Chapter 45 Lu Tingxiao is injured

Chapter 45 Lu Tingxiao is injured

After Lu Tingxiao left for his mission, Jiang Ruoxi spent her days leisurely at first. She would either curl up on the sofa, flipping through books that she hadn't touched for a long time; or sit in the kitchen filled with sunshine, carefully cooking dishes that they both loved, occasionally humming a few cheerful little songs, looking forward to Lu Tingxiao's return so that she could share these trivial yet warm daily moments in her life with him.

But as Lu Tingxiao's mission lasted longer and longer, his life, which was originally filled with comfort, was gradually eroded by anxiety.

Whenever the sun sets and darkness covers the earth, she would habitually look out the window, her eyes filled with anxiety and worry. In her heart, she silently calculated the days until Lu Tingxiao left, and speculated about his safety at this moment.

That day, Jiang Ruoxi was sitting at the dining table, in front of her was a plate of her favorite steamed fish. The fresh and tender fish meat exuded an enticing aroma, but just as she picked up a piece of fish with chopsticks and put it into her mouth, before she had time to chew it carefully, she was suddenly hit by a feeling of nausea.

She quickly covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom. A bout of dry heaving made her face pale and beads of sweat oozed from her forehead. After the discomfort passed, Jiang Ruoxi slowly stood up and looked at herself in the mirror, looking a little haggard. The uneasiness in her heart became more intense.

She couldn't help but start to wonder if there was something wrong with her body? Or did Lu Tingxiao encounter some misfortune while on a mission far away? This groundless speculation was like an invisible net that bound her tightly, making her even more eager for Lu Tingxiao to return safely and give her a reassuring hug.

As the days passed, Jiang Ruoxi's uneasiness spread like wild weeds. The sunlight shone in the yard, casting mottled light and shadows, but she had no intention of appreciating this peaceful and beautiful scenery.

She sat on the recliner, holding a book in her hands, but her eyes just mechanically scanned the pages. Her mind was not on the densely packed words at all, but was filled with concern for Lu Tingxiao.

Just then, an urgent knock on the door suddenly sounded, breaking the dull silence. Jiang Ruoxi stood up suddenly, and the book fell to the ground with a "bang". She didn't bother to pick up the book and rushed to the door.

The moment the door opened, Lu Tingxiao's orderly Wang Zhendong was seen standing at the door with an anxious look on his face, panting.

"Sister-in-law, come with me quickly, Lu Tuan is injured!" Wang Zhendong's voice was filled with panic that was difficult to conceal.

Jiang Ruoxi felt a buzzing sound in her head, her body swayed, and she almost lost her balance. Her lips trembled slightly, and she wanted to ask something, but found that her throat seemed to be blocked and she couldn't make a sound.

"How could this happen...How is your Captain Lu?" After a while, Jiang Ruoxi found her voice and asked anxiously.

"The situation is not good. Sister-in-law, don't worry. I'll tell you on the way." Wang Zhendong said as he pulled Jiang Ruoxi towards the car.

Jiang Ruoxi took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and followed Wang Zhendong into the car with staggering but firm steps.

Along the way, the car sped along the road and the scenery outside the window passed by quickly like a phantom, but Jiang Ruoxi's eyes were filled with only anxiety and worry, and she had no intention of caring at all. Wang Zhendong sat in the co-pilot seat, turned sideways, and quickly and briefly described the unexpected situation of the mission.

"Sister-in-law, this mission went very smoothly at the beginning. The brothers cooperated well and successfully controlled most of the enemies as planned. We were just waiting to withdraw. Who could have thought that the cunning guy would suddenly break free from our control at the critical moment of being captured, like a wolf desperately escaping from a trap. He took out a gun from somewhere and pulled the trigger at Xiao Li who was closest to him!" Wang Zhendong's voice trembled unconsciously when he recalled the thrilling scene at that time.

Jiang Ruoxi's face turned pale when she heard this. She clutched the corner of her clothes tightly with both hands, and her knuckles turned white from the force, as if the bullet would hit her heart at any time.

"At the critical moment, Captain Lu was quick-witted and rushed towards Xiao Li without thinking, pushing him away. But he himself was unable to dodge, and the bullet went straight through his chest." At this point, Wang Zhendong's voice choked, his heart full of admiration and guilt for Lu Tingxiao.

Jiang Ruoxi's eyes were instantly filled with tears, and tears as big as beans rolled down her cheeks. Her lips trembled as she murmured, "How could this happen... He must be fine... He promised me, he can't go back on his word!"

