Chapter 460 Contractual Matters

On the 22nd day of the twelfth lunar month, high schools were given a holiday.

After lunch, the family packed their things and went back to the forest farm for the Spring Festival.

Just like last year, Aunt Li stayed in Songjianghe to look after the house.

Anyway, the family had everything they needed, and Sheng Xiping gave Aunt Li a lot of money, telling her to buy whatever she liked and not to be stingy.

"You can go back without worry. I'll take care of things here."

Aunt Li helped carry the two bags to the car, smiling as she said, "Please give my regards to your parents when you get back."

The family got into the car. Sheng Xitai sat in the front passenger seat, while Zhou Qinglan and the four children sat in the back.

This car has five seats, and it should be able to seat three people in the back.

Fortunately, the Sheng family children were still young. Zhou Qinglan held Xin Yue, and Sheng Xinhua held Xin Qi, so they were able to sit down comfortably.

Anyway, no one checks for overloading these days, as long as you can squeeze in and find a place to sit, it's fine.

It was Sheng Xitai's first time riding in a car, and he was incredibly excited after getting in. He touched and looked at everything, his eyes practically glued to the car.

"Brother, this car is really nice, it's so rare to see one."

Sheng Xitai saw the car the night it was delivered, but he was busy with school from dawn till dusk and didn't have time to look at it carefully.

I got on the bus today and was finally able to take a closer look. I think this bus is great in every way.

"Study hard. If you can get into a good school like your third brother, I'll give you one when you graduate."

In modern terms, Sheng Xiping was definitely a brother-doting fanatic.

When the third son was getting married, Sheng Xiping gave him money to buy a house and a full set of furniture. Even the three gold pieces for the engagement were bought by Sheng Xiping.

Although Zhang Shuzhen said she would pay for the three gold pieces, could Sheng Xiping really accept his mother's money?

Sheng Xiping dotes on his youngest son the most. To encourage him to study hard, Sheng Xiping went all out this time, saying he would reward him with a car.

"Really? Big brother, you're not kidding me, are you? I'm serious."

Upon hearing this, Sheng Xitai's eyes widened, and he excitedly asked in a loud voice.

In this semester's final exams, he ranked third in the entire grade, just 1.5 points behind second place and 5 points behind first place.

Sheng Xitai felt that he hadn't even used his full strength yet. If he gritted his teeth and pushed himself harder next semester, it wouldn't be impossible for him to be number one in the grade.

Despite being only established a few years ago, Songlin High School boasts exceptional teaching quality. In this summer's college entrance examination, Songlin High School achieved the top score in the entire forestry system of the province.

If Sheng Xitai can get first place in his grade, getting into Tsinghua or Peking University shouldn't be a problem.

"I'm not kidding, I'm serious."

"Of all the kids in our family, you're the only one who hasn't taken the college entrance exam yet. Study hard and don't embarrass the family. I'll definitely get you a car when the exam comes."

Sheng Xiping smiled. Would an older brother lie to his younger brother?

My youngest son will take the college entrance exam next year, and then spend four more years in university. Society is developing so fast these days. By then, big cities will have all kinds of cars, nothing will be special.

Getting Sheng Xitai a car for commuting to and from get off work was perfectly normal. Back then, domestically produced cars were readily available and didn't cost much, so getting one was a simple matter.

Sheng Xiping only has a few younger brothers and sisters, right? As long as they're happy, what's a few gifts? He'll just spoil them.

"Thank you, brother. Don't worry, I will study hard and make sure I get into a good university so that I won't let you and my sister-in-law down."

Sheng Xitai immediately sat up straight and raised his right hand to make a promise.

The two brothers in front were chatting animatedly, while Zhou Qinglan, holding her daughter, smiled faintly and remained silent.

The money was earned by Sheng Xiping, and he could spend it however he wanted, whether it went to his younger brother or sister, it wouldn't end up with outsiders.

Putting everything else aside, just considering how well her in-laws have taken care of her and their children over the years, Zhou Qinglan felt that as long as they were able, she didn't need to feel bad about spending any amount of money on her family.

Zhou Qinglan didn't want a car, firstly because of geographical restrictions—she didn't want to be too high-profile—and secondly because she really didn't like cars.

If Sheng Xitai can really get into a university in the capital or Shanghai, he will definitely do well in the future. Living in a big city without a car is really inconvenient.

Therefore, Zhou Qinglan had no objection to her husband's suggestion to give her a car.

The road leading to the forest farm was a gravel road that the Forestry Bureau contracted to the military to build in exchange for timber. It was mainly for large trucks to transport timber.

This road was only built two years ago, and it's maintained by a dedicated road maintenance team, so the road condition is quite good.

In winter, the snow on the road is scraped smooth by the road scraper.

Although the concept of snow tires doesn't really exist these days, cars in the north generally have snow chains.

Sheng Xiping's car was also specially equipped with snow chains, so it didn't affect his driving on icy and snowy roads at all.

More than an hour later, the car drove into the forest farm and stopped at the entrance of the alley east of the Sheng family's house.

The two children, Sheng Xinyue and Sheng Xinqi, fell asleep shortly after getting in the car and didn't wake up even after the car stopped.

With no other option, Zhou Qinglan had to get out of the car carrying her daughter, while Sheng Xiping carried the other one.

Sheng Xitai and his two nephews carried large bags and small packages as they entered their own courtyard.

Just now, when the car stopped, Leopard and Fat Tiger barked a few times towards the outside.

As Sheng Xiping and the others got out of the car and walked into the yard, the dog recognized the familiar footsteps and knew that its owner had returned, so it immediately changed its behavior.

The leopard and the fat tiger are all old. They usually lie in their den and don't like to move around much, nor do they like to bark.

However, at this moment, all the dogs came out of their kennels, whimpering and shaking their heads at Sheng Xiping, looking extremely anxious.

With the dog making such a commotion, how could the people inside not hear it? Sheng Liancheng, Zhang Shuzhen, Sheng Yunfang, and Sheng Yunfei all came out of the house.
