In the clinic, Dr. Qiao was giving someone acupuncture when she heard Sheng Xiping's words and paused in surprise.
"What's wrong? Is there any danger in your wife giving birth?" These days, most women give birth at home, regardless of whether they live in the city or the countryside.
Going to the hospital to give birth usually results in difficult labor or severe bleeding.
Dr. Qiao is not an obstetrician. When people give birth in the forest farm, almost no one asks her to deliver the babies. They all go to experienced old women.
So Dr. Qiao was quite puzzled as to why Sheng Xiping had come to see her.
When Dr. Qiao asked this, Sheng Xiping was also taken aback. "No, there's no danger. She just has a bad stomachache."
"Isn't it normal to have a stomachache? What woman doesn't have a stomachache when she gives birth?"
Do you think this is like a hen laying an egg, just popping one anywhere? Now you're all pitying your wife, where were you before?
Dr. Qiao rolled his eyes, not understanding why Sheng Xiping had rushed over in such a hurry.
"I... I was worried she might be in danger, so I wanted to ask Dr. Qiao to go and take a look," Sheng Xiping said, taken aback by the reprimand.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Qiao laughed, "You, I don't know what to say to you. Your wife is fine, so just give birth. If you come to me, there's nothing I can do to help."
If anything happens, then come and call me.
"The young man hadn't experienced much. He was terrified when he heard his wife screaming and yelling during childbirth."
The woman receiving the acupuncture was an elderly woman, and there were several other people waiting to see a doctor and get medicine. They couldn't help but laugh.
"Xiping, hurry home and take good care of your wife. She might give birth soon, it could be a second child."
"Yes, yes, your wife is in good health. Her first pregnancy went smoothly, so this one will definitely be fine too."
"Hurry home, or your wife will give birth."
Everyone laughed and chattered.
Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping was also stunned. "Then I should go home?" Is everything really alright? Sheng Xiping found it hard to believe.
"Hey, stop dawdling here and hurry home. Come back if something really happens." Dr. Qiao waved his hand, signaling Sheng Xiping to leave quickly.
Sheng Xiping then turned around and ran back.
As soon as he ran into his yard, he heard someone inside say, "Quick, I can see the scalp. Give it a little more push, and it'll be born in a couple more pushes."
Then, Zhou Qinglan let out a muffled groan, her voice strained and barely suppressed.
Then someone else said, "The head is out, the head is out, quick, do it again."
Then, a voice came from inside the house, "He's out, he's out, oh my, it's a boy."
There seemed to be a slapping or hitting sound; after two slapping sounds, a loud baby cry came from inside the house.
"Listen to that, what a bright and clear voice! This kid is healthy and will definitely take after his father; he'll be very capable. Congratulations, Sister-in-law Sheng!"
In the west room, Chen Xiulan quickly used clean, boiled scissors to cut the baby's umbilical cord, then tied it off with gauze before handing the baby to Zhang Shuzhen.
Zhang Shuzhen quickly wrapped the child in a large quilt, then wrapped it in another layer of blankets, and tied it with rope.
Xu Xiuxiang handed over the scale, placed the child on the scale pan, and gently lifted it up.
“Wow, this child is quite heavy, weighing six pounds and eight ounces, which is two ounces heavier than Xinhua was back then.”
After weighing the baby, Xu Xiuxiang carried the baby to the side, and Zhang Shuzhen came over to clean up the blood and put on her pants.
He swept the toilet paper from under Zhou Qinglan and put it aside, removed the old mattress, and remade the bedding.
"Girl, lie down for a while and close your eyes. Don't think about anything. If you feel anything is wrong, just tell me right away."
Zhang Shuzhen took a towel, wiped the sweat from Zhou Qinglan's forehead, covered her with a blanket, and tucked the corner of the blanket in.
Zhou Qinglan was young and in good health. This time, her childbirth was faster and smoother than Sheng Xinhua's, so she didn't experience as much physical exertion.
A woman who has already given birth once is experienced, unlike the first time when she was stubborn and foolish.
When her mother-in-law told her to close her eyes, Zhou Qinglan immediately closed them and dozed off.
Xu Xiuxiang and Chen Xiulan helped tidy up the room and wiped the newborn baby's head and face. Seeing that Zhou Qinglan was alright, they left with peace of mind.
Zhang Shuzhen followed him out and happened to see Sheng Xiping standing there dumbfounded.
"Mom, how is Qinglan?" Sheng Xiping asked hurriedly when he saw his mother come out.
I just heard the baby crying, so the child is definitely okay. He's more worried about the adults.
"Everything's fine, everything's fine. Your wife gave birth to a big, healthy baby boy weighing six pounds and eight ounces."
"You're lucky, kid, you already have two sons." Xu Xiuxiang said with great envy.
Chen Weiguo grew up with Sheng Xiping. Now Sheng Xiping's family has two sons, while Chen Weiguo only has a daughter.
Although the whole family was very happy about the birth of their granddaughter, Xu Xiuxiang always thought that it would be perfect if her daughter-in-law could give birth to a grandson.
"Thank you, Aunt Chen, thank you, Aunt Wang. It's all thanks to you for coming to help today."
Otherwise, I don't know anything and can't help at all. It's all up to my mom, and she can't manage anything."
At this point, Sheng Xiping finally snapped out of his daze and returned to normal.
"Well, what you're saying is, isn't that how neighbors should live? Helping each other out."
When Li Xue from my family and Zhao Juan from her family gave birth, didn't your mother go to help?
"Don't stand on ceremony with us, go check on your wife." Chen Xiulan chuckled and pulled Xu Xiuxiang outside.
