After discussing with my supervisor, I went to talk to her about this matter. We helped her solve the authorship issue and she came to the lab to help.
"No." She smiled and refused me. "If you can really help me solve the problem of authorship, I can come to help often in the future, but I have already chosen my favorite supervisor, and the topics he studies are what I am most interested in."
Since she said so, I naturally can't force her.
It is not easy for those of us who are engaged in scientific research to come across a topic of interest. Since she already has a teacher she likes, we naturally cannot hinder her from moving forward.
My supervisor kept his word and soon helped her solve the authorship problem. From then on, the neighboring laboratory began to dislike our laboratory.
Anyway, apart from manpower, they have nothing else to lend us. If we don't want to have any contact with them, then we don't have to. We can borrow manpower from other laboratories, but once human character is lost, it can't be recovered.
At that time, I really just admired that girl. I did not compromise at all even though I was in adversity. Even though I was pushed to the bottom, I still tried my best to do every little thing assigned to me.
Until later.
She finally entered the laboratory of her favorite mentor, and I discovered that her personality was completely different.
When she was helping in our lab before, she never laughed out loud. She would only smile slightly when she was greeting us.
At that time, I really thought that she was introverted, not good at communicating with others, and liked to solve any problems by herself and didn't like to talk to others.
It was purely by accident that I stumbled upon her true character.
Ever since the bad character of the people in the neighboring laboratory was exposed, we have rarely cooperated with them. Instead, we have cooperated more diligently with other laboratories. Her supervisor's research direction is indeed very novel, and he has asked us for help several times.
When my supervisor learned about this, he was very concerned and specially transferred our group over there.
The day I went to their laboratory, I heard her voice before I even reached the door. It was completely different from her usual gentle and reserved voice. She called on her senior brother to help her. After her senior brother put forward conditions, her voice was filled with coquettish anger.
But this had never happened before when I asked her for help.
Later, when I helped out in their laboratory, I found that she was really popular and she would take good care of everyone. She would remember clearly who's data would come out and when, who had been staying in the laboratory for several days without sleep, and who had been staring at the data and not going to eat during the shift change, and would take turns to let others rest or remind them to check the data.
How could such a person not be loved by the laboratory? I can say without hesitation that every laboratory is most in need of such talents who are serious and careful in their work.
Such people can not only avoid experimental errors to a great extent, but also help others keep an eye on experimental data and avoid losses for the entire laboratory.
During the half year when the laboratory was loaned out, we carefully helped them complete the experiment, which was indeed a very novel direction.
But what attracted me more was not the experiment, but her.
I felt that our team was lacking someone like her, so I wanted to bring her back. Before that, I sympathized and admired her, but for the team, I felt that this person was optional.
It’s different now, I feel like she’s especially suitable to be with me now.
At first, I jokingly asked her if she would like to come to our laboratory to experience it after the experiment is over.
She shook her head. "If you are too busy to lend it to me, I will definitely go. I don't need to change labs. Our lab is also very good. I can keep up with the progress and have more free time. I may not have it if I go to your place."
The reason is very sufficient and it doesn't count as a rejection for me.
I started to implement a roundabout way to save the country.
We all know that if we work in the laboratory and do not have good physical fitness, we may damage our bodies after an experiment.
So I asked her to go to the gym.
At first she rejected me. I remember she said, "I run every morning and night to ensure my physical strength. I have never been to a gym and I don't know how to use many fitness equipment."
She never pretends to be able to do something she can't do, nor does she make other excuses to cover it up. For her, being able to do something or not is a responsibility to herself, and there is no need to lie for the sake of face.
There are actually too many people around us who, for the sake of face, insist on having things that they clearly don't have, and insist on saying they can do things that they clearly can't do.
For this reason, my admiration for her deepened once again.
I changed the way to ask her out.
"What if it can be used in the future? You can choose not to go, but you have to learn it. Maybe our experiments will start to move in this direction someday. The patents of the equipment are also very profitable."
She hesitated for only a moment before agreeing to my request.
The first time I took her to the gym, she was really curious about everything. She wanted to try every piece of equipment and then guess the principles behind them. After guessing, she asked me whether she had guessed correctly.
For those of us who are engaged in physics experiments, many principles are very basic. If she really wants to guess, it is impossible for her to fail to do so.
I did not participate in the research and development of these equipment. When she was making her guesses, I would add a sentence or two at the right time. We might have some differences on some principles existing in some equipment.
Regarding these differences, we will make an appointment to analyze them together outside of our own experiments until we reach the correct conclusion and see who makes the more accurate guess.