Wang Zhendong listened to Jiang Ruoxi's mumblings with mixed feelings. If they were stronger and smarter, Captain Lu would not have been injured, and his sister-in-law would not have been so sad!

The car finally arrived at the hospital. Before it stopped completely, Jiang Ruoxi couldn't wait to open the door and rushed out. She ran all the way towards the operating room, her steps staggering. Lu Tingxiao's figure kept appearing in her mind, and the wonderful times they spent together flashed before her eyes like a revolving lantern.

At the door of the operating room, Jiang Ruoxi stood there in a daze, staring at the tightly closed door, as if she wanted to see through it and confirm with her own eyes whether Lu Tingxiao was safe or not.

Fine beads of sweat oozed from Jiang Ruoxi's forehead, soaking a few strands of hair. She was shrouded in great fear and helplessness. She kept praying in her heart and paced anxiously outside the door, staring at the door, hoping that Lu Tingxiao could survive this disaster safely.

At this moment, she could only wait for the judgment of fate and wait for the safe return of the man who depended on her for life and death.

Every passing second seemed to be grinding hard on Jiang Ruoxi's heart. The pale light sprinkled on her without any warmth, stretching her lonely and helpless figure.

The door of the operating room seemed like an insurmountable barrier between life and death, separating her and Lu Tingxiao.

She paced back and forth mechanically in the corridor, and the slight sound of her soles rubbing against the ground was infinitely amplified in this silent and depressing space.

Sometimes she stopped, clenching the corners of her clothes tightly with both hands, her knuckles turning white due to the force; sometimes she raised her head and stared straight at the closed door, as if by doing so she could penetrate the obstacles and see what was going on inside.

Everything around her became blurry and unreal. The hurried footsteps of the nurses and the ticking sounds of instruments in the distance were like distant echoes that could not enter her consciousness. In her world, the only thing left was this tightly closed door and Lu Tingxiao, whose life or death was unknown behind the door.

Jiang Ruoxi's mind kept flashing back to every little moment she had spent with Lu Tingxiao: the first time they watched a movie together; when he went to her adoptive parents' house to support her; and the casual glances and tacit smiles they had during those ordinary days... These memories were her only comfort at the moment, but they also made her more afraid of losing them.

She kept repeating in her heart, "Lu Tingxiao, you must be safe. I'm still waiting for you. We still have so much to go through together in the future... We don't have children yet, and we haven't grown old together yet!" As time passed, her legs began to weaken and her body trembled slightly, but she still held on and refused to sit down, for fear of missing the moment when the operating room door opened.

After a long and painful moment, the tightly closed door of the operating room finally swayed slowly, making a slight sound. Jiang Ruoxi suddenly raised her head, and her eyes instantly focused on the door, as if a dried-up traveler had seen the fountain of life.

The door slowly opened and the doctor came out first. He was still tired from the operation but his face showed relief at having survived. Jiang Ruoxi rushed forward, eager to find out Lu Tingxiao's condition from the doctor's expression and words.

"Captain Lu is out of danger for the time being. As long as he doesn't have a fever tonight, he will have passed the critical period." The doctor's voice was not loud, but it was as clear as a bell in the silent corridor.

Jiang Ruoxi's tense nerves relaxed instantly, her legs went limp, and she almost collapsed to the ground. She quickly held onto the wall next to her, her palms full of cold sweat, and tears mixed with nervousness and joy welled up in her eyes again.

"Thank you, thank you so much!" She choked with sobs, her voice full of relief for surviving the disaster and gratitude to the doctor.

"You're welcome. This is what we should do. We'll strengthen the care for the next two days. As long as Captain Lu doesn't have a fever, it's a good thing!"

Afterwards, Lu Tingxiao was pushed out. His face was as pale as paper, his bloodless lips were slightly cracked, his body was full of various tubes, and he lay quietly on the hospital bed, as if he had just fallen into a deep sleep.

Jiang Ruoxi gently held his hands. Her hands were still broad and strong, but now they were so cold that it made people feel distressed.

"Tingxiao, did you hear that? You're okay, we've made it through..." She whispered softly in his ear, as if she was telling him something, or comforting him.

After being pushed into the ward, Jiang Ruoxi refused to leave his side for a moment. She sat on the edge of the bed, gently wiping the sweat from his forehead, staring at him intently, afraid to miss any of his subtle reactions.

Outside the window, the night gradually deepens. In the ward, the ticking sounds of the instruments become the most soothing melody at the moment. Jiang Ruoxi looked at Lu Tingxiao and prayed silently in her heart, "Please don't get a fever tonight. Make sure you get through the critical period safely. In the future, we will never be separated again."
