Zhou Mingyuan remembered the last time Sheng Xiping wanted to invest in building a factory, and quickly waved his hand.
"They came here to shoot outdoor scenes, and the bureau arranged for someone to accompany them up the mountain to shoot."
"Hey bro, what's up? Do you have any veterans you need to settle down with?"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Qingyang's eyes widened. "Oh dear, that's right! You know, I was so focused on it that I completely forgot about you."
"Okay, I'll report this to my supervisor later. This can be done."
This was a case of unexpected good fortune; the brother-in-law and sister-in-law hit it off immediately and agreed that once Zhou Qingyang returned to his unit, they would find a way to contact the person.
When the daughter and son-in-law come back, I definitely have to cook something delicious.
Wang Chunxiu and her daughter-in-law spent the whole afternoon preparing a table full of delicious dishes. Zhou Mingyuan, along with his son and son-in-law, enjoyed a few drinks.
The next day, it will be Lunar New Year's Eve.
When Sheng Xiping returned from Heihe, he brought back nothing but some Russian specialties.
Fortunately, they had prepared a lot of things at home. Liu Yujiang sent over a deer and a roe deer, and when Sheng Xiyun sent apples over, he specially transported some frozen seafood and shrimp.
The two pigs that Sheng Liancheng caught in the spring were slaughtered at home a few days ago. When they came down from the forest farm, Liu Yujiang drove them there, and he also brought the pork down with him.
In addition to the supplies distributed by Zhou Qinglan's work unit and those she bought herself, she had prepared plenty of New Year's goods.
In recent years, the elders of the Sheng and Zhang families have passed away one after another. Sheng Liancheng and Zhang Shuzhen are both in mourning, so they still cannot put up couplets or hang red lanterns this year.
So after breakfast, Sheng Xiping pulled an electrical cord from inside the house, attached a light bulb, and hung it directly on the clothesline outside. That was it.
Sheng Xi'an and the others helped tidy up the yard, clearing away the snow, and then they chopped some firewood.
A few years ago, when Sheng Xiping and his wife first moved down, they had to transport firewood from the forest farm.
Later, when new houses were built, coal was used for heating, while firewood was used for cooking, so the amount of coal burned was reduced.
Once the processing plant opens, we can just use any scraps or leftover materials from the factory.
Some time ago, Zheng Hua specially loaded a large truckload of sawn planks down, so there was no need to worry about the fire.
The brothers worked together all morning, saving enough fuel for half a month, and piled it all up in the woodshed.
While the Sheng brothers were busy chopping firewood, Zhang Shuzhen led Zhou Qinglan, the Sheng Yunfang sisters, and Aunt Li to prepare a meal in the kitchen.
Sheng Xinze and Sheng Xinyao are still young and need constant care. Sheng Xinhua and Sheng Xinyu are two mischievous boys who are always playing. Xinyue and Xinqi are still young, so how can we take care of them?
Sheng Liancheng was free, but he couldn't possibly look after so many children all by himself.
So Feng Shuyan and Wu Yuhua did nothing but stay inside and take care of the baby.
Sheng Xiping was worried that the two little ones would be cold, so he got up early and lit the floor heating and boiler. The room was warm and cozy, and the two little ones, wearing sweaters and thin pants, were playing happily on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Sheng Xinze was a little older and could sit up, so he sat there by himself, holding a small rattle and shaking it.
Xinyao is two months younger and can't sit up yet, but she can already roll over. So she rolls around on the kang (a heated brick bed), sometimes lying down to watch her brother play, sometimes lying down to nibble on her toes.
Wu Yuhua and Feng Shuyan both follow the traditional methods of raising children, which is to avoid holding the baby as much as possible.
That's how kids are; once they develop bad habits, they're not easy to change.
Wu Yuhua and Feng Shuyan both have jobs and employ a nanny. But the nanny can't hold the child all day long, can she? What else can she do?
So the two sisters-in-law's principle in raising children is that if the little ones can play by themselves, they should play by themselves; if they can lie down, they shouldn't be allowed to get up and show off.
If the child cries, just comfort them; never indulge their bad habits.
The two daughters-in-law were inside coaxing the children, and Sheng Liancheng, the father-in-law, didn't want to stay in their presence, so he went outside and wandered around the front and back of the house.
He would look for work and lend a hand; if there was no work, he would stand at the gate and watch the two mischievous boys, Sheng Xinhua and Sheng Xinyu.
Ever since the Lunar New Year, these two kids have had a constant supply of firecrackers in their pockets, and they run outside to set them off whenever they have a spare moment.
Sheng Liancheng was worried about his grandsons, fearing that something might happen to them, so he simply kept a close eye on the two grandsons.
After everyone had been busy for a long time, around 3 p.m., all the food was ready. So they set up two tables and the reunion dinner began.
"Come on, everyone, raise your glasses and let's have a drink."
This year is the year our family is most complete. The second and third sons both brought their wives and children back. It's such a lively and joyful family gathering. Your mother and I are so happy.
We're getting old, and we don't ask for anything else, we just hope you can come back often for family reunions.
After everyone sat down, Sheng Liancheng picked up his wine glass and spoke first.
"I don't know what else to say, eldest, second, and third sons, I wish you all success in your careers, harmonious marriages, and happy families."
Fourth and fifth sons, you two have both graduated and are working now. Your parents don't have any other requirements, so it's time to think about your personal lives. Find someone you like and get married as soon as possible.
Sheng Liancheng was exceptionally happy today and talked much more than in previous years.
"Thank you, Dad. We will definitely listen to you and not let you worry," Sheng Xiping and the others replied with smiles, raising their glasses.
"Dad, what about me? Why aren't you talking about me?" Sheng Xitai was getting anxious. His father had sent blessings to his older brother and sister, but why hadn't he mentioned him?
"You, just focus on your studies," Sheng Liancheng said with a smile, glancing at his eldest son.
“You’re the youngest in our family, and your parents don’t have any expectations for you. Just study hard. If you can get into graduate school, then do it like your second brother. If you can’t, then work hard.”
