Chapter 441 Xuan Yang Blood

Old Wu stared wide-eyed at Sheng Xikang, scrutinizing him carefully. Then, with great effort, he raised his left hand, touched the top of Sheng Xikang's head, and patted it.

"Hmm, hmm, good, good boy." The old man nodded, seemingly quite satisfied with Sheng Xikang.

"Stay, stay for dinner," Old Wu said, looking up at his eldest daughter-in-law.

"Okay, Dad. I already said I wanted them to stay for a simple meal."

"Dad, don't worry, we'll take good care of Xiao Sheng." Yu Wenlan nodded repeatedly in response.

The old man seemed quite satisfied, nodded, and then had someone push him back to his room to rest.

Originally, the Sheng brothers were going to say goodbye and leave, but since Old Master Wu spoke up, they couldn't refuse anymore and had no choice but to stay.

It was still early for lunch, so everyone sat down and continued chatting.

"Uncle Wu, I'd like to ask, how long has this condition lasted?" Sheng Xiping asked seemingly casually.

"Oh, don't even mention it. My father fought in wars when he was young, which left him with a lot of health problems. He's been recuperating all these years."

I suffered a stroke suddenly before the Lunar New Year. Fortunately, I received timely treatment and survived. However, half of my body is no longer functional, my mouth is slightly crooked, and my speech is slurred.

The whole family couldn't help but sigh when the old man's illness was mentioned.

"If that's the case, Old Wu's illness hasn't lasted long. If we find the right method, he should be able to be cured," Sheng Xiping said tentatively.

Wu Bingyi smiled bitterly upon hearing this, "The hospital has tried many methods, such as acupuncture and rehabilitation training, and the patient has been taking medication, but there has been no effect."

The main problem is his advanced age and declining physical function; with current medical conditions, he can only be slowly cared for.

Sheng Xiping nodded. Someone of Wu Lao's status would definitely have the best doctors treating him.

If these people can't do anything about it, then this problem is really hard to cure.

"What about folk remedies? Haven't you tried them?" Sheng Xiping continued to ask.

"Sigh, we've tried everything. Ever since Grandpa was discharged from the hospital, our whole family has been asking around for famous doctors and folk remedies, trying to find a way to cure him. But nothing has worked," Wu Bingyi sighed.

"An old doctor from Northeast China told us about something called 'suspended sheep blood'."

I heard it's an animal unique to the Changbai Mountain area. They say if we could find this thing, it might be useful.

But later we found out that this animal hadn't been seen since the late Qing Dynasty, so where could we get sheep's blood now?

As Wu Bingyi spoke, he shook his head. His father was a hero all his life, but he ended up like this in his old age. It was heartbreaking for his children.

As children, who wouldn't want their father to get better if there was even a glimmer of hope? But this prescription is too far-fetched; it's simply impossible.

“To be precise, it’s not called ‘hanging sheep’s blood,’ it should be called ‘Xuan Yang’ (a type of sheep blood).” Sheng Xiping’s heart skipped a beat, and the words slipped out almost subconsciously.

"Xuan Yang? What is Xuan Yang?" The Wu brothers stood up upon hearing this and asked in unison.

Sheng Xiping carefully recalled the stories he had heard from his teacher's wife.

"The yew is said to be an extinct animal from Changbai Mountain. It lived on cliffs and even climbed some trees."

It is said to resemble a goat, with relatively large horns.

Some say that the ram sleeps by hanging from its horns on a tree, hence the name "hanging ram," but others say that it's not the same thing at all.

The Compendium of Materia Medica records that "those with thin horns are called daylilies." The miraculous effects of the hanging sheep blood that people talk about should actually be the myocardial blood of the daylily.

The heart blood of the daylily is made into a dry powder, which is said to have a miraculous analgesic effect, several times more effective than the anesthetics and analgesics used in hospitals.

It is said that at the end of the Qing Dynasty, Liu Jianfeng, the border survey commissioner of Fengji, was ordered to survey Changbai Mountain.

While searching for the source of the Three Rivers, I fell off my horse and injured my lower back. I spent four days resting by the river, but the pain was so bad that I couldn't move.

With the guidance of local hunters, his men hunted a ram, roasted its blood into powder, and gave it to him to drink. Surprisingly, he recovered very quickly.

Afterwards, the hunter got Liu Jianfeng some tiger bone glue, and after taking it, he recovered and continued to explore Changbai Mountain.

This event was recorded in detail by Liu Jianfeng in "A Brief Account of Jianggang in Changbai Mountain", which is one of the few documentary records about the daylily.

Of course, there are many legends about sheep's blood.

It is said that when the old Khan was seriously injured, he was cured by drinking sheep's blood and was able to go back to the battlefield.

There's also a claim that General Zhang recovered from his serious injuries by drinking sheep's blood.

There are also stories that Empress Dowager Cixi wanted to find sheep blood, so she sent many people to Changbai Mountain, but to no avail.

There are all sorts of stories circulating, but very few people have actually seen a daylily or its blood.

"Comrade Xiao Sheng, how do you know all this? Is it really true that there is such a thing as 'sheep's blood'?" Wu Bingzhong asked excitedly, his face full of anticipation.

"I heard it from someone else."

In our Changbai Mountain region, there is a type of person called "Old Mountain Dog" or "Old Cave Dog." They are people who live deep in the mountains and forests, far from human habitation.

Most of these people are solitary and know how to hunt and fish, living a primitive life of hunting and fishing in the mountains.

"I heard it from someone by chance," Sheng Xiping said casually, his eyes flashing slightly.

"Oh, Xiping, could you help me find out where I can get some sheep blood?"

"If it were possible, we'd be happy to pay any price. As long as it can help the old man get better and stop him from suffering, we'll agree to any conditions."

Wu Bingzhong and Wu Bingyi were extremely excited. They took two steps forward, grabbed Sheng Xiping's hands, and said...
