Chapter 84
When Huo Changfeng walked out of the ward, he lowered his eyes slightly and put Lu Zetao's ugly and begging appearance behind him.
The metal handle that opened the ward door still retained body temperature, but Huo Changfeng's pupils suddenly shrank the moment he turned around.
At the end of the corridor, Mu Qingxuan's pale face was pressed against the blue-gray wall, her slender fingers tightly gripping the edge of the wall, and her thin shoulders heaving violently.
The disinfectant mixed with the faint scent of mugwort on her body exploded at the tip of his nose.
"Xuan Xuan!"
He rushed forward in two steps, and the wind from his black jacket wrapped her in his body temperature.
His bony fingers clasped her cold wrist, and his voice trembled: "Where do you feel uncomfortable?"
As soon as Mu Qingxuan uttered the word "I", the sour feeling in her throat came back again.
She suddenly covered her mouth and turned sideways, bending into a fragile arc.
Huo Changfeng's heart tightened instantly, and his fingertips unconsciously stroked the pulse on her wrist, feeling the weak but regular beat.
The next second, he directly wrapped one arm around her knees, supported her back with the other hand, and lifted her up steadily.
Mu Qingxuan exclaimed and subconsciously hugged his neck, with the ends of her hair brushing against his hot earlobes.
Huo Changfeng carried her and rushed to the obstetrics and gynecology department, his footsteps making the floor tiles creak.
The person in his arms was incredibly light, and he was so anxious that he had trouble breathing.
When registering, paying the fee, and holding her in the waiting area, Huo Changfeng always held Mu Qingxuan in his arms, his chin resting on the top of her head, his voice muffled between her hair.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here."
While waiting for the consultation, Huo Changfeng reluctantly put Mu Qingxuan on the stool and went to get a cup of hot water.
Mu Qingxuan looked at him with a look of fear and said, "I just have morning sickness."
“It’s a normal phenomenon.”
Huo Changfeng was still worried.
He held the cup of warm water he had just received, his fingertips still stained with water droplets from the wall of the cup, and his Adam's apple rolled.
"How can it be normal to vomit like this?"
He half-knelt in front of her and carefully handed the cup of water to her lips, while his other hand loosely supported her back, fearing that she would not be able to sit steadily.
The moment the warm water slid down her throat, Mu Qingxuan finally recovered.
She looked at the man in front of her with his brows furrowed into a "川" shape and the thin layer of sweat oozing from his temples, and her heart was filled with ripples.
Huo Changfeng had already carefully placed his palm on her lower abdomen, his eyelashes casting tiny shadows under his eyes, and his voice was extremely soft.
"Is the baby bothering you?"
"It's not time for the fetus to move yet."
Mu Qingxuan couldn't help but chuckle, and tapped his forehead with her fingertips: "You can stay calm despite so many major and difficult projects in the institute, but why are you so anxious now?"
Her eyes swept across his red ears, and suddenly she noticed that his forehead was covered in sweat and he looked a little disheveled.
Huo Changfeng's ears turned red, but he stubbornly held her hand and pressed it against his chest: "Seeing you in pain, how can I not be nervous?"
"When this child is born, I must take good care of him..."
His words came to an abrupt halt because Mu Qingxuan suddenly leaned in close, her warm breath brushing across the corner of his lips: "How can you be such a father? You are so fierce, and you are already thinking about teaching someone a lesson before the child is even born."
The moment their eyes met, the air seemed to become sticky.
Huo Changfeng looked at the smile in her eyes, his Adam's apple rolling: "I am your husband first."
"The second is the child's father."
When he leaned over, the scent of mint mixed with cedar enveloped her: "Taking good care of you is the most important thing."
These words were spoken very slowly, as if to engrave every word into her heart.
Mu Qingxuan looked at his eyes so close to her, and suddenly she felt her heartbeat hurt her eardrums, which was more frightening than the discomfort she felt during morning sickness.
Fortunately, the nurse's call disrupted the increasingly ambiguous atmosphere.
"Is Comrade Mu Qingxuan here?"
Huo Changfeng hurriedly helped Mu Qingxuan up, his palms pressed against her lower back, his fingertips gently rubbing her through her sweater, as if to pass on his body warmth to her continuously.
When he pushed open the door of the obstetrics and gynecology clinic, the scent of disinfectant mixed with a faint lavender scent hit him in the face, and he subconsciously pulled her to his side.
Mu Qingxuan lowered her head, her hair covering her flushed cheeks. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of dust stains on Huo Changfeng's knees from running with her in his arms just now.
"Sit down."
The doctor wearing black-framed glasses clipped the ultrasound film onto the light box; the warm yellow light reflected her gentle smile.
Before she could speak, Huo Changfeng half leaned forward and asked anxiously, "Doctor, Xuanxuan vomited a lot just now. Is there something wrong with her body?"
His voice trembled slightly, and his eyes were fixed on the medical record in the doctor's hand.
The doctor pushed up his glasses, and his eyes couldn't be seen clearly under the reflection of the lenses: "Is this your first child?"
Mu Qingxuan nodded slightly.
Huo Changfeng's Adam's apple rolled, and he unconsciously held her cold hand, stroking the back of her hand with his thumb again and again.
"It's normal to have morning sickness with your first child."
The doctor took out a pen and scribbled in the medical record: "As long as it doesn't affect your eating and resting, don't be too nervous."
When she looked up, she happened to see Huo Changfeng's eyebrows twisted into a "川" shape, and she couldn't help but laugh.
All new parents are like this.
She sees several unfamiliar dads like Huo Changfeng almost every day.
As he spoke, the doctor thoughtfully added a few dietary taboos, and the tip of his pen drew a neat arc on the paper.
Then, the doctor suddenly remembered something and said casually, "You are more than three months pregnant. You can have sex normally, but you must be moderate and use proper posture."
The tip of the pen stopped on the paper, and the air in the clinic froze instantly.
Mu Qingxuan looked up suddenly and met Huo Changfeng's equally frightened gaze.
The tips of their ears turned red at a speed visible to the naked eye, like two burning clouds.
Huo Changfeng's throat tightened and a light cough broke the silence.
He caught a glimpse of Mu Qingxuan's eyelashes trembling wildly, and even her earlobes were stained crimson. He swallowed back the question that was about to come to his lips.
Huo Changfeng's fingers gently scratched her palm, and when he felt the strength of her pinching back, he spoke hoarsely: "Then...is there anything else I should pay attention to?"
The doctor seemed to see through the embarrassment of the two people, and a meaningful smile appeared on the corner of his lips.
She slowly talked about the precautions of calcium supplementation.
Huo Changfeng kept his back tense the entire time, and even his breathing became cautious.
Even after walking out of the clinic, Huo Changfeng remained in a stiff posture with deep eyes.
Mu Qingxuan squeezed his hand and said threateningly, "What are you thinking about?"
Just as Huo Changfeng was about to speak, Mu Qingxuan glared at him fiercely.
"Don't think about those things."
Mu Qingxuan's face became redder and redder.
She is a Chinese medicine practitioner and knows everything about pregnancy. Of course, she also knows about that matter.
But she knew it herself, but the feeling was completely different when it was said to her face by outsiders.
