Pei Jianhui clenched his fist and said to Wu Lanhua, "Aunt San, my mother felt dizzy and nauseous this morning and couldn't get up. I asked her to pick the flowers by herself but she refused, saying that it was an adult's job and how could she let a child do it? She even threw a pillow at my mother and told her to get out of here."
"Jianhui, stop talking. Your father hasn't woken up yet. He didn't mean it." Zhang Xiangyun explained to Pei Jianhui first.
Then he said to Wu Lanhua, "Third sister-in-law, please help fourth sister-in-law. I have picked enough grass leaves and sent them here..."
"Ouch! What happened?" Seeing Zhang Xiangyun fainted, Wu Lanhua quickly reached out to help support her.
As soon as she touched Zhang Xiangyun's body, Wu Lanhua noticed something was wrong. "Why is it so hot? Is she having a fever?"
She didn't even need to reach out to touch Zhang Xiangyun's forehead, because Zhang Xiangyun's whole body was burning.
"Quick, quick, Jianhui, help take the basket off your mother and help her get in."
Li Zhili also ran out when she heard the noise. After listening to Li Qing's analysis yesterday, she felt a little annoyed with Zhang Xiangyun and didn't want to come out. But when she heard that someone had fainted, she couldn't care less and came out to help the person into her and Li Qing's room.
When Ruan Niannian heard Wu Lanhua say that Zhang Xiangyun was feeling hot all over, she went back to her room to get medicine.
That was what Pei Yuanzheng had prepared in case something unexpected happened at home. He wrapped various medicines in newspapers with their functions written on them and placed them in a dry place.
The antipyretic drug is Analgin, which comes in large white pills with a bar in the middle to make it easy to divide it into two halves.
(Analgin was originally developed in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s, and was researched in Shanghai in 1952. It was widely used in China to reduce fever in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Many families would have it on hand. It was banned in 2020 due to its severe side effects.)
Ruan Niannian took out a pill and walked towards Li Zhili's room. "Third sister-in-law, this is the antipyretic medicine. Give it to Second sister-in-law quickly. Break half of it first. If the fever still hasn't gone down after a few hours, give her another half."
"Okay, you go out first. It's a mess in there and no one will bump into you." Wu Lanhua sent her out of the room and told her not to get close to the room, lest she be bumped into by people walking around in a hurry.
Ruan Niannian didn't add to the trouble. She delivered the medicine and went back to her room. Her presence outside would disturb them.
In the other room, Li Qing checked on Zhang Xiangyun's condition. After feeding her half a tablet of Analgin, she asked Wu Lanhua and Li Zhili to get some cold water to wipe Zhang Xiangyun's body to help reduce her fever, but the effect was minimal.
"I'll go call the barefoot doctor." Wu Lanhua said and was about to run out.
Li Qing stopped her and said, "Wait a minute. The barefoot doctor will probably just give you some medicine to reduce the fever. Do you have any liquor at home?"
"White wine? White wine... We don't have any. Yangzi in our family doesn't drink, and the fourth child doesn't like to drink much either. What should we do now?" Wu Lanhua was at a loss for a moment.
Pei Jianhui, who was sitting on the side, had been clenching his fists tightly. When he heard them talking about white wine, he suddenly said, "Aunt, can I have some Shaoxing wine?"
"Of course." Li Qing touched his head, "Jianhui, do you know where to buy soju?"
Pei Jianhui quickly said, "I know where it is. I'll go get it."
He ran out of the house, asked Ruan Niannian to borrow her bicycle, and then rode to the old house.
Pei Qingsong liked to drink and always had liquor at home. He liked to have a bowl of it during dinner after work. He would always be able to borrow some whenever he went.
Fortunately, he pestered Pei Guohui to teach him how to ride a bicycle, otherwise it would be a waste of time. He didn't want his mother to get into trouble at all.
Zhang Xiangyun was the only one in the family who was willing to take care of him and Pei Xiaodan. Pei Qingbai was almost a useless person now. He never went out except for eating, drinking, defecating and urinating. He also lost his temper every now and then, and whenever he lost his temper he would beat Zhang Xiangyun.
Pei Jianhui is just young. If he were older, he would have gone against Pei Qingbai long ago.
It was very quick to get to the old house by bicycle. When Li Jinhua heard about the situation, she gave it to Pei Jianhui without saying a word.
After Pei Jianhui left, she locked the door and ran towards Ruan Niannian.
When the children see that she is not at home, they will naturally run over here without any need for them to tell her.
I don’t know if it was the effect of the antipyretic medicine or if rubbing the body with liquor was indeed much more effective than cold water, but after a while, Zhang Xiangyun’s fever slowly subsided.
After she came to her senses, she thanked everyone and took Pei Jianhui home.
"Have breakfast before going back. It's too late to cook now. If you don't eat, Jianhui will have to eat too." Wu Lanhua kept her once.
In fact, she really wanted to tell you to go back by yourself and Jianhui to stay for breakfast.
But Pei Jianhui is a very sensible child. He would not let Zhang Xiangyun go back alone at this time. If Zhang Xiangyun was not allowed to stay, Pei Jianhui would definitely not stay either.
Zhang Xiangyun hesitated for a moment, but when Pei Jianhui pulled her hand, she immediately agreed to stay for breakfast.
After the meal, Wu Lanhua used Ruan Niannian's aluminum lunch box to make a box of meat porridge and asked Zhang Xiangyun to take it back for Pei Xiaodan to drink.
Zhang Xiangyun did not refuse, but just kept saying thank you.
After she left, Li Qing sighed and chatted with Wu Lanhua, "Your second sister-in-law is also pitiful."
"Who said it wasn't true? I met such a man." Her Yang Zi is still the best. He is handsome and motivated. He earns a lot of money and loves her.
Although Wu Lanhua said so, she was clear-headed in her heart. What did it have to do with her whether she was pitiful or not? There must be something hateful about pitiful people. If she had not done those things and said those words before, Wu Lanhua's sympathy for her would have been purer.
He might just be as naive as Li Zhili and just curse Pei Qingbai as a non-human.
