Chapter 182 The Leopard

Chapter 183 The Leopard

The Amur leopard, also known as the Far Eastern leopard, which lives in the Changbai Mountain area, is the second most powerful beast after the Siberian tiger.

The Amur leopard has a small head, a long tail, short and strong limbs, yellow fur, and its body is covered with black ring spots.

The spots on its head are small and dense, while the spots on its back are dense and large. The spots are round or oval plum blossom-shaped patterns, much like ancient copper coins, hence the name "golden leopard".

Of course, locally, the Northeast Leopard also has another name: the Earth Leopard.

The Amur leopard is generally about 1.2 meters long, with a tail of 1 meter, and weighs between 160 and 200 kilograms. Males are slightly larger than females.

In spring and summer, the Amur leopard is covered in a beautiful golden fur, which is about three centimeters long.

In winter, it grows thick, light gray fur that is nearly seven centimeters long, which helps it withstand the cold winter.

The Amur leopard has a well-proportioned and slender body, and its eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell are all highly developed.

It has a small, round head, short ears, and the back of the ears is usually black while the tips are yellow with sparse small black dots.

Their canines are sharp, and their carnassial teeth are also well-developed.

It is strong and agile, and because of its small weight, its jumping ability is even better than that of the Siberian tiger.

Leopards have incredible explosive power; they can drag prey twice their own weight up a tree.

When Sheng Xiping arrived, the reason why General Hei had not been carried away by the leopard was mainly due to Erlang Shen's interference.

After all, carrying a large black dog weighing around 90 pounds would affect a leopard's fighting ability, especially when facing a hunting dog that is poised to pounce. The leopard would have to be careful.

So after it bit the Black General, it made a whimpering sound at Erlang Shen, trying to scare him away and then take the Black General away.

Erlang Shen and the Black General grew up together; the two dogs have a very close relationship.

Although dogs are naturally afraid of large felines, Erlang Shen is no exception.

But his good friend was injured by the big cat in front of him, and no matter how scared Erlang Shen was, he refused to run away.

He stood his ground against the leopard for a long time, preventing the leopard from carrying away the Black General.

It was precisely because of Erlang Shen's delay that Sheng Xiping and his group arrived in time.

Upon seeing this situation, Sheng Xiping couldn't care less about anything else; saving the dog was the priority.

Hunting dogs are a hunter's most loyal companions and best partners. No matter how dangerous it is, a hunter must save a dog.

Without saying a word, Sheng Xiping pulled the trigger and shot the leopard.

The distance was a bit far, and the trees provided cover, so the shooting accuracy wasn't very high.

Besides, Black General was being carried by the leopard, so Sheng Xiping didn't dare to hit the leopard on the head, for fear of accidentally hurting Black General.

So the shot missed its vital spot, grazing the leopard's hindquarters and leaving a trail of blood.

As soon as the gunshot rang out, Leopard was wounded in the hindquarters. Knowing that things were going badly, he immediately released Black General, leaped into the air, and disappeared in a few bounds.

As soon as the leopard ran away, Erlang Shen rushed to the Black General and howled.

The Black General, who had been lying on the ground, struggled to his feet.

The others rushed over as well. Sheng Xiping threw the gun to Zhang Zhijun, grabbed Black General, and quickly checked its injuries.

Black General had several holes in his neck from the leopard's bite, which were still bleeding, but there were no other wounds elsewhere.

Sheng Xiping quickly took out tobacco and a leg strap, poured the tobacco on the Black General's wound, and wrapped the leg strap around the Black General's neck several times.

Black General was in fairly good spirits, but upon seeing its master, the dog became extremely aggrieved, leaning against Sheng Xiping and whimpering. It looked utterly pitiful.

"Xiping, what do we do now? Should we continue chasing?"

Several other men stood guard nearby with guns in hand, and Wang Jianshe casually asked a question.

"Let's stop chasing and go back."

The dog almost got eaten by the leopard, and General Black was already badly injured. How could Sheng Xiping bear to continue the chase with the dog? He might as well just go home.

As for those few jackals, they probably won't cause any trouble. He'll fight them if he encounters them, but if not, he won't care.

Everyone knows that Sheng Xiping loves dogs, and the pitiful appearance of that Black General is indeed heartbreaking.

So without saying anything, everyone turned around and started to walk back.

However, at this moment, Erlang Shen got angry. He turned around and ran in another direction, shouting as he ran.

Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping immediately whistled, trying to summon Erlang Shen back.

However, Erlang Shen ignored it completely and ran straight ahead for two or three hundred meters, calling out towards the bushes behind him.

Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping wondered what Erlang Shen had discovered this time. So he released the Black General and quickly chased after Erlang Shen.

Although General Black was injured, it wasn't too serious.

It was nearly bitten to death by a leopard, which hurt its pride and made it lose face, so it resorted to acting spoiled and unreasonable towards Sheng Xiping.

Seeing that Sheng Xiping had left, General Black also got up, shook his fur, and trotted after Sheng Xiping.

Sheng Xiping followed Erlang Shen to a clump of bushes, where he saw a dead jackal.

The jackal's right hind leg was broken; it looked like the one Sheng Xiping had injured earlier.

Logically speaking, a jackal with a broken leg would at most be lame, not dead.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the jackal's neck was broken, likely due to being snapped in two by some animal.

Combining this with the situation with the leopard earlier, Sheng Xiping immediately understood.

That leopard probably had some grudge against those jackals.

This morning, after the jackal pack was driven back by Sheng Xiping and his men, the jackal king was supposed to lead the remaining jackals to hide in the deep mountains and forests.
