Chapter 21
At the dinner table, Mu Qianqian bit her lip and mustered up the courage to pick up some food for Cui Lirong.
"Aunt, try this, it's really delicious."
Cui Lirong didn't appreciate it at all and said coldly, "Qingxuan cooked the dish. You've been lazy all morning, so why are you looking for praise now?"
The smile on Mu Qianqian's lips froze instantly. She clenched the chopsticks in her hand awkwardly and explained in a hushed voice, "...I'm not being lazy."
"I can testify to this. Qianqian has been talking to me and making me happy. How can this be considered as being lazy?"
Old Mrs. Huo was not happy with her daughter-in-law always making things difficult for Mu Qianqian, and she rolled her eyes at Cui Lirong.
That look on your face shows that you are not respectful to me, but do you not allow others to be respectful to me?
Cui Lirong opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but swallowed it back.
She saw Mu Qingxuan sitting aside, drinking a bowl of lotus root and pork ribs soup quietly without saying a word.
The girl's porcelain-white face was covered with beads of sweat, her cheeks were red, and her eyes were tired.
It was obvious that it was Mu Qingxuan who prepared a large table of food, but in the end it was Mu Qianqian, who had always been lazy, who received the praise from Old Mrs. Huo.
This matter would be uncomfortable for anyone.
Cui Lirong couldn't help but feel distressed. She sighed and handed over a clean handkerchief: "Qingxuan, wipe the sweat."
As he spoke, he picked up another piece of braised pork for Mu Qingxuan, "You cooked the dish yourself, why don't you eat more?"
Cui Lirong placed a strong emphasis on the word "self" to emphasize her attitude.
Mu Qingxuan was stunned, then smiled gratefully and said, "Thank you, Mom."
She had been in the kitchen for the whole morning and was almost fed up with the smell of cooking fumes, so she had no appetite for food.
Unexpectedly, her mother-in-law Cui Lirong mistakenly thought that she was irritated by Mrs. Huo’s partial attitude and was so sad that she couldn’t eat.
Mu Qingxuan found it a little funny.
Even someone at Mu Qianqian's level can't stimulate her enough.
When Mrs. Huo saw that Cui Lirong only picked food for Mu Qingxuan but deliberately ignored Mu Qianqian, she immediately became unhappy.
The old lady squinted her eyes and frowned as she picked up a piece of the fattest and largest braised pork for Mu Qianqian and asked with concern, "Qianqian, why are you only eating shredded potatoes? Eat more meat, you're too thin now."
Mu Qianqian was stunned and forced a smile on her face that was uglier than crying.
"Thank you, grandma."
She looked at the braised pork in the bowl in embarrassment, not knowing whether to eat it or not.
I ate it and was worried that I would be poisoned.
If I don't eat, I'm afraid of making Old Mrs. Huo unhappy, and all the previous work will be in vain.
Mu Qianqian frowned and hesitated for a long time, but finally put the piece of braised pork back into Mrs. Huo's bowl.
"Grandma, this piece of meat is the biggest, so I'll give it to you."
As long as Old Madam Huo was poisoned, Mu Qingxuan would be the only one responsible. Who would care whether she ate meat or not?
Mu Qianqian's eyes dimmed as she thought so, then she picked up a few more shredded potatoes into the bowl and began to eat slowly.
Cui Lirong tasted the fish and was pleasantly surprised: "Qingxuan, how did you cook this fish? It's so fresh."
"Steam it. This kind of fish cannot be braised, otherwise it will lose its original flavor." Mu Qingxuan explained her method in detail, and then said, "I didn't add onions and garlic for seasoning. Instead, I cut open the fish belly in advance and added some health-preserving herbs."
"You can't even taste the medicine like this. Qingxuan, you can apply for a first-class chef position at a state-owned restaurant with your cooking skills."
Cui Lirong couldn't help but praise her, and then said, "When you have time, you can teach Wang Ma more, so that you don't have to go into the kitchen all the time, which is too tiring."
Mother Wang spoke at the right time: "Qingxuan girl, if you teach me, I can help you share some of the burden when the time comes."
Mu Qingxuan felt warm in her heart and nodded obediently: "Okay, thank you mom, thank you Wang Ma."
The more Cui Lirong looked at Mu Qingxuan, the more satisfied she felt.
She accidentally caught a glimpse of Mu Qianqian who was just concentrating on eating. Her tone instantly turned cold and she murmured in a low voice: "I think my wife is good in every way. She is much better than some fake people who only talk but don't do anything."
Mu Qianqian paused, realizing that Cui Lirong was making innuendos and making veiled accusations, and she became extremely angry.
She calculated the time and began to get anxious.
The Huo family has been eating for so long, how come nothing happened?
Just then, a scream suddenly rang out.
Mu Qianqian looked up suddenly and saw Aunt Wang covering her mouth with a look of agony, moaning in pain.
Aunt Wang frowned tightly, her entire face was wrinkled, beads of cold sweat oozed from her forehead, and her cheeks had lost all color.
Mu Qianqian's eyes lit up.
It's time!
Mrs. Huo looked up and frowned: "What happened?"
Mother Wang hesitated: "I, I feel a little uncomfortable..."
Mu Qianqian's eyes suddenly widened in shock, and she looked at Mu Qingxuan in disbelief: "Sister, is there something wrong with the dish you cooked?"
"...I just entered the kitchen and saw that my sister deliberately knocked over the salt jar and then turned on the faucet, flushing away all the salt. Is there something wrong with the cooking salt, so you are in a hurry to destroy the body?"
Mu Qianqian covered her mouth with her hands, looking as if the sky had fallen: "Sister, how could you do such a thing? Uncle, aunt, and grandma are all so good to you..."
"Qianqian, what are you talking about?"
Mu Qingxuan looked puzzled, her brows slightly wrinkled, her originally rosy lips slightly opened, as if there were thousands of words stuck in her throat: "Why can't I understand what you are saying?"
Mu Qianqian gritted her teeth and continued, "If the salt wasn't a problem, then why did you destroy the body, and why is Wang Ma suddenly in pain now?"
"Sister, even though you are my biological sister, I can't keep this secret for you. Otherwise, wouldn't I be watching you go astray?"
Mu Qianqian spoke with tears in her eyes, acting like a good sister who cares about her sister.
Those who didn’t know would think that Mu Qingxuan had really committed an unforgivable sin.
And she, Mu Qianqian, is the kind-hearted person who has been advising Mu Qingxuan to lay down her butcher knife and become a Buddha right away.
Old Mrs. Huo also looked at Aunt Wang in doubt and uncertainty: "You've been poisoned? Then call 120 and send her to the military hospital!"
Huo Jianye slammed the table, stood up, rushed into the kitchen, picked up the salt shaker and checked it.
Being well-informed, he could tell at a glance that something was wrong with the salt in the jar.
Huo Jianye's expression became serious. He poured the light yellow crystal particles into his palm, rubbed them and examined them, and said, "This is nitrite, an industrial salt composed of sodium nitrite."
"Sodium nitrite is highly toxic. Even if ordinary people ingest a small amount, they will be poisoned and experience symptoms such as dizziness and vomiting."
As soon as Huo Jianye finished speaking, Wang Ma, who had been covering her mouth, suddenly retched.
Wang Ma's reaction just confirmed what Huo Jianye said.
In an instant, everyone in the Huo family focused their attention on Mu Qingxuan.
