Zhou Bingqiang glared at his younger brother but remained silent.
Zhou Bingqiang was also ready to give up and leave the matter alone.
Zhou Bingqiang was afraid that if he went to the police station alone, Ding Ermei would ask him to find a way to get the person out.
Ding Ermei had no patience for anyone except Zhou Fugui. No matter how outrageous her demands were, she would start cursing anyone who went against her wishes.
Zhou Bingqiang didn't want to pay any money, and he didn't want to be scolded, so he could only hide.
As for whether Ding Ermei will go hungry?
His father and second brother don't care, so why does he care?
Besides, the police can't just stand by and watch Ding Ermei starve to death in the police station.
The Zhou brothers smiled awkwardly at each other, their eyes revealing a deep coldness.
At this moment, Zhou Bingxing's wife, Ding Xiaocui, came running into the house, panting.
"Bingxing, no...no good, I heard...our mother...has been arrested by the police." Ding Xiaocui said breathlessly when she saw Zhou Bingxing.
Ding Xiaocui went back to her parents' home today.
On her way back, Ding Xiaocui overheard the villagers gossiping and realized that something big had happened in her family in just half a day.
Ding Xiaocui forgot to take the half-basket of eggs she had brought back from her parents' home and hurriedly ran home.
"Yes. Dad went to town to try and rescue Mom, but he failed," Zhou Bingxing said dejectedly.
Although Zhou Bingxing was unwilling to spend money to bail out Ding Ermei.
However, he still had to express his grief in public about Ding Ermei's arrest, otherwise people would say he was unfilial.
Zhou Bingxing didn't want to ruin his reputation.
"What about Jiaxiang? Did he go home? Or was he arrested by the police along with Mom?" Ding Xiaocui asked cautiously after catching her breath.
Zhou Jiaxiang refused to go to his maternal grandmother's house with Ding Xiaocui today, saying that he wanted to go to the market in town with his paternal grandmother, Ding Ermei.
Ding Xiaocui was anxious about Ding Ermei's arrest, but what worried her most was the condition of her son, Zhou Jiaxiang.
"Pah, pah, pah! Jiaxiang didn't do anything wrong, why is the police arresting him?" Zhou Bingxing glared.
"Then... is Jiaxiang in the village?" Ding Xiaocui asked Zhou Bingxing with anticipation.
"I don't know, I didn't see that little brat in the village today," Zhou Bingxing said after a moment of surprise.
"Then what are you still doing at home? Hurry up and go look!" Ding Xiaocui pushed Zhou Bingxing and said, "I'll go check the brigade headquarters. You search all the way to the end of the village. We'll search and call out as we go."
“No, I didn’t say Jiaxiang was in the village! Didn’t he go to the market in town with Mom today? Maybe Jiaxiang is still in town and hasn’t come back yet?” Zhou Bingxing grabbed Ding Xiaocui, who was about to rush out the door, and said.
“You search in the village, I’ll search in the town,” Ding Xiaocui decided immediately.
"Don't worry, let's go ask Dad first if he saw Jiaxiang in town today." After saying that, Zhou Bingxing immediately ran to Zhou Fugui's door and called out repeatedly, "Dad, Dad, are you awake? Dad, did you see Jiaxiang in town today? Jiaxiang wasn't arrested, was he?"
Zhou Fugui walked out with a gloomy face.
Zhou Fugui had long forgotten about his grandson Zhou Jiaxiang.
However, to avoid being blamed by his son and daughter-in-law, Zhou Fugui preemptively retorted, "What have you two been doing all day? You can't even take care of a child properly. What's the use of asking me now that you can't find anyone?"
Zhou Bingxing and Ding Xiaocui exchanged a glance.
Two seconds later, the two of them walked out the door at the same time.
Instead of arguing with Zhou Fugui about "whose fault it is," they should hurry up and go find their child.
Meanwhile, on Zhou Jiaxiang's side...
After being slapped by Ding Ermei at the wonton stall in a fit of anger, Zhou Jiaxiang was so furious that his lungs felt like they were about to explode. He stormed out of the wonton stall with his head down.
Zhou Jiaxiang wanted to go home; he wanted to complain to his parents about his grandmother's unreasonable behavior.
In his anger, Zhou Jiaxiang stopped paying attention to his surroundings and just kept his head down, staring at the road beneath his feet as he ran.
Not long after, Zhou Jiaxiang realized he was lost.
Zhou Jiaxiang always came to town with adults, and he hadn't been there many times.
In those days, if a village child could come to town and not buy anything, they would be the envy of all the other children in the village.
In the past, when Zhou Jiaxiang came to town, he only looked at all the delicious food and fun things.
Knowing the way? There are adults with you! Just stay with the adults, you definitely won't get lost.
Today, Zhou Jiaxiang stood alone in an unfamiliar alley, filled with regret and wanting to cry.
Just as Zhou Jiaxiang was looking around blankly, he heard a commotion coming from ahead.
Zhou Jiaxiang quietly walked to the corner of the wall and peeked out.
Two girls, around sixteen or seventeen years old, were stopped by two young men in an alley.
A girl with a round face, short hair, and a pair of big, round eyes.
The other girl had a long face, almond-shaped eyes, and wore two shiny black braids with two red ribbons tied at the ends.
"Get out of the way, you two filthy hooligans, get out of the way right now, or we'll call the police!" The girl with phoenix eyes glared at the two young men, her tone full of disgust.
"If...if you don't move aside, we...we'll call the police." The round-faced girl stammered, whether from fear or something else.
The young man standing in front of the girl with almond-shaped eyes was tall and thin, about 1.7 meters tall. He wore a pair of black-rimmed glasses.
The other young man was fair-skinned and chubby, but a bit short, about 1.6 meters tall.
The chubby young man had a big smile on his face, which made his already small eyes squint into slits.
