If you don't want any of them, isn't there a deer farm at Xianrenqiao? I remember they raise black bears there.
Alternatively, you could contact the provincial zoo, or even Yuhuang Mountain in Tonghua.
Sheng Xiping shook his head. He wasn't going to cause trouble for himself. This thing had a huge appetite and ate a lot; he couldn't afford to raise it.
Wang Jiachuan thought it was a good idea, so he immediately sent someone to fetch Lao Hu from the family team.
Meanwhile, Sheng Xiping and the others quickly skinned and processed the bear, then cut it into pieces.
Bear meat in early spring is not as fatty as in autumn, and there is less meat yield. Even so, two bears can still yield quite a lot.
A few portions were set aside for Wang Jiachuan, Zheng Xianyong, and Li Zhenggang. The rest of the meat would be enough for the people who came up the mountain today, about twenty or thirty jin (about 30 kg), which would be quite good.
As for the bear skin, bear paws, bear nose, bear bellies, and the like, Sheng Xiping didn't want them; the others could discuss how to divide them.
Everyone was exhausted, so after dividing the meat, they each took their share and said goodbye to go home.
The family members' team was also busy at this time; Old Hu was leading a few people to tidy up the back area.
When he learned that Wang Jiachuan was calling him, and it was getting late, Lao Hu told everyone to call it a day and he hurried off to the farm headquarters.
When they arrived at the farm headquarters, they found Wang Jiachuan in the yard, playing with a little black dog.
Hu was quite puzzled. When did the farm headquarters start keeping dogs? "Secretary, did you need something from me?"
"Old Hu's here? Hey, did you see what this thing is?" Wang Jiachuan pointed to the black ball of fur on the ground and asked Old Hu.
Old Hu was about to say, "Isn't that a dog?" But upon closer inspection, he realized something was off; puppies don't look like that.
"Oh dear, it's a little bear cub! Secretary, did Xiping and the others bring it back?"
Having worked in the forest for so many years, I've never seen a bear cub, but I've seen adult bears a few times.
Old Hu heard about the incident where a student in the forest farm was injured by a bear. This morning, when Sheng Xiping and his friends went into the mountains, they happened to run into Old Hu and even greeted him.
So Lao Hu immediately guessed that this must be what Sheng Xiping and his group brought back.
"Yeah, Xiping and the others killed two big bears and brought back a bear cub. This thing is too small, so we can't kill it."
I was thinking of asking you, doesn't the family team have a livestock farm? How about we let you raise them?"
Wang Jiachuan talked while playing with the little bear cub.
Wild animals are naturally wild, and most of them will not be very friendly when they first come into contact with humans.
Of course, this little guy almost lost his life to a male bear today and was quite frightened. He hasn't recovered yet and is curled up in a ball, trembling.
So no matter how much Wang Jiachuan rubbed it, it didn't dare to raise its claws to scratch people.
"Oh dear, Secretary, we dare not raise these things."
When it's a puppy, it's manageable, but once it grows up, who can handle it? One swipe of its paw and no one can withstand it.
Upon hearing this, Lao Hu shook his head vigorously, like a rattle drum.
"If you don't want it, what are we going to do with this thing? It's definitely doomed if we throw it into the mountains."
Wang Jiachuan sighed. This little thing had become a hot potato, and no one wanted to take it on.
"How about this, you take it to rest for a few days first, and I'll contact the bureau and ask someone."
"See if the provincial zoo wants it. If not, we'll send it to the zoo." "If neither of them wants it, then there's nothing we can do but send it away."
Old Hu thought about it and had no other choice. "Alright then, I'll get it over there first and find a cage or something to keep it in for a few days."
"Secretary, you should ask about this as soon as possible. We really dare not keep this thing; we're afraid it might hurt someone."
Since Wang Jiachuan was willing to speak up, Lao Hu couldn't refuse him at all, so he had to compromise: the family team would be supported for the time being, and Wang Jiachuan would hurry up and find a solution.
And so, Old Hu took the bear cub away and sent it to the breeding farm.
There happened to be a few wooden cages over there, so they put the bear cubs in the cages.
Old Hu didn't know if the bear cub had been weaned, so he asked the farm workers to squeeze some goat milk to feed it.
The little bear hadn't eaten for most of the day and was very hungry. A bowl of goat milk was given to it, and it drank it all up in no time.
Old Hu took one look and thought, "Not bad, this thing should be able to survive."
So he instructed the people at the breeding farm to take good care of the bear cubs and not let them die. He told them that once they found out what was going on at the farm in a few days, they would send the cubs away.
On the other side, Zhang Shuzhen, who had been on tenterhooks all day, was finally relieved to see her son return safely.
"Hey, here's the meat we brought back. How's it going? Did you manage to kill the bear?"
Zhang Shuzhen took the meat, and the mother and daughter walked into the house while asking questions.
"Yeah, we caught two black bears today, a male and a female, and also caught a bear cub. We put it at the farm headquarters, and I didn't bring it back."
Sheng Xiping entered the house, hung the gun on the wall, then untied his leg wraps and briefly recounted his experience of going into the mountains that day.
"Big brother, where's the bear cub? Why didn't you bring it back?"
Upon hearing this, Sheng Xitai, who was doing his homework while lying on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), was so excited that he almost jumped up. He forgot about his homework and hurriedly asked.
Beside him, Chen Feng also stopped writing and looked at Sheng Xiping with anticipation.
Ever since Hua Hua left the Sheng family and hasn't come back much, the children in the family have felt quite bored.
It would be great if there was another bear cub; then they'd have something to play with.
"Why bring it back? That thing eats a ton of food. We don't farm, where are we going to get that much grain to feed it?"
That thing is different from a tiger. Our dogs would tear it apart if they got the chance, wouldn't they?
Bears don't have an innate bloodline advantage over dogs. If Sheng Xiping really brings the bear cubs home, there will never be peace in this house.
