Chen Weimin has seven siblings, more than the Sheng family.
After Chen Weiguo got married, the family did not separate. The whole family was crammed into that two and a half public housing rooms, which was really not enough room for everyone.
So after Chen Weimin and Lin Junhua got their marriage certificate, Chen Shiliang and his wife came to find Sheng Liancheng and his wife, wanting to spend money to buy the Sheng family's old house. Just then, the garden was cleared, and the two families became one.
Previously, Sheng Liancheng and his wife had been thinking that they would rebuild their old house when they had enough money in the future.
As a result, the children went to school one after another and it was clear that they would never be able to return to the forest farm. Sheng Xiping also bought a house in Songjianghe and moved out to live separately.
The Sheng family has enough rooms to live in; there's no need to keep the old house.
So when the Chen family came over to discuss it, Sheng Liancheng and his wife agreed.
The old house was a mud-brick and straw house, which wasn't worth much money, so the Sheng family symbolically accepted a small amount of money.
The two families went to the forest farm to complete the formalities, and the house then belonged to the Chen family, which was perfect for Chen Weimin's wedding.
Although the Sheng family's house is quite old, Sheng Liancheng would tidy it up carefully every summer, so it wasn't dilapidated.
After the Chen family took over, they painted the interior and exterior walls white, replaced the roof with wooden tiles, and rebuilt the stove, kang (heated brick bed), and fire wall.
The forest farm has a rule that each employee who is about to get married is limited to 1.5 cubic meters of timber and must pay 45 yuan.
The Chen family hired two carpenters from the Dajianchang area, who worked for over a month to make a complete set of furniture.
Chen Weimin has a good foundation in art, so he uses an electric soldering iron to burn landscape paintings onto furniture surfaces. The lines are clear, the shades are just right, and the paintings are simple and elegant, which are more beautiful than the flower and bird paintings of today.
After such a thorough renovation, you can hardly tell that it was the old house.
Because the Lin family had always had objections to the marriage, the bride's family only sent Lin Junhua's older brother, Lin Junwen, to the wedding, and the bride's family did not provide any dowry.
Fortunately, the Chen family made a grand preparation, specially preparing something as Lin Junhua's dowry.
At the same time, several girls from the processing plant who got along well with Lin Junhua were invited to act as his family members.
Lin Junhua left the forest farm dormitory to get married. Chen Weimin led the wedding procession, with music and festivities, to bring his new bride to the Chen family home.
The original garden cane was removed, and the space suddenly felt much more spacious.
On the wall under the eaves, a silk quilt cover was hanging, with a double happiness symbol cut from bright red paper pasted on it.
A square table was placed in front of them, covered with a tablecloth. Several chairs were placed next to the table. On the left were Chen Shiliang and his wife, and on the right was Lin Junhua's brother, Lin Junwen.
The wedding was officiated by Zhao Xiangyang, the chairman of the labor union. He was eloquent, humorous, and witty, and his various jokes made everyone laugh so hard they were doubled over.
The wedding proceeded smoothly in this lively atmosphere.
Chen Weimin and Lin Junhua, dressed in new clothes, stood in front of everyone with smiles on their faces, bowing to the leaders of the forest farm and the guests, and thanking everyone.
The Chen family spared no expense for Chen Weimin's wedding, even slaughtering the two pigs they caught in the spring to prepare a wedding feast.
The banquet was, as one can imagine, quite impressive. There were about ten tables set up, which was just the right amount of space.
Zheng Xianyong, Zhao Xiangyang, Wang Junsheng, Sheng Liancheng and others were all invited to sit at the head table.
The Chen family originally wanted Sheng Xiping to sit at this table as well, but Sheng Xiping declined, saying that he was too young and didn't want to be part of that group.
Finally, Sheng Xiping and Wang Jianshe, along with a few others, were seated at the same table as Lin Junhua's brother, essentially accompanying the guests from her maternal family.
The marriage between Lin Junhua and Chen Weimin is a done deal. Regardless of what Lin Junwen thinks in his heart, he has to keep a straight face.
Moreover, the Chen family's high regard for the marriage and for Junhua made Lin Junwen feel much better.
He was about the same age as Wang Jianshe, Sheng Xiping and others, and they had a lot in common, so they became acquainted in no time.
After a few drinks, some people gathered around Sheng Xiping, insisting on toasting him.
"Xiping, come, let me toast you. Among all of us, you are the one I admire the most."
When you were a sent-down youth, you were the team leader; after you started working, you became the factory manager; now that you're unemployed, you're doing better than anyone else.
A capable person will never be overlooked, no matter where they go. Come on, let's have a drink." Guo Yongping spoke first.
"Yes, yes, Yongping is right. Among the people in our forest farm, I admire you the most, not anyone else."
"Come on, count us in, let's toast Xiping." The other young men also raised their glasses, insisting on offering a toast.
Sheng Xiping was a little confused. "Today is Weimin's wedding. Why are you toasting me instead of Weimin?"
It's not appropriate for him to steal the spotlight at someone else's wedding.
"Weimin, he'll have to toast us later."
Since the work team gave us a break, we've all been quite busy and haven't had a chance to visit you and have a proper chat.
"Since it's an occasion like today, let's toast you a couple of times," the young men said with a smile.
When Sheng Xiping saw that the other party was sincerely offering a toast, he felt it wouldn't be right for him not to drink, so he had no choice but to drink.
As it turned out, once this started, many people came to Sheng Xiping for drinks, ostensibly to catch up after not seeing each other for a long time, but actually to try and get close to him.
"Xiping, do you see? They're all coming to get close to you, hoping you'll help them make money."
Wang Jianshe sat next to Sheng Xiping and whispered after a group of people left.
Sheng Xiping was well aware of what these people were up to. Making money with him wouldn't be so easy.
First, are they willing to give up their secure jobs? Even if they are, their families might not agree.
"My family is slaughtering a pig tomorrow, are you coming to help?" Sheng Xiping avoided the topic and changed the subject.
