Chapter 72 Dismantling the Frame Leads to Conflict

The next day, Sun Yunpeng and the others did attend the training course.

But when these people get to the classroom, they all squirm and fidget, like they have nails stuck to their butts. They can't sit still at all. How can you expect them to listen attentively?

"You should know that forestry production, especially logging, is a high-risk operation."

Every year, our forestry system experiences numerous work-related accidents, some of which have even cost people their lives.

This is not child's play; it must be taken seriously.

Technician Li, standing above, looked down at the people below, some slumped over and dozing off, others whispering amongst themselves, and he was so angry his nose almost twisted.

"I'm not trying to scare you, but safety education is something every forestry worker must constantly pay attention to."

You're all slacking off and not paying attention in class now. You'll regret it when something bad happens.

Everything that needs to be said has been said, but some people just won't listen. What else can be done?

After the safety training, Sheng Xiping and others, along with the rest of the work team, took a commuter bus pulled by an internal combustion engine to the lumber yard inside the third branch line in the morning to begin dismantling the lumber.

The log yard was located next to the railway branch line. The log stacks, which were dozens of meters high, were stacked with the log ends facing outwards, aligned with the direction of the log transport trolley.

The wire rope on the winch drum goes around the pulley at the top of the frame, and a loop is tied to the end of the rope. Two more ropes are then tied to the loop.

After the lumberjacks bundled the logs together, the car operator signaled to the driver, who then started the winch to load the logs onto the trolley via a ramp.

After the carpenter removed the hook, the timber bundler immediately pulled the rope back to its original position and continued binding the timber.

It sounds simple, but it's not easy at all in practice.

The car watchers and winch operators all had to be experienced and skilled. Most of Sheng Xiping and others were used to working as timber bundlers or loading workers.

They had to climb up the tall stack of logs, pry up the logs with small levers, and then tie the logs with steel wire ropes.

After the log is securely tied, a signal is given to the watchman, who then signals the driver before the log can be lifted.

The logs are pulled onto the transport trolley by a winch, the loading workers unload the steel wire rope, and then the logs are straightened.

Logs must be packed tightly, and should not be laid horizontally, crossed, or covered with wax. Also, pay attention to whether the load is uneven.

There are two stacks of corrugated iron that need to be dismantled. In order to complete the dismantling work as soon as possible, it is natural to divide the work into two small teams.

Most of the educated youth, including Sheng Xiping, had little experience, so they were scattered and worked with experienced veteran workers.

With experienced workers guiding them, these greenhorns are less likely to cause any accidents.

Coincidentally, Sheng Xiping was assigned to a small work team along with Sun Yunpeng, Du Jiabin, and others.

Sheng Xiping tied the logs to the stack, while Sun Yunpeng and the others loaded them onto the truck.

We had different roles and little interaction, so we ignored each other. Even when we were on the commuter bus, we kept our distance.

A log stack contains approximately 3,000 cubic meters of timber, and it is estimated that dismantling the stack will take more than ten days.

It rained on the 20th. After the rain, the bark of the logs absorbed the moisture and became extremely slippery when we went back to work.

When Sheng Xiping and the others went up to work, they were extremely careful, for fear that they might slip and fall off the stack of logs.

That day, Lao Xiao, the lathe operator, suddenly fell ill and didn't come to work.

The foreman then had Sheng Xiping come down from the stack and take over Lao Xiao's job.

Sheng Xiping had been working on the construction team for two or three years, so he was no problem with watching the vehicles. He then directed the winch to hoist the original bar.

Everything was fine at first, but as he was loading the cart, Sheng Xiping discovered that the original strips on the cart were not installed correctly; they were too heavy.

“Over there, readjust the wood. The cart is obviously too heavy now, the original wood on the left is too heavy.”

The truck watcher not only has to keep an eye on the winch lifting the logs, but also make sure the loading on this side is done correctly.

"Which eye of yours saw that it was too heavy?"

We've always loaded it normally; look how properly it's loaded, isn't it? I don't see any unevenness in its weight."

Sun Yunpeng worked on the same construction team as Sheng Xiping every day, but the two never spoke to each other.

Today, Sheng Xiping suddenly came over to inspect the vehicle and then said that the loading was incorrect and the load was too heavy.

In Sun Yunpeng's view, this was Sheng Xiping deliberately looking for trouble.

"Sheng Xiping, don't cause trouble."

You're just filling in for Lao Xiao, helping him watch the car. Stop acting like you have a mandate and giving orders.

"Are you loading the truck or are we loading it? We've been loading them for days, and this is how we've always done it."

Du Jiabin also looked unhappy, his small eyes fixed on Sheng Xiping as he angrily said.

"Damn, I've worked on the construction team for several years, and I've even done loading work. Don't I know more than you guys?"

The truck is overloaded; if we turn a corner on the way back, it might overturn.

"Quickly correct the original clause, otherwise, if something goes wrong, can you take responsibility?"

Sheng Xiping was angered by these two people.

If he hadn't come down to check the car today, he wouldn't have cared what these people did, and he wouldn't have been responsible if the car had overturned.

But right now he's in charge of loading the truck, so if anything goes wrong, he'll be the first person they'll contact.

Don't think that loading the truck is as simple as just putting the wood on.

Actually, there's a lot to learn about this, and one wrong move could lead to an accident.

In his previous life, after Sheng Xiping was released, he would work on the construction team with others during the winter.

At that time, the forest farm had been partially converted into a road transport hub, and most of the vehicles were contracted out to drivers.

Don't underestimate the low wages of loading workers; they make a lot of extra money on the side.

Every morning when the drivers arrive at the loading yard, they have to give the loaders a little something.

It might be a few packs of cigarettes, or some good food; he never comes empty-handed.
