Chapter 105 Making Dumplings for Mid-Autumn Festival

Chapter 106 Making Dumplings for Mid-Autumn Festival

A bomb is useless to others, but it is an absolute weapon for hunters.

When Wang Jianshe said that, everyone knew what was going on and glanced at the dormitory next door.

"Brother Xiping, come on, we'll go with you to ask."

These people are so damn inconsiderate. If they want something, they just ask for it. What are you going to do if they don't give it to them?

Taking it so quietly, isn't that the act of thief?

The crowd was indignant and insisted on going next door to find those people and get to the bottom of it.

Sheng Xiping waved his hand, "No need, as long as some idiot doesn't take it to play with."

I'm worried that someone might use it to blow up their own hand.

This thing needs to be coated with lard and tied up within the range of a black bear or wild boar.

The bear or wild boar, attracted by the aroma of the lard, would surely want to eat it. But upon biting into it, the explosives inside, rubbing against the shards of porcelain, would detonate, blowing open the bear's or boar's snout.

Perhaps because he was angry about losing something, Sheng Xiping spoke a little loudly.

"Look, this morning I specially asked the head chef at the canteen for some mutton fat, thinking of coating the fried dough sticks with it and going to the other side of the earthen hill to deal with the black bears."

Well, that's great, the bomb's gone. Let's try another one later.

I just don't know if the bear from the other side of the earthen hill is still there.

Sheng Xiping shook his head and sighed as he spoke. The bomb was lost, a golden opportunity was missed, and the bear might be gone now.

Upon seeing this, Wang Jianshe and the others quickly persuaded Sheng Xiping, and the group escorted Sheng Xiping back into the house.

Meanwhile, several furtive figures quickly ran away.

Sheng Xiping was in a bad mood after losing the bomb and originally wanted to go back to his room for a nap.

As a result, Sheng Xi'an and Sheng Xikang came to him, saying that the school required each person to hand in ten catties of jujubes, and they hadn't picked enough yet.

The area around the forest farm had already been completely looted, so they decided to walk further away and asked Sheng Xiping if he had time to accompany them.

Of course we need to have that.

And so, Sheng Xiping and the others changed into their mountain clothes, carried baskets on their backs, and led their younger siblings into the mountains to pick wild berries and collect pine cones.

These people all grew up in the forest farm, so they knew everything about it.

Once inside the woods, they specifically sought out areas with many oak trees. Sheng Xi'an, Sheng Xikang, and the others stayed behind to collect pine cones, while Sheng Xiping and the others went to a nearby place to climb trees and collect pine cones.

By the end of the day, the younger siblings from each family had collected a lot of pine cones, and Sheng Xiping and his family had also collected several sacks of pine cones.

In the evening, Sheng Xiping carried sacks filled with pine cones to take his younger siblings home.

Upon seeing her eldest son, Zhang Shuzhen quickly asked how he was doing living in the collective household and whether he had any conflicts with others.

Hearing Sheng Xiping say that everything was fine, Zhang Shuzhen was finally relieved.

"By the way, tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival, and we're making dumplings at home. Remember to bring Qinglan back for dumplings tonight."

Seeing her son about to leave, Zhang Shuzhen hurriedly gave him some instructions.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the August Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival.

The May Festival is also known as the Dragon Boat Festival. That's what most locals call it.

This year, September 30th falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, which happens to be right next to National Day.

The company gave everyone a holiday and provided them with holiday benefits, including two pounds of meat for each employee.

At the same time, the forest farm store also received a batch of mooncakes, which could be purchased by each person with a grain card, with each person allowed to buy half a jin (250 grams).

Zhang Shuzhen discussed with Sheng Liancheng that since it was a holiday and they were giving out perks, they might as well make dumplings.

It would be perfect to call Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qinglan back so the whole family could have a lively and joyful dumpling meal together.

"Okay, then let's come back early tomorrow and make dumplings together."

Sheng Xiping nodded upon hearing this, chatted with his parents for a while, and then returned to his collective household.

The next morning, Sheng Xiping still led people into the mountains to collect pine nuts. He returned home early in the afternoon to help his family make dumplings.

Because of the leap month in April this year, the Mid-Autumn Festival is much later than usual. Cabbage is in season, so my family made dumplings with cabbage and pork filling.

Sheng Xiping rolled out the dough, Zhang Shuzhen and Zhou Qinglan made the dumplings, and Sheng Yunfang and Sheng Yunfei helped by pressing the dough into portions and picking up the dumplings.

Sheng Xi'an and Sheng Xikang were outside chopping firewood and boiling water.

Anyway, everyone in the family has something to do, so although they are busy, they are very happy.

With a large family, making too few dumplings wouldn't be enough, so we ended up making three large trays of dumplings.

Once the water in the pot boiled, Zhang Shuzhen went to cook the dumplings, while Zhou Qinglan helped out.

Sheng Xitai was craving pine nuts and insisted on eating them.

But there were dumplings cooking in the pot in the east room, so they couldn't burn the pine cones. So the group made a small fire in the yard and burned about ten pine cones.

Pine cones contain abundant pine resin, which is very flammable. If you're not careful, you can burn the pine nuts inside.

Sheng Xiping watched the fire, and when he felt it was about time, he pushed the burned pine cones aside, stood them up, and kicked them.

A thoroughly roasted pine cone becomes loose, so you can just kick it flat and some of the pine nuts inside will fly out. Then you can just dig out the rest one by one.

Sheng Xiping only needed to kick, while the task of picking pine nuts was handled by the Sheng Xitai and Sheng Yunfang sisters.

Anyway, kids love doing this the most; they peel it while putting it in their mouths.

I don't care if it's dirty or clean, as long as it's edible.

Fresh pine nuts have a sweet taste, especially those roasted over a fire, which are sweet and fragrant, and taste much better than dried and roasted ones.

Sheng Xitai peeled a pine nut and put it in his mouth.

The pine cones were all blackened from the heat, leaving his hands covered in soot, but he didn't care. His mouth was covered in soot, and his little face looked like a smeared cat.
