Chapter 345 Robbery

"You call this not much? All these things added together should be over two thousand yuan," Director Zhang couldn't help but complain upon seeing them.

Those hunters who roam the mountains outside can only make a few hundred yuan at most when they come here, unlike this guy, who can make at least a thousand yuan when he comes.

The two were quite familiar with each other and both knew the market well, so there was nothing to argue about.

Director Zhang brought over tools such as a balance scale and an abacus. Those who needed to be weighed used the balance scale, while those who didn't needed to be weighed simply provided a quote.

While quoting prices, they also added the amounts together using an abacus.

"The lynx pelt is nice, no flaws, five hundred. These two raccoon pelts are also quite good, one hundred for both. Three musk deer shells, five hundred and fifty for you. Grass gallbladder, five hundred and thirty, copper gallbladder, six hundred and twenty."

"These gray leathers, deerskins, and deer penises cost two hundred in total. So, the total comes to two thousand five hundred."

Being able to become a director, one's professional skills are naturally beyond question; Director Zhang directly quoted the total price.

"How about it? If you think it's okay, I'll call someone over to issue the receipt and count the money."

Sheng Xiping laughed upon hearing this, "What's wrong with that? Whatever Director Zhang says is what it is. Next time I come across something good, I'll come back to Director Zhang."

This 2,500 is different from before. In the past, several people would go into the mountains, and the money from the sale would be shared among everyone.

Of the two thousand five hundred, apart from the grass gall which was to be shared among the security personnel, the rest belonged entirely to Sheng Xiping.

How does it feel to suddenly receive more than two thousand yuan?

Director Zhang is efficient and doesn't haggle over prices; he quotes exactly what's due.

Sheng Xiping was a decisive person; he thought the price was reasonable and immediately nodded in agreement.

So the two of them immediately agreed to the deal, and Director Zhang went to call someone over to issue the invoice and count the money.

Two thousand five hundred yuan. The other party took out two bundles of ten-yuan notes and one bundle of five-yuan notes, all brand new and still smelling of printing ink.

The other party counted the items again in front of Sheng Xiping, and after confirming that everything was correct, handed them to Sheng Xiping.

Sheng Xiping took the money, counted it again, and put it all, including the receipts, into the bag at his waist.

"Same as always, let's go through the backyard. Xiao Liu, you go with him and open the backyard gate so Xiao Sheng can go through."

Director Zhang pointed towards the backyard, signaling Sheng Xiping not to go to the front anymore, lest he be watched.

Two thousand yuan is equivalent to several years' salary for an average family. If anything goes wrong with it, it could be disastrous.

"Director Zhang, thanks. I'll come back to see you next time." Sheng Xiping straightened his thick cotton-padded coat, clasped his hands in a fist salute to Director Zhang, and then turned and walked towards the backyard.

Comrade Liu then followed Sheng Xiping out with the key, unlocked the small gate to the backyard, and let Sheng Xiping leave.

"Thank you, Comrade Liu. I'm sorry to have troubled you." Sheng Xiping smiled and thanked him.

"You're welcome. Be careful on your way." Xiao Liu nodded, closed the door, and locked it again.

Emerging from the backyard of the local products company, one finds a secluded alley. Sheng Xiping glances at the alley entrance, but nothing seems amiss.

Sheng Xiping was still not entirely at ease, so he took out the short knife from his waist and held it in his hand, then put his hand in the pocket of his cotton-padded coat.

Then he pressed down on his hat with his left hand, turned up the collar of his coat to cover his face, and walked quickly out of the alley.

"Hey buddy, can I borrow some money?"

Before Sheng Xiping could even step out of the alley, someone came towards him and blocked his way.

The man was tall and thin, and there seemed to be something in one of his sleeves, with a small part of it sticking out from the cuff. It looked a bit like a three-section staff.

Sheng Xiping was taken aback, realizing he was in trouble; someone had been targeting him.

He's been coming to the county quite often these past two years; I guess he's been targeted by someone with ulterior motives.

In the past, Wang Jianshe and his group would always come together, and with so many people, no one dared to mess with them.

He came by himself today, and when others saw an opportunity, they ambushed him at the alley entrance.

There's only one person in front of me, so dealing with him shouldn't be difficult. But I don't know if he has any accomplices.

It's not the right time to get entangled; the priority is to find a way to get away as soon as possible.

"Dude, you've got the wrong person. We don't know each other at all. Why would you want to borrow money from me?"

Sheng Xiping gripped the short knife tightly in his right hand, while his left hand remained on his collar, shielding his face, and spoke in a muffled voice.

As he spoke, he subtly twisted his body and glanced behind him out of the corner of his eye.

Upon closer inspection, Sheng Xiping noticed that another person was walking towards him from the other end of the alley behind him.

The man was a little short, and there was something sticking out inside his coat, which looked like he was carrying something at his waist, either an axe or a knife.

Well, there are people in front and behind, it won't be easy to escape.

"Damn it, stop playing dumb. We've been watching you the whole time. You got away with it by escaping through the back door the last few times. Consider yourself lucky."

"Since you came alone today, hand over the money obediently, and we won't say anything. Otherwise, you can just leave here today."

The slightly taller guy opposite him flicked his wrist, revealing a three-section staff hidden in his sleeve.

With a wave of his hand, the young man swung his three-section staff rapidly, creating a whooshing sound.

Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping understood; there were only two people involved.

However, these two were clearly prepared. Judging from the way the man opposite them was wielding the three-section staff, he seemed to have some skill.

If we're not careful today, it won't be easy for us to get out of this mess.

"Oh, you two think so highly of me, so I can't be ungrateful. How much do you two need to borrow? I'll give it to you right away."
