When Sheng Xiping entered the room, Liu Changde was playing with the two older children, while Qin Qiuyan was holding Liu Yujiang's youngest son on the kang (a heated brick bed) and coaxing him.
"Master, mistress, oh, are you coaxing your grandson?"
So far, all three younger members of the Liu family are boys.
Qin Qiuyan had two mischievous sons and was hoping for a granddaughter, but her grandsons kept coming and going, and there was still no sign of a granddaughter.
"Oh, Xiping's here? Come on, have a seat. Hongwen, Hongyuan, didn't you see your uncle's here? Hurry up and greet him."
Liu Changde waved to Sheng Xiping, then gestured for his two grandsons to greet him.
Liu Hongwen is from Liu Yujiang's family, and Liu Hongyuan is from Liu Yuhe's family; one is six years old and the other is five.
The two little ones were clever and quick-witted, and they were also very familiar with Sheng Xiping. As soon as they saw Sheng Xiping arrive, the two children rushed over to him.
"Hello, Uncle." As they spoke, the two children, like monkeys, tried to climb all over Sheng Xiping, using both their hands and feet.
Sheng Xiping was Liu Changde's apprentice, not just in name only, but he was a formally recognized disciple with a banquet and a formal kowtow.
According to the old rules, then there would be no difference between them and biological children.
Sheng Xiping called the two Liu brothers "eldest brother" and "second brother," so he was the third oldest. Therefore, the Liu family children called Sheng Xiping "third uncle."
"Hey, it's been so long since I've seen you two. You've gotten so much more capable!" Sheng Xiping bent down and picked up his two little nephews, one in each arm.
"Hey, are you two trying to fly? And you both want your third uncle to carry you? Do you know how heavy you are? Get down right now."
At this moment, Liu Yuhe also entered the house. Upon seeing the situation, he quickly called the children down.
"Second brother, how heavy can two kids be? Carrying them won't tire me out. Don't scold them."
Sheng Xiping didn't let go, and said with a smile while holding the two children.
"Keep them spoiled, you're both spoiling them. If you keep spoiling them, they'll be climbing on the roof and tearing the tiles off the house." Liu Yuhe glared at his son and shook his head.
Just then, Liu Yujiang came from the backyard carrying some things. When he saw the dog outside, he knew that Sheng Xiping had arrived.
"Are you all packed? Let's hurry up, it's quite far over there."
The sound arrived before the person even entered the house.
When Liu Yujiang stepped into the house, he saw his eldest son and nephew, each with their arms around Sheng Xiping's neck, being held by Sheng Xiping.
"Liu Hongwen, get down here right now! You're so capable, you're so big and you still let your third uncle carry you?" Liu Yujiang glared at his son.
To be honest, these two kids aren't afraid of Liu Yuhe, but they are afraid of Liu Yujiang.
Upon seeing Liu Yujiang's unpleasant expression, the two children quickly slid off Sheng Xiping.
"Brother, let's go up the mountain first, knock that big blind bear down, and then have your sister-in-law cook some good dishes so we can have a drink together."
Liu Yujiang glanced at his watch and realized it was getting late; he needed to hurry up the mountain.
Sheng Xiping nodded, "Master, Mistress, let's go up the mountain first, and chat with you two later."
And so, the three brothers, leading six dogs, left the alkali field and headed northwest.
We traversed mountains and valleys, passing between the operational areas of Shengli Forest Farm and Shuguang Forest Farm. After crossing the Shengli River, we continued forward to a rocky area.
"Brother, it's just ahead."
At the beginning of winter, I set a trap in the second forest we had passed by before, hoping to catch a couple of roe deer to take home and eat.
The next day when I came to walk the roe deer, it was gone, and there was blood and large footprints on the ground.
When I saw the footprints, they were like palm-leaf fans with no heels, so I knew it was a big guy and followed the footprints all the way to this area.
I was alone and didn't dare to look after it, so I figured I'd wait until it was soundly asleep in winter before coming to kill the barn animal.
Liu Yujiang pointed to a stone cave ahead and said that the entrance of the cave was covered with a layer of white frost, which proved that there were living things inside.
That white frost is formed from the hot breath exhaled by animals, which condenses when it encounters cold air.
Before a bear settles down, it will create a trail by circling around certain areas to confuse its trackers.
Knowing the habits of bears well, Liu Yujiang searched nearby and, sure enough, found two tufts of brown fur at the entrance of a stone cave.
Needless to say, the cave must have been hiding a large brown bear.
"Brother, you're too bold! You even dared to follow it so close. Aren't you afraid it's hiding in some corner and will come out and pounce on you?"
Sheng Xiping felt a chill run down his spine after hearing Liu Yujiang's description.
What if the bear didn't go into the cave, but instead hid somewhere and was attacked by Liu Yujiang again?
"I was so focused on chasing the bear that I didn't think much about it. When I got home and told my dad, I almost got a beating from him and my mom."
Liu Yujiang grinned, realizing he had acted impulsively out of sheer enthusiasm. Later, when he came to his senses, he felt increasingly terrified.
Sheng Xiping couldn't help but laugh when he pictured Liu Changde and Qin Qiuyan, the elderly couple, playing a doubles match against their son.
Liu Yujiang is almost 26 or 27, and if his parents beat him up again, it would be hilarious.
"So what do we do now? Brother, you're the one who found this warehouse, so you decide how to kill them."
Sheng Xiping is here to help today; everything is up to the Liu brothers, and he cannot make decisions on his own.
"Okay then, brother, tie the dogs to the tree first, so they don't run around."
Your second brother is called Cangzi. I'll get ready to fight from the side, and you can provide backup from behind.
If we accidentally kill Cangzi, you quickly unleash the dogs and help us.
Judging from the footprints we've seen before, the creature in the cave must weigh at least five or six hundred pounds. Such a big guy is incredibly resilient and won't be easy to defeat.
