Chen Weiguo and Zhao Juan had already registered their marriage, so she was legally Chen's daughter-in-law.
When Zhao Shucheng left, he said that his hometown was too far away and they couldn't come to Zhao Juan's wedding. Everything was up to the Chen family to decide.
Aside from her aunt Zhao Shuhua, Zhao Juan has no other relatives here. Xu Xiuxiang can only discuss matters related to her marriage with Zhao Shuhua.
Based on the winter sports schedule, the two families decided to hold the wedding for Chen Weiguo and Zhao Juan on the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month.
The Chen family has been in Qianchuan Forest Farm for many years, and they have a lot of social interactions with people there.
The eldest son's wedding must be a grand affair, not a sloppy affair. Otherwise, the Liu family would laugh at them to death.
So Xu Xiuxiang gritted her teeth and started preparing for the wedding well in advance, determined to prove herself.
On the morning of the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month, Sheng Xiping led Wang Jianshe, Gao Haining, Pan Fusheng, Zhang Zhijun, and others, carrying ropes, wire, and other equipment, into the mountains and set many snares following the tracks of wild animals on the snow.
In several places, Sheng Xiping noticed traces of roe deer, so he climbed a tree and applied some frostbite to the area around the hanging nets.
In the afternoon, Sheng Xiping went to Liu's house and told Liu Changde that he wanted to take the dog back and take it up the mountain the next day to hunt some game for Chen Weiguo.
Liu Changde didn't let Sheng Xiping take the dog away directly. He just asked Sheng Xiping what time they would be going into the mountains the next morning, and told them to come and get the dog the next morning.
The main problem is that Sheng Xinhua is still in her postpartum period, and the baby can't stand the sound of dogs barking, so it's best to leave the dog with the Liu family for the time being.
Sheng Xiping thought about it and realized that it made sense. The baby was only a few days away from turning one month old, so he shouldn't startle him. A newborn baby shouldn't be bothered by gossip.
And so, early in the morning of the 25th of the twelfth lunar month, Sheng Xiping led Sheng Xi'an, Sheng Xikang, Wang Jianshe, and others to the Liu family to fetch their dog.
"Xiping, bring all the dogs in the house with you. If you only bring half and not the other half, Daqing and the others will howl for ages."
Since there are plenty of you, you can manage to keep an eye on everything, so take them all up the mountain.
Originally, Sheng Xiping only planned to bring his own six dogs, but Liu Changde had his daughter-in-law feed them all early in the morning.
When the dogs saw Sheng Xiping and his men carrying guns, they knew they were going hunting, and they all started whining at Sheng Xiping.
In fact, the Liu brothers took their dogs into the mountains quite often that winter and looted a lot of things, including two bear gallbladders.
Just recently, with the end of the year approaching, the two brothers were busy with many things at the commune and brigade and didn't have time to go hunting in the mountains.
The dogs had been cooped up at home for several days, and when they saw Sheng Xiping's outfit, they were all incredibly eager.
When Sheng Xiping looked, he saw that Daqing, Erqing, and the others were wagging their tails at him, as if they wanted to stand up and pounce on him to lick him a few times.
Okay, then take it with you.
“Alright, Master, then I’ll be a landlord today, a real tycoon, and take thirteen dogs into the mountains.”
Including the four half-grown puppies Zhaocai, Wangfu, Dalong, and Erhu, the Sheng and Liu families have a total of thirteen dogs.
With this gang of scoundrels, you couldn't find another one like them anywhere else, let alone in Dajianchang.
"Second brother, third brother, you take the big ones and the rest. Jianshe and Haining, you take the big ones from my family. Fusheng and Junzi, you take the small ones."
Sheng Xiping was worried that Daqing and the others weren't familiar with Wang Jianshe, so he had his younger brother lead them.
And so, the group of seven, carrying three guns and leading thirteen hunting dogs, came out of the Dajianchang and headed straight for the place where they had set the traps the day before.
Surprisingly, the group was quite lucky. After exploring several areas, they found six or seven pheasants and five rabbits, which they put into sacks for Sheng Xi'an and Zhang Zhijun to carry.
"Let's go check over there on the hanging feet. We put a lot of frozen greens in there yesterday; we might find something."
Pheasants have their own way of life, and rabbits have theirs. When setting a trap, you have to follow the animals' habits; you can't just do it randomly.
After walking everyone here and putting away the harnesses, Sheng Xiping led the group and the dogs towards a patch of second-hand woods in the distance.
Before they even reached the edge of the woods, Erlang Shen, the leopard, and Daqing all became restless and started howling.
Sheng Xiping didn't let the dog go, but just reminded everyone to be careful. The group then headed towards the place where the foot covers had been lowered the day before.
Yesterday, Sheng Xiping set three snares here. When everyone arrived, they found that all three snares had been triggered, and two of them had caught prey, a male and a female roe deer.
When Erlang Shen and his dogs approached, they saw the roe deer hanging in mid-air, and that was it. They jumped up and down, barking loudly.
"Oh, these roe deer are a male and a female."
"It's a pity they're all dead. If they were alive, we could catch them and raise them; maybe they'd have a litter of roe deer pups next spring."
As everyone approached, they hurriedly began to butcher the roe deer, while Gao Haining muttered to himself as they did so.
"What's the pity? This thing is hard to raise; it gets bulging-eye miasma when it gets angry."
Besides, this is for a banquet in Weiguo, not for capturing animals to take back and raise.
"If we bring back two alive, aren't you afraid someone will sue us? Hurry up, while the roe deer are still alive and not hard, gut them."
Sheng Xiping waved his hand, saying that these days are not suitable for raising livestock.
If you kill the game in the mountains and take it back to eat, no one will say anything. But if you take it back and raise it, who knows who might complain and report it to the higher-ups, and you'll get into a lot of trouble.
When Little Tiger Hua Hua was at the Sheng family's house, Sheng Xiping had already informed the crowd, and Wang Jiachuan and the others all knew about it.
At the time, some people even suggested sending Huahua to the provincial zoo.
