Chapter 174 Wild Beasts Enter the Village
On the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month, Sheng Xiping and Zhou Qinglan got engaged. That night, the Sheng family stayed at the hotel for another night.
On the morning of the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month, a group of people got up, packed their things, and prepared to take the small train back to Qianchuan Forest Farm.
Zhou Mingyuan sent his eldest son and daughter to see them off at the station, and also prepared a lot of food for the Sheng family to take with them on the road.
Around seven o'clock, the little train departed, and the journey was smooth. Around nine o'clock, the little train arrived at Qianchuan Forest Farm.
It's already the 26th of the twelfth lunar month, and the New Year is just around the corner. Every household has a lot to do.
So Zhang Shuzhen didn't force Li Yuqin to come home for a visit. Instead, she let Li Yuqin take back all the things that the Zhou siblings had brought to help Tang Fengying recover.
Li Yuqin didn't want it at first, but the Sheng family's kindness, and the fact that it was for their daughter, made her accept it in the end.
So Li Yuqin returned to the Tang family, while the Sheng family of three took the things they brought back from the engagement back to their own home.
Before leaving, Zhang Shuzhen prepared a lot of food. Besides, Sheng Xi'an and Sheng Xikang were both grown up and could do basic housework.
So when they were away from home for two days, everything at home was normal and not as dirty or messy as they had expected.
Of course, there are still differences compared to when Zhang Shuzhen is at home, so when Zhang Shuzhen came in, she put down her things and quickly tidied up the house.
Sheng Xiping was just about to change his clothes before going out to find Wang Jianshe and the others.
Before he could even change his clothes, he heard footsteps outside.
"Brother Xiping, are you back? My dad is looking for you and wants you to come over right away."
As soon as you hear that noise, you know it's Wang Tianqing's voice.
Sheng Xiping paused for a moment, then started buttoning his shirt as he walked out.
"Tianqing, what's wrong? The New Year is almost here, is there still some production task at the farm?"
Wang Tianqing stood at the entrance of the Sheng family's house, not going inside.
"Brother Xiping, it's not a production task, it's just that some wild animal has gotten into our forest farm."
The pigs and sheep at the agricultural team's farm have been badly damaged by those things.
My dad got anxious and found out you were supposed to be back today, so when he heard the little train coming into the station, he told me to go find you.
I went to the train station but couldn't find you, so I came to look for you at home.
"What? Wild animals have entered our forest farm? Harassing pigs and sheep? What is it? Has anyone seen it?"
Sheng Xiping was also quite puzzled when he heard this.
Although Qianchuan Forest Farm is surrounded by large forests, few people raise poultry and livestock, so it is generally not harmed by wild animals.
Moreover, the pigs and sheep are all in the pen, and the security personnel patrol at night. How could wild animals be allowed to come in and cause damage?
"Wait a minute, let me put on my coat."
Sheng Xiping said "er," went back inside to put on his coat and hat, and then followed Wang Tianqing to the farm office.
Normally, the forest farm would be on holiday at this time, and everyone except the night watchmen and those who tended the fires would go home to work.
But right now, Wang Jiachuan, Zheng Xianyong, and Lao Hu from the agricultural team were all sitting in Wang Jiachuan's office at the farm headquarters.
"Oh, Xiping, you're back! Come on, sit down."
Upon seeing Sheng Xiping, Wang Jiachuan quickly gestured for him to sit down.
"Secretary Wang, Director Zheng, Uncle Hu, what's going on?"
I heard from Tianqing that our farm's livestock farm received some supplies?
The stove inside was quite warm. Sheng Xiping took off his hat and asked directly.
"That's right. Two nights in a row."
At the other end of the farm, two adult sheep died and a lamb went missing the night before.
The next day, a pig died and a piglet was lost.
The piglet only weighed thirty or forty pounds. The original plan was to raise it for another year and slaughter it next winter.
"Old Hu, the head of the agricultural team, said with a heavy heart."
Upon hearing this, Sheng Xiping immediately sensed something amiss. What kind of wild beast had entered, and was it so powerful?
"Uncle Hu, tell me in detail what exactly happened?"
We need to understand what happened before we can determine what kind of wild animal it was.
So, Lao Hu told Sheng Xiping the whole story.
In order to enrich the lives of the staff, the forestry farm's agricultural team also raised a small number of livestock.
The agricultural team happens to grow good grain, which they then sell to the workers.
Those corn kernels with no filling, bean husks, bean pods, baby potatoes, and small sweet potatoes are kept to feed the pigs.
Corn stalks, bean stalks, cabbage leaves, and radish greens can be used to feed sheep.
This can be considered a comprehensive approach to maximize benefits.
The livestock pens were not in the center of the forest farm, but on the periphery.
Actually, it wasn't too far from the collective residence of the educated youth. There were people specifically looking after it, and someone was on duty at night.
Everything was normal the night before last, and the people on duty didn't hear anything unusual.
But when I got up yesterday morning, I found two large sheep dead in the sheepfold. Their bellies had been ripped open, and blood was everywhere.
Upon closer inspection, they realized that one lamb was missing.
The zookeeper noticed something was wrong and immediately reported it. Old Hu then called the security department to come and investigate, and they even followed the trail of blood.
They followed it all the way from the sheepfold to the back of the field, and then from the back of the field into the woods.
About two or three miles from Hou Dadi, they found a sheep that had been gutted, leaving only its skeleton and head.
The security personnel couldn't figure out what kind of wild animal had bitten them, let alone catch it.
There was no other way but to tell the agricultural team to be more vigilant at night.
Alternatively, place some clips or similar objects around the sheep pen to prevent further losses.
There aren't many people in the forest who know how to hunt, and Sheng Xiping is considered the best, but he happened to be in Songjianghe for his engagement and wasn't at the forest.
