Chapter Sixty-Four Wild Boar

Dinner was served a little earlier today; it was only six o'clock after dinner.

Sheng Xiping was going to see Yu Liangzi, and Zhou Qinglan, out of curiosity, insisted on going along.

So, taking advantage of the daylight, Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qinglan led their younger siblings to the riverbank.

He led his second and third brothers, Bie Yuliangzi, while Zhou Qinglan led Yun Fang, Yun Fei, and Sheng Xitai to play nearby.

"Huh? Isn't this called a crayfish?"

As soon as Sheng Xiping moved a stone, Zhou Qinglan noticed a bluish-brown thing crawling backwards under it.

Upon closer inspection, she realized she had seen this creature before; it seemed to be called a crayfish.

"Yes, there are a lot of crayfish in this river. If you like to eat them, you can catch some."

This stuff tastes pretty good when boiled with a little salt, but it's best made into crayfish tofu.

"When I'm less busy someday, I'll grab some and have my mom cook it for you to try. It's especially fresh and delicious."

Sheng Xiping glanced at it and confirmed that it was a crayfish, a famous river delicacy in Northeast China.

However, due to environmental factors, this creature almost became extinct in the wild.

Zhou Qinglan and the others just thought it was fun; they didn't actually plan to catch or eat it.

Besides, we didn't bring anything to carry them, so we couldn't just grab them and put them in our clothes, could we? So everyone just grabbed a few big ones to play with.

After Sheng Xiping and the others finished tying up Yu Liangzi, it got dark. The group had had their fun and it was time to return to the forest farm.

Sheng Xiping escorted Zhou Qinglan to the gate of the Tang family, where the two chatted intimately for a while.

Sheng Xiping only turned and left after someone from the Tang family came out.

Everyone was exhausted from working all day, and they all fell asleep as soon as they lay down at night.

The kang (heated brick bed) in both the east and west rooms was quite warm so that chicken and rabbit could be stewed.

They all slept sprawled out in the night, the blankets barely covering them, as they had all kicked themselves out and disappeared.

Early on the morning of the 13th, just as dawn was breaking, Sheng Xiping led his second and third sons out.

They had to go to the river to see if they had caught any fish, and then they had to go into the mountains to hunt for more.

I must say, Sheng Xiping's technique for dealing with Yu Liangzi is really good; he still reaped quite a lot this time.

Of course, it's also related to the fact that the environment wasn't damaged at that time, so there were plenty of fish in the river.

In a few years, as people use electric motors to catch fish and use chemical drugs in fishponds, the ecological environment of the river is damaged, and the number of fish will decrease.

The three brothers quickly took the fish home, then changed their shoes, put on their leg wraps, and took the dog out again.

Erlang Shen and the Black General were even more excited today after going out with them yesterday and ate meat. They ran ahead and easily found the place where they had set the trap yesterday.

Compared to yesterday's harvest, today was clearly less fortunate, with only a rabbit and a pheasant caught.

The wire snare that's already been used on the rabbit is unusable; the rest can just be put away.

Sheng Xiping had previously set three or four snares, but only one of them caught a roe deer; the rest remained unremoved.

That thing is quite dangerous; if someone accidentally steps on it, they might end up hanging in mid-air.

So Sheng Xiping planned to take his younger brother over to take a look. If they didn't manage to snag anything, they would quickly dismantle the rope and take it back.

When we got here, we found nothing of value.

Sheng Xi'an and Sheng Xikang were both quite disappointed. "Sigh, I thought we could catch another roe deer today."

"Dream on! What kind of luck is that? You'd be lucky to catch even one," Sheng Xiping laughed.

Those roe deer must have been scared away yesterday.

Don't think that roe deer are really that stupid. They won't dare to come to this forest again for quite some time.

"You guys move aside, I'll go take off all the condoms."

Since we can't catch any prey, let's just put the rope away to avoid accidentally injuring anyone else.

Sheng Xiping would tie a red cloth near each hanging leg as a marker.

This is to warn passersby that there is a trap ahead and they should not approach it to avoid accidental injury.

Leave a mark so it's easy for him to find it himself.

Since they hadn't caught any prey, they simply dismantled everything, coiling the rope up and throwing it into their bag, and also untied the red cloth strip.

Before the last trap could be untied, Erlang Shen suddenly cried out.

Then they heard Sheng Xi'an shouting, "Hey, hey, Erlang Shen, come back, don't run away!"

Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping quickly turned around and ran towards his two younger brothers, asking, "What happened?"

"I don't know."

I figured everything was fine, so I untied the ropes binding Erlang Shen and the Black General.

Who knew that as soon as the rope was untied, they both darted away!

Sheng Xi'an was also dumbfounded. He had just untied the rope when Erlang Shen darted out, shouting as he ran.

Erlang Shen is a dog; when it barks, General Hei runs away too.

Sheng Xiping was speechless for a moment. "Who told you to untie them? You're just making things worse."

I just came here this morning to run the snares around and retrieve any that didn't catch any prey.

The reason for bringing Erlang Shen and his companions along was just in case, not for hunting.

We're busy at home, how can we have time to run around the mountains hunting?

"Take this, I'll go after them." Sheng Xiping threw down the rope and other things, slung his gun over his shoulder, and gave chase.

Since Erlang Shen has spoken, he must have smelled the scent of some prey.

If it's an easy one to deal with, that's fine. But if it's a big black bear or a big runner, these two dogs won't be able to stay in their den at all, and they might even get hurt.

Sheng Xiping was anxious and couldn't help but speed up his run.

Ahead, Erlang Shen and General Hei crossed the hillside one after the other, descended to the bottom of the valley, and then ran towards the opposite hillside.
