Sheng Xiping was just joking when he opened the door and saw the guy lying on the ground outside, but he couldn't laugh anymore.
A female black bear weighing nearly 400 pounds lay motionless outside the Sheng family's gate, covered in wounds, its blood soaking the ground.
"Huahua, did you three do this?" Sheng Xiping was somewhat surprised and turned around to look at the three big guys behind him.
Hua Hua nuzzled Sheng Xiping with her head and then growled at Hei Xiazi, clearly telling Sheng Xiping to quickly bring Hei Xiazi into the house.
"Please wait a moment, I need to hurry up and extract the bear bile."
I don't know where this mother and her two children killed the bear, or how long the bear had been dead. If we don't remove the bear's gall bladder soon, it might absorb all the bile.
So Sheng Xiping quickly ran into the house and knocked on the door of the east room.
"Dad, get up. Hua Hua's mother and the other two are back. They brought a black bear." Sheng Xiping said in a low voice, then turned and went out with a sharp knife.
Older people tend to sleep lightly. In fact, when Sheng Xiping went out, Sheng Liancheng and his wife in the east room heard him and assumed he had gone out to relieve himself, so they didn't get up.
Upon hearing that Hua Hua had brought back the black bear, Sheng Liancheng and his wife hurriedly put on their clothes and followed her out.
Sheng Liancheng shone a flashlight on the bear, while Sheng Xiping deftly and quickly gutted the bear, severed its heart-protecting limbs, and found the bear gallbladder.
That bear was quite bold; it must have been a bear that had only recently died, its internal organs still warm.
After the bear bile was removed, Zhang Shuzhen quickly took it, went inside to boil water, dipped the bile in it, and hung it up.
Meanwhile, Sheng Liancheng and his father struggled to drag Hei Xiazi into the yard.
The Sheng family's dogs were all awake, but they only smelled the scent of Hua Hua's mother and the others, and didn't make a sound, all lying in their beds and not coming out.
In October, the temperature at night in the forest farm was already quite low. Sheng Liancheng and his son came out in a hurry, both dressed in very thin clothes.
It was pitch black at night, and a flashlight wouldn't have been enough, so after removing the internal organs, the father and son didn't continue cleaning. Instead, they left the bear in the yard and went back inside to rest.
Hua Hua, along with Jiao Jiao and Zhuang Zhuang, didn't leave. They followed Sheng Xiping into the west room, where Hua Hua lay down on the floor and fell asleep quickly, snoring away.
Whether it was the tiger's snoring that had a hypnotic effect or Sheng Xiping's exhaustion, he climbed onto the kang (heated brick bed), crawled into bed, and soon fell asleep.
He slept until almost five o'clock, when Zhang Shuzhen was already busy cooking in the outer room. Sheng Xiping also hurriedly got up, dressed, and went out to deal with the black bear.
As dawn broke, it became clear that in addition to the scratches and bite wounds, the bear also had two gunshot wounds.
One wound was on his shoulder, and the other on his side; both were fresh, large, bloody holes.
After thinking about it for a while, Sheng Xiping roughly understood that this was probably the mother bear among the mother and cub bears.
No one knows how Hua Hua and the two tiger cubs met, but the three tigers simply killed the mother bear and brought her back.
So, what happened to the other two bear cubs? Did they die or run away?
"Mom, could you give the dog some food? Not too much, just enough to fill it up halfway," Sheng Xiping said to Zhang Shuzhen.
"What, you're taking the dog into the mountains? Didn't your dad say last night that he wouldn't let you go, it's too dangerous?" Zhang Shuzhen was taken aback for a moment, then advised.
"Mom, it's alright. This mother bear should be one of those three bears. Look, she has gunshot wounds on her body."
I reckon those two bear cubs probably ran away. I'll take our dog up the mountain to check on them later. Two bear cubs shouldn't be too hard to kill."
Sheng Xiping spent the whole night worrying about it and didn't sleep well. Now that he knew the mother bear was dead, he definitely couldn't let the two bear cubs go.
Unable to persuade her son, Zhang Shuzhen could only sigh and feed the dog.
Breakfast was ready, and the dog food was also cooked through, so I scooped it out and let it cool.
After Sheng Xiping finished eating, the dog food got cold, so he fed the dog.
Then he went back inside to change his clothes, tied his leg straps, packed the things he needed for the mountain into his sling bag, and took his gun from the wall.
Hua Hua, who was originally lying on the ground sleeping, immediately got up when she saw Sheng Xiping's outfit. She raised her paw and patted the two cubs, waking up Jiao Jiao and Zhuang Zhuang as well.
Jiaojiao and Zhuangzhuang should be two years and four months old. They are both quite big. Jiaojiao is a size smaller than Huahua, while Zhuangzhuang is about the same size as Huahua.
These two tiger cubs will probably spend another winter with their mother this year.
Next spring, it will be driven away by the tigress, leaving her territory to live independently.
The two tiger cubs woke up groggily, not quite understanding what was going on, and just rubbed their heads against Huahua.
Hua Hua whimpered twice and led Jiao Jiao and Zhuang Zhuang out of the house.
Once inside the yard, the three tigers stretched, shook their fur, and paced back and forth, looking around.
The chickens in the henhouse and the pigs in the pigpen, at this time of day, would usually be clucking and squawking, begging for food.
However, at this moment, there was no sound at all, neither in the chicken coop nor the pigsty.
The leopards, who had just finished eating, were quite excited at this moment.
The leopards are all quite old and very clever. This morning, their dog food was noticeably less than usual. What does that mean? It means their owner is taking them into the mountains.
The dogs were all quite happy and didn't care about Hua Hua and her two companions anymore; they were all anxiously pacing around outside their doghouse.
When Sheng Xiping finished tidying up and came out, he saw three tigers in the yard. He thought the tigers were hungry, so he quickly brought over the bear's internal organs to feed them.
As a result, the three tigers didn't even glance at the internal organs, and Hua Hua, biting Sheng Xiping's collar, tried to walk out.
