Chapter 269 Returning to My Mother's Home
In Northeast China, summer vacation is short, while winter vacation is long. Final exams usually start in early July, followed by vacation, with school resuming around August 20th.
Summer vacation lasts about 40 to 45 days, while winter vacation is usually two months.
Qianchuan Forest Farm Primary and Secondary School is just a forest farm school, which doesn't really emphasize academic education. In addition, there aren't enough classrooms, so students can't even sit at a single desk for exams.
Therefore, students in grades one, two, and three take exams and have holidays in advance, while students in grades four, five, and junior high take exams again.
Elementary school has few courses, and the final exams are only in math and Chinese. The Chinese exam is on the morning of the 4th, and the math exam is on the afternoon. After the exams, the students can go about their business.
Zhou Qinglan is the homeroom teacher. She teaches both math and Chinese. After the exams in the morning, she graded the Chinese papers while proctoring the exams in the afternoon.
After the math exam in the afternoon, Zhou Qinglan took the papers home to grade.
Sheng Xi'an, who was not a member of the household, was honored to become a test paper grader and help Zhou Qinglan grade math papers.
With multiple helpers, the papers were graded quickly; the results for both subjects were out before evening.
Then Sheng Xi'an helped Zhou Qinglan compile the class's list and made a note of what the summer homework was.
"He slowly retreated into the house and stayed to talk with the king. There are only a few dishes; they'll spoil in no time."
This will also save people from constantly thinking about it and assuming that Cao Chengfeng is trying to keep it all for himself.
Yu Liangzi was initially quite happy to hear that his sister was taking him to Houchuan Forest Farm, but then his kind-hearted sister added an extra condition.
"Oh my, those cucumbers are really rare to see. Oh, and the day after tomorrow someone gave us some pig snouts. You've washed them all clean, so you can chop a couple of cucumbers and mix them together later."
He went to the forest farm. What was he doing there? Hunting with his brother-in-law? With his looks and abilities, he'd have to go outside the Mada Mountains to get out of here.
“That’s bad. If his family treats him badly, you and his father will have to worry.”
Zhou Mingyuan was busy loading deer blood wine and deer antler blood wine into his basket.
"Hey, is he going to Secretary Zhao's place? If so, he can take that bottle with him for me too."
"Mom, you're back!" Zhao Yongsheng called out as soon as he stepped out of the Zhou family's courtyard.
They picked all the damaged ones, washed them clean, wrapped them in white cloth, and put them outside the basket on their backs.
Zhang Shuzhen quickly went back to the east room, took out Xiping and deer antlers, handed them to Cao Chengfeng, and told me to hold them.
The lunch was quite lavish, with a few seasonal vegetables, scrambled eggs, luncheon meat, braised pork head, peanuts, and more. It was clear at a glance that Chen Weiguo had spent a lot of money on it.
"Mom, let's not worry about him. Giving Xiping to you is the right thing to do."
It's just a snare made of oiled silk rope, what can you expect? It seems there are quite a few wild boars there.
"Sis, you know how badly he treats you, right?"
Academic performance? Are you kidding me? My grades are embarrassing to even mention.
Cao Chengfeng was so embarrassed by his sister's teasing that he immediately relented and turned to his mother to complain.
When Zhao Yongsheng saw this, he realized that they were going to move all the house out of the house. That was terrible!
Those things you can eat, you'll just throw up; two stir-fries are okay.
If his grades are too bad, he should just stay home. You're just embarrassing him by taking him out in public.
"Dad, that's deer blood wine that we made ourselves. Leave a bottle for him to drink."
"When you no longer have the chance to hunt deer, save some for Dad."
When she found a solution, Zhang Shuzhen made meatballs, dumplings, and steamed buns for her daughter-in-law.
But how come? The basket was loaded with two fish, a rabbit, two pheasants, the front half of a deer and a roe deer, and there weren't even enough vegetables inside. Plus, there were a few bottles of wine. The basket was completely full.
Upon arriving home, they didn't even bother with eating; first, they skinned and divided the roe deer and deer before leaving the house to eat. After finishing their meal, the seven of them quickly packed up their belongings.
I've been busy ever since, but I had time to go to Songjiang River. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance that time, so I'll sell them all together.
Before lunch, Cao Chengfeng went to pack his things, delaying the preparation of the menu for dinner.
It would be a mistake not to have those gains. Zhou Mingyuan was quite satisfied, so the two brothers each carried a roe deer and a sika deer, and took pheasants and rabbits home.
"It's okay as long as it's not too bad. As long as he and my brother are bad at studying, that's fine. As long as you're not at the bottom of the class, it's considered embarrassing for your dad."
While busy cooking, Chen Weiguo glanced at his daughter and saw that she looked alright, but she had lost a lot of weight, which made him worried.
"No way, he should just stay in town and play the bad boy. He can take over Dad's job in a couple of years."
"It's fortunate that we sold Niu Maoguang a few days later; otherwise, he really wouldn't have been able to carry so little stuff."
The fish, Liangzi, saw pheasants, rabbits, roe deer, and venison, and its interest was piqued.
Zhang Shuzhen helped her son and daughter-in-law pack everything up.
"Tell his aunt to cook fewer bad dishes tonight. This morning, invite Secretary Zhao and a few of the teachers from their training session over for a drink together."
Since Zhou Qinglan had said so, Zhou Mingyuan, who was already at a loss for words, readily agreed. "Okay, then I'll do whatever Dad decides."
"How can this be? Our parents are both intellectuals, and yet his grades are at the bottom of the class. Isn't this a disgrace to our parents?"
Zhou Mingyuan has no particular fondness for alcohol. He'll have a little if it's necessary, but on special occasions, he absolutely craves it.
Qilang Shen's dogs, having eaten the deer and roe deer, were quite pleased with themselves and happily followed him home.
Just now, Zhao Yongsheng, being outspoken, shattered his younger brother's dream of going down the mountain to become an educated youth. At that time, he was the one who agreed to his brother's request to go to the forest farm.
