Sheng Xiping works in the security department. Borrowing a gun and bullets would be just a matter of course, wouldn't it?
Li Zhenggang had received countless benefits from Sheng Xiping, so naturally he wouldn't cause any trouble with this.
So they picked out the two best guns and gave Sheng Xiping and the others four packs of bullets.
"Is this enough? If not, I'll get you some more," Li Zhenggang asked as he handed the bullets to Sheng Xiping.
"That's enough, brother." Sheng Xiping had brought two packs of bullets, and Li Zhenggang gave him four more.
This pack of bullets has twenty-five rounds. What are you going to do with that? You need a hundred and fifty bullets.
"Okay, just tell me if you need more, I have plenty. I can't guarantee anything else, but I'll make sure you have enough guns and bullets."
Feeding someone makes a difference; Li Zhenggang's treatment of Sheng Xiping is absolutely impeccable.
"Thanks, bro. If you need anything later, I'll save some good stuff for you." The guy was generous, and Sheng Xiping was just as kind.
The Sheng family originally had a No. 16 gun, which Gao Haining carried on his back. The remaining three No. 5 and No. 6 guns were carried by Sheng Xiping, Chen Weiguo, and Wang Jianshe.
Zhang Zhijun, Pan Fusheng, and Sheng Xi'an carried some of the things they would need to go into the mountains.
No one knows what they might encounter on the mountain, so it's essential to bring everything you need. What if you have to camp out in the mountains tonight? You can't be completely unprepared, can you?
And so, the seven men, leading six dogs and carrying a lot of things, left the forest farm and headed east.
Sheng Xiping works two consecutive days of day shifts before he can take a night shift.
During the day shift, they would at most set traps around the forest farm, in nearby areas, and rarely bring dogs up the mountain.
The dogs hadn't been to the mountains for over ten days, and they were all incredibly excited to come out of their homes, running around as soon as they left the forest.
"Xiping, where are we going today?" Wang Jianshe asked casually, leading the leopard that had just finished urinating under the tree roots.
“Let’s head east and see what we find. If we don’t find anything, we’ll head towards Nuanquanzi. There’s more prey there,” Sheng Xiping said without even thinking.
Near Nuanquanzi is the place where Sheng Xiping and his group encountered the tiger, and that's where Huahua was found.
Because of the hot springs, there is a lot of game in the area, including roe deer, deer, and musk deer.
It's just a bit far from the forest farm, and usually no one accompanies Sheng Xiping, so he can't go too far alone.
There are six or seven of them today, so let's go take a look; maybe we can find something.
"There shouldn't be any more tigers over there, right?" Gao Haining couldn't help but mutter.
"You think tigers are like wild boars, roaming the mountains? You think we'll run into one every time we go over there? Impossible."
Wang Jianshe laughed when he heard this. Where are there so many tigers these days?
Each tiger has a fixed territory, and within a radius of several dozen miles around the forest farm, there should only be one tiger named Huahua.
Even during the breeding season, male tigers cannot easily enter the territory without the mother tiger's permission.
"Hey? Xiping, how old is your Huahua? Is she even three?" Wang Jianshe couldn't quite remember, so he asked Sheng Xiping.
"No, it's only two years old."
Hua Hua was found by Sheng Xiping and a few others in a cave near Nuanquanzi in the summer of 1975. It's only February of 1977 now, less than two years ago.
"Oh, then that's all right. Let's go."
Female tigers under three years old are not yet of breeding age and will not lure male tigers into their territory, so they can go to Nuanquanzi with peace of mind.
And so, the group walked north along the old forest road on the east side of the forest farm for a while, and then turned east.
After walking about three or four miles, Erlang Shen twitched his nose, apparently smelling something, and began to howl loudly towards the east.
When Erlang Shen called out, the leopard and Zhaocai barked in response, and the other dogs also became unusually excited.
"Let the dog go!" Erlang Shen shouted, indicating that it had spotted its prey. Judging from its behavior, it must be a new target.
So, Sheng Xiping shouted and took the lead in untying Erlang Shen's ropes.
As soon as the rope was loosened, Erlang Shen immediately darted out, with the other dogs following behind, barking as they ran eastward.
"Let's go, let's follow them and see." Sheng Xiping led the group and quickly followed.
After walking a short distance, Sheng Xiping noticed a lot of messy footprints on the ground. He went over to examine them and even touched the footprints in the snow.
"A group of wild boars must have gone by this afternoon. It looked like there were about ten of them. Each of them weighed about 500 or 600 pounds. There were also at least three sows."
It snowed heavily the day before yesterday, and a little light snow fell last night. The footprints on the ground were covered with a thin layer of snow, which clearly indicated that someone had passed through here before last night.
The size of the pig herd, including the number of boars and sows, can also be determined by the size of the hoof prints on the ground.
"Come on, let's hurry up and follow them. If we can get it done today, we might be able to catch a few pigs to take back for the New Year."
After examining the footprints on the ground, Sheng Xiping had a clear idea of what was going on. He then led Chen Weiguo and the others to follow the footprints.
And so, six dogs ran ahead, barking as they went, while Sheng Xiping and the others followed behind.
Sheng Xiping and the others walked three or four miles ahead when they heard a continuous barking of dogs. Needless to say, the dogs must have encountered prey.
"Let's go, let's go take a look."
Meanwhile, two or three miles away from Sheng Xiping and his group, on a sunny, sheltered hillside, Erlang Shen, along with his leopards, was charging towards the herd of pigs running ahead.
The group consisted of about ten pigs, led by a large, fast-growing pig that weighed about five or six hundred pounds. Its hooves were about the size of a cow's, and its body was like a small mountain.
