Since we have plenty of meat at home, we simply chopped it all up and took it outside to feed the dog.
"Huahua, are you hungry? Come out and eat some meat." Sheng Xiping stood at the door of the east room and called to Huahua.
But Hua Hua completely ignored Sheng Xiping, still lying on the edge of the kang, wagging its tail tip, too lazy to even move.
"This lazy cat, you become this lazy as soon as you get home."
Sheng Xiping shook his head, put the meat in the bowl, and said he would feed Huahua whenever she wanted to eat.
The wolf and lynx pelts have been processed and temporarily sent to the warehouse to air dry.
After finishing all that, Sheng Xiping checked the time and realized it was getting late; he had to go to work.
"Mom, I'm going to work now. There's meat in the outer room. If Hua Hua gets hungry later, you can give her some meat to eat."
Sheng Xiping stood at the door of the east room and peeked out to speak to Zhang Shuzhen.
"Don't let Sheng Xinhua keep rubbing Hua Hua. That's a tiger, not our pet cat."
Zhang Shuzhen gestured for Sheng Xiping to be quiet and whispered, "Don't make a sound, your son is asleep."
"Huh? It's not even eight o'clock yet, are you already asleep?" Sheng Xiping looked at the side of the kang (a heated brick bed) in surprise.
Sure enough, her son lay down next to Huahua, eyes closed, motionless, asleep.
Why didn't he cause any trouble today?
Most children are fussy when they need to sleep, especially in the morning. After Zhou Qinglan went to work, Sheng Xinhua would always fuss for a while before he could fall asleep.
So when Sheng Xiping saw his son sleeping peacefully, he was quite surprised.
"He was probably woken up by Lao Liu and the others this morning. He got up early, and since he loves Hua Hua, he fell asleep next to her."
Seeing his son lying soundly asleep next to Huahua, Sheng Xiping couldn't help but smile.
"I never expected that flowers could also be used to lull babies to sleep."
"Huahua, you've worked hard. There's meat in the outer room; go eat if you get hungry. I'm going to work now, I'll come back to see you at noon."
Sheng Xiping waved to Huahua, put on his thick cotton-padded coat, and walked outside.
Hua Hua lay motionless on the kang (heated brick bed), only opening her eyes to look at Sheng Xiping and wagging her tail twice.
Anyone who didn't know better would really think it could understand Sheng Xiping's words.
It was getting late, and Sheng Xiping couldn't delay any longer. So he dressed, said goodbye to Zhang Shuzhen, and hurried out the door, heading straight for the farm headquarters.
The security department doesn't have much to do during the day. In the morning, they hand over duties at the headquarters, and then a few day shift members patrol around the forest farm twice to check for any abnormalities.
After that, you can go back to the office, drink tea, chat, and read the newspaper.
I finish get off work at 11:30 am, go home for lunch, come back to work at 1:30 pm, and finish get off work at 6 pm.
By the time Sheng Xiping got off work and returned home, it was already quite dark outside.
As soon as I entered the gate, I could hear laughter and cheerful voices from inside the house, especially Sheng Xitai's loud voice, which could be heard from outside.
On a normal day, when Sheng Xiping comes home from get off work, Erlang Shen and the other dogs will whine for a while when they see him, and they can only come inside after Sheng Xiping has played with them for a while.
But today, all the dogs stayed in their kennels and didn't come out.
Sheng Xiping could tell at a glance that Hua Hua hadn't left yet. Erlang Shen and the others were afraid of Hua Hua and didn't dare to come out and show off.
Actually, Erlang Shen and the others' reactions were quite good. If it were someone else's dog seeing a tiger, it would probably be so scared that it wet itself.
The dogs didn't come out, and Sheng Xiping didn't tease them either, but went straight into the house.
In the outer kitchen, Zhang Shuzhen and Zhou Qinglan were preparing the meal.
Both pots in the east and west rooms were open, and steam was rising and filling the air.
The dim light reflected off the mist, creating a halo of orange that gradually faded, making everything in the room look somewhat unreal.
"Oh, the boss is back? Perfect timing, hurry up and wash your hands and eat."
"And while you're at it, give a shout to those kids inside. Those brats are obsessed with Huahua; they don't even want to eat."
When Zhang Shuzhen saw her son return, she smiled and told him to go wash his hands.
Sheng Xiping nodded and stepped into the east room, where he saw Huahua squatting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), with the kang qin (a type of zither) behind her.
Sheng Xinhua stood beside Hua Hua, supporting the kangqin with one hand and Hua Hua with the other, while Sheng Xitai and Chen Feng sat around them.
The scene before me somehow evoked a particularly warm feeling.
Sheng Xiping felt extremely regretful. If only he had a camera at home, he could have captured this scene on camera; it would have been such a precious keepsake.
Hmm, it seems I still need to earn more money. When I have the chance in the future, I must buy a camera and take more pictures of the scenery and people of this era.
Many years later, these will be invaluable memories.
"Son, Daddy's home. Aren't you going to say hello? Come here, let Daddy give you a hug."
Sheng Xiping took off his coat and hat, hung them on the wall, turned around and clapped his hands at Sheng Xinhua, signaling Sheng Xinhua to come over and hug him.
Normally, if Sheng Xiping clapped his hands, Sheng Xinhua would immediately crawl over and beg his father to hold him.
But today, Sheng Xinhua ignored his father completely, instead hugging Hua Hua's neck and sticking to her in all sorts of ways.
Well, now that Hua Hua is here, even her father has fallen out of favor.
Sheng Xiping never imagined that one day he would be no match for a tiger, and he stood there stunned.
When Sheng Xitai, Chen Feng, Sheng Yunfang, and the others saw this, they all burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at? Go wash your hands! It's time to eat," Sheng Xi said sternly, her face hardening.
The children, trying to suppress their laughter, quickly put on their shoes, got out of bed, washed their hands, and prepared to eat.
Just then, Zhang Shuzhen and Zhou Qinglan brought up the food.
Tonight, we're having steamed buns at home, with sauerkraut and pork filling.
