll make sauerkraut dumplings for you then," Zhang Shuzhen nodded with a smile.
"This is a resettlement allowance from your father and me, five hundred yuan each."
You've just started your family and have nothing. If we lived nearby, I should have bought you rice and flour.
"Since you're far away, I'll give you some money. Go back and buy yourself some firewood, rice, oil, and salt, and live a good life."
Zhang Shuzhen took out two rather thick red envelopes and stuffed them into Feng Shuyan and Wu Yuhua's hands.
When Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qinglan got married, they didn't move out to live separately, so their families didn't give them any settling-in allowance.
The second and third brothers are not around, especially Sheng Xi'an, who is still studying. Although graduate students receive subsidies, that little bit of money is not enough to cover his expenses.
So Zhang Shuzhen and Sheng Liancheng discussed giving each of their two sons' families 500 yuan as a resettlement allowance.
"No, no, Mom, we can't accept this money."
Look, when we got married, our families prepared a house, furniture, and appliances for us. They even gave us a large dowry and three gold pieces. The expenses were quite high.
We've all started working and have salaries, so we don't need our families to give us a settling-in allowance anymore.
Upon hearing this, Feng Shuyan and Wu Yuhua quickly waved their hands, saying they would never accept the money.
"Look, you're being so polite with me. Your family has just started out, and you need money for everything."
Keep this money. If you don't need it right now, save it. When you have children and expenses increase, having some savings will make life easier.
Listen to me, take it. If you don't, it means you look down on this old woman from the ditch.
Zhang Shuzhen didn't care about any of that and insisted on stuffing the money into her two daughters-in-law's pockets.
Seeing this, Feng Shuyan and Wu Yuhua had no choice but to accept the money.
"Thank you, Mom. We are so lucky to have a mother-in-law like you. If anyone looks down on you, we'll settle the score with them."
The two new brides, one on each side, put their arms around Zhang Shuzhen's shoulders and laughed.
Sheng Yunfang and Sheng Yunfei both took leave to come back. It's almost the end of the semester, and they can't stay at home any longer, so they have to leave today.
After instructing her daughter-in-law, Zhang Shuzhen also gave her daughter a few more instructions.
It was getting late, and the train wouldn't wait for anyone, so Sheng Xiping, Chen Ruiqing, and the forestry bureau's driver drove everyone to the train station.
Sheng Xiping had bought the tickets in advance and watched everyone board the train before leaving.
The Feng family and Sheng Xi'an will get off at Hunjiang, then take a bus to Changchun, and then transfer back to Harbin.
The Wu family, Sheng Xikang, and the Sheng Yunfang and Sheng Yunfei sisters traveled together to Shenyang by car. Then Wu Yucheng and Sheng Yunfei flew back to Guangzhou, while Sheng Yunfang flew back to Shanghai.
Wu Yucheng had already arranged for someone to book the plane tickets and everything else.
The others took a train from Shenyang back to the capital.
"Brother, now that you've almost finished with things here, I'll pick up your sister-in-law and the others, and then we'll head back."
You focus on building the factory first. We'll get together again when we have some free time.
After seeing off the guests from her family, Chen Ruiqing and Sheng Xiping walked side by side out of the train station, with Chen Ruiqing talking as they walked.
"Brother, are you leaving in such a hurry? Oh dear, I've been so busy these past few days that we haven't even had a chance to sit down and chat properly."
Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping naturally tried to persuade him to stay. "Why don't you stay for a couple more days? Let's go out for a drink tonight, brother. I still have a lot to say to you."
"No, I'm quite busy with work. On my way back, I also need to take care of some things in Hunjiang and Tonghua."
Furthermore, Xiaofeng and Yue'er haven't started their summer vacation yet, and with the end of the semester fast approaching, they can't afford to fall behind on their studies too much.
"Let's get together sometime next time, whenever we're free, brothers." Chen Ruiqing smiled, patted Sheng Xiping on the shoulder, and the two left the station and drove home separately.
Back at the hotel, Chen Ruiqing picked up Shao Minzhi, Chen Feng, and Chen Yue.
