(Confession of the First Life)
I never thought that my mother would use the excuse that she was dying just to trick me into coming back and getting married.
After being tricked and sent home, I saw that my mother was in good spirits, so I didn't think much about it. I just thought that she was acting weird because she hadn't received the allowance I sent her in a long time.
I've been on a mission for several months and haven't sent her money or tickets for several months. It's no surprise that she's thinking about me. After all, she never gave me a good look before I went to the army. She only pretended to value me the most because I was honest and willing to send her money and tickets.
After lunch, I went to find her, prepared to give her the money and bills she deserved, and then returned to the army without even asking for a few days' leave.
Before I reached the door, I heard her talking to her elder and younger sisters-in-law inside.
"He doesn't come back for a year or two, and he's still single. How can the other brothers be respected by the village? The educated youth we found here is good-looking and well-educated. He will definitely be attracted to her."
It turns out that this was his plan. He wanted me to go on a blind date and keep my future wife at home. Wouldn't he be worried that I wouldn't send money back in the future?
My mother, what a good idea! I can't come back from the army, so you hold my wife hostage, starving her of food, water and living? Then can I not send money back on time?
When I thought about it this way, I was so angry that I thought, well, since you are so calculating, I will leave tonight and see where your abacus beads are going to fall.
In the middle of the night, I opened the door with my bag on my back, and a lump of something just fell down. I got defensive and kicked it, and it just hit my eldest brother in the chest.
The screams instantly filled the entire house, waking up everyone who was sleeping in the room.
"What's going on? What's going on?" My mother looked at my eldest brother with concern. That kind of concern was the real concern for her son. She felt sorry for him and was afraid that he would be upset.
I know my own strength. I can't use very much strength at home. I always hold back my force. It will only hurt for about ten minutes at most. There won't be any problem.
But everyone was awake, so it was really difficult to leave.
What I didn't expect was that my eldest brother was still crying out in pain for a while. My mother came over and said to me, "Fourth brother, you don't know how to stay at home. Your eldest brother is in a lot of pain. Let him rest for a few days and you can go to work for him."
What was going on? My eldest brother always valued brotherhood, and it was impossible for him to help my mother deal with me. Could it be that he was fooled by my mother?
I agreed to go to work in place of my eldest brother, thinking of finding an opportunity to ask him what was going on.
But my brother ignored me and kept avoiding me for the next two days. I realized something was wrong. My vacation time was getting shorter and shorter, and if I didn’t go back to report, I would be overdue.
But my mother kept holding me back by using my eldest brother's matter, insisting that he was seriously injured by me and wouldn't let me go.
I could only suggest taking my eldest brother to the hospital. "Mom, you say every day that my eldest brother is seriously injured. If he is really seriously injured, he should go to the hospital. If he stays at home like this, who knows what problems he might develop."
Seeing that I couldn't be held back any longer, I asked that educated youth to come to my house for a blind date.
The reason was very convincing. "Fourth brother, your three brothers are all married. Without you, there is no one left. You have to be my partner today. If you don't want to be my partner, I will go to your workplace to make trouble."
That was the first time I met my wife. She was really pretty and had a nice voice. No wonder I never had the idea of dating before. It turns out this is what I like.
But I can't be with her. If I stay with her, I will harm her. I will be away from home all year round and cannot take care of the family. I have to live with my sisters-in-law and my mother. Life will be very difficult.
And as long as she is at home, my family will have a hold over me and I will never be able to get out of her hands.
I don't know what I'm being stubborn about. After all, she's my mother. What's the harm if I give her all the money I earn? At most, she can just keep it for me.
But I always feel a little uneasy in my heart, always feeling that it is not the case, so I usually only send back more than half of my allowance, and secretly save the remaining half for myself, hoping that I will not have to use it, but if I can use it, it would be a great blessing.
After the blind date, I told my mother directly that I was not interested and asked her not to arrange any more arrangements with him.
My mother looked incredulous. "Fourth brother, do you know how long I have been looking for such a good girl for you? Not only do you not take the blind date seriously, but you also use this attitude to irritate me. You must tear my heart apart piece by piece, right?"
"Mom, what you said is too serious. I really don't like that Ruan Zhiqing." I tried to comfort him, then deliberately said, "How can I find a good wife in the countryside? Mom, I can tell you, there are many good girls out there, some more educated than Ruan Zhiqing, some prettier than Ruan Zhiqing, any kind you want? My mother's eyes started rolling around, and I could tell that what she was thinking was not a good idea.
Sure enough, after dinner, Ruan Zhiqing was fooled by her again and asked us to come in to chat. What was there to talk about? I told her directly, "I'm sorry, Ruan Zhiqing, I really don't like you, you don't need to come over again in the future."
I thought such a cold and direct rejection would make her leave.
Who knew that I felt a little dizzy after I finished speaking, and then I heard my mother shouting: "The eldest, the second, and the fourth are drunk, help him back to the house to rest for a while."
I struggled and resisted to go, but my eldest and second brothers dragged me back to the room.
