Chapter 72
The sky gradually darkened and the street lights lit up one by one.
Huo Changfeng didn't even have time to eat a bite of food or drink a sip of water, he just kept driving forward.
The needle on the dashboard was jumping wildly. The car was going so fast that the chassis was shaking violently on the uneven road, shaking his hands numb.
But he didn't care at all.
Finally, he arrived at the territory of Yongyu.
Huo Changfeng breathed a sigh of relief, but his heart tightened again when he thought that Mu Qingxuan was still missing.
He stepped on the accelerator and sped towards Yongyu Hotel where the seminar was held.
At the entrance of Yongyu Hotel, neon lights are flashing and many people are coming in and out.
Huo Changfeng parked the car casually on the side of the road, opened the door and rushed out.
He only had two buttons on his coat, his tie was askew, and his hair was blown messy by the wind. He looked dusty and in a very dishevelled state.
He strode into the hotel lobby and quickly scanned the crowd.
Finally, he saw Zhuang Pingchun, who was wearing a navy blue tweed jacket and was standing aside and talking with a few people.
Huo Changfeng stepped forward and said, "Professor Zhuang, is Xuanxuan here?"
His eyes, as cold as a pond, stared straight at Zhuang Pingchun, his thin lips slightly parted.
"Director Huo?"
Zhuang Pingchun, who was discussing acupuncture experiences with an old friend, couldn't help but show surprise on his face when he saw Huo Changfeng, who looked tired and anxious.
"Where is Xuanxuan?"
He asked again, his voice carrying a chill wind that made Zhuang Pingchun drop the meeting materials in his hand to the ground.
Zhuang Pingchun looked at the man in front of him with a stern aura, and cold sweat couldn't help but seep out of the back of his neck.
"Director Huo? Why did you suddenly... I haven't seen Qingxuan. Is she still on the way?"
Huo Changfeng raised his hand to look at his watch, and the hand pointing to 7 made his temples throb.
“It takes two hours to drive from the capital to Yongyu.”
His Adam's apple rolled, and his knuckles turned white. "She left at 8 o'clock in the morning, but now it's 7 o'clock in the evening..."
Zhuang Pingchun's face suddenly changed, and his carefully drawn eyebrows twisted into a knot: "Impossible! The one who sent her was Mr. Lu from the hospital, and he drove very steadily..."
"teacher?"
Huo Changfeng suddenly approached, and the scent of cedar wrapped in a sense of oppression hit him in the face.
A little anger was burning in his heart.
The person who brought Mu Qingxuan here was just an ordinary teacher, not a professional driver!
Zhuang Pingchun subconsciously took a half step back, his pupils shrinking slightly.
The pen slipped from his fingers and fell to the ground with a "plop".
Suddenly, she slapped her forehead and her voice changed: "I, I will contact Mr. Lu immediately! He is the person in charge of this trip!"
Huo Changfeng's Adam's apple rolled, his knuckles turned white from being pinched, and the skin on the joints was tightened due to the force.
"Xuanxuan is my daughter-in-law."
His voice was terribly hoarse, and his eyes behind the lenses were fixed on Zhuang Pingchun.
"She was just a weak lesbian, pregnant, and she was missing for twelve hours..."
With every word he spoke, his chest heaved violently, as if he would lose control in the next second.
Zhuang Pingchun's lips trembled, and he was about to open his mouth to defend himself, but was blocked by Huo Changfeng's oppressive gaze.
She was so anxious that she was spinning in place, and her heels made a panicked sound on the marble floor.
"Director Huo, don't worry too much. This is a peaceful society, nothing will happen..."
Her voice became smaller and smaller, and even she felt that she lacked confidence.
Huo Changfeng glanced at her coldly, and that look seemed to be able to freeze people.
When he turned around, the hem of his white coat created a gust of wind, which knocked the remaining documents on the table to the ground.
Only Zhuang Pingchun was left standing there in the corridor, staring at his back as he walked away. The cold sweat on the back of his neck soaked his collar, and his heart was beating wildly in his chest.
The dusk soaked the asphalt road like thick ink. Huo Changfeng's 212 jeep was speeding on the winding provincial road. The sound of the wheels rolling over gravel mixed with his rapid breathing.
The green light from the dashboard made his face turn blue, and his knuckles were tightly gripping the steering wheel, turning white as frost.
When passing every bend, he subconsciously looked to the side of the road, scanning every car passing by until the corners of his eyes became sore and swollen.
Finally, on a winding mountain road 30 kilometers away from Yongyu County, the outline of a gray car caught my eye.
The car body was leaning crookedly against the roadbed, and mud was splashed all over it, as if it had just struggled out of a quagmire.
Huo Changfeng's heart suddenly rose to his throat and he stepped on the brakes.
The jeep left long tire tracks on the gravel road, stretching across the front of the sedan, and the dust it raised obscured the view.
When he pushed open the car door, the metal handle was still scorching hot.
His legs walked towards the car almost mechanically, the hem of his white coat lifted by the mountain breeze, revealing the sweaty shirt underneath.
My throat was dry and tight, and all the words were stuck in it. Only the pounding heartbeat made my eardrums hurt.
Just as I was about to raise my hand to knock on the car window, the back door of the car was suddenly pushed open, and the familiar scent of roses mixed with Chinese medicine hit me in the face.
Mu Qingxuan stumbled into his arms, her hair brushing against his hot neck.
Huo Changfeng's arms tightened reflexively, holding her tightly to his chest, his nose buried in her wet hair.
"Why are you here?"
When Mu Qingxuan raised her face, there were still tiny raindrops on her eyelashes, gleaming faintly in the twilight.
Huo Changfeng's palms trembled as he stroked her back and waistline, and finally held her face.
His thumb gently stroked her flushed cheek, as if to make sure this wasn't a dream.
"I came home today and saw that you were not there. Aunt Wang told me that you came to Yongyu on a business trip alone, so I was a little worried..."
Huo Changfeng's voice was very hoarse.
He saved himself the trouble of running back and forth to look for Mu Qingxuan and explained it concisely.
Huo Changfeng rested his forehead against Mu Qingxuan's, their noses touching and their breaths intertwined.
"Luckily you're okay."
The rest of the words were swallowed back into his throat, and he lowered his head and kissed the trembling lips hard.
Trying to calm his pounding heart in this way.
Mu Qingxuan's fingers plucked his wrinkled collar, and her fingertips touched the undried cold sweat on the back of his neck.
I understood it.
Huo Changfeng must have suffered a lot before coming here.
Thinking of this, Mu Qingxuan's heart softened.
She responded boldly to Huo Changfeng's actions.
But suddenly, a cool breeze blew.
Mu Qingxuan's body trembled uncontrollably, and she subconsciously shrank back into Huo Changfeng's warm embrace.
Noticing her trembling, Huo Changfeng finally loosened his grip a little, but still refused to distance himself.
Their noses touched, and his warm breath brushed against her wet lips: "Are you cold?"
After saying that, he gently bit her lower lip again.
Mu Qingxuan nodded and muttered, "A little bit."
She snuggled into Huo Changfeng's arms, her little face pressed tightly against his hard chest and muscles, rubbing against them hard.
Huo Changfeng hugged her tightly in his arms as if he had found a lost treasure.
The two of them were in such an intimate posture, as if they had their own isolated space.
But suddenly, a strange sound broke the silence.
