Side Story 6: Evidence World in the 1950s 5
As expected, Xiao Hua deliberately didn't fill the soil properly. The next morning, the Huang couple had just gotten out of bed when they saw the soil under their feet had been turned over.
Yan Xiangping craned her neck to look under the bed, cursing, "Has that damned rat gone mad? Look what it's done to us!"
Huang Dajun stepped on the soil and found it to be very loose: "It's not rats, it looks like someone turned it over."
He took a shovel from the yard, the kind he usually used to shovel garbage. He stuck the shovel under the bed and dug around a few times, finding that he had dug a bit too deep. His heart started to pound.
Everything was fine last night, so who would be digging under his bed in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?
He had a bad feeling, and with a gloomy expression, he continued to dig. Soon, a human hand was revealed.
Huang Dajun: !!!
His face changed drastically, and he immediately threw down the shovel. Yan Xiangping was even more terrified and screamed, "Ahhhhh!! Old Huang, someone!! Murder! Murder! Ahhhhh!!"
Huang Dajun suddenly realized what was happening, rushed over and covered her mouth, saying fiercely, "Shut up! Stop shouting!"
Yan Xiangping was so frightened that she almost lost her mind. She looked at him in horror and exclaimed, "It was you! You killed someone?!"
Huang Dajun really wanted to strangle this idiot: "What nonsense are you spouting? Are you trying to kill me?!"
Yan Xiangping was still somewhat suspicious: "Then why did you tell me to shut up?"
Huang Dajun was so angry he almost couldn't catch his breath: "Do you think I'd let you yell your way out of the whole world? You dug someone up from under our bed, do you think the police would believe it has nothing to do with us?!"
Yan Xiangping finally lost her fear and cursed in a low voice, "Who did this? It's so despicable! How could they... Wait a minute, everything was fine last night. How was this person buried? When was it buried?"
"How should I know!"
Huang Dajun, his face ashen, shoved her away. He continued to carefully dig with the shovel. "Stop shouting. Go get a bucket to fill with soil."
Yan Xiangping hurriedly wiped her face and rushed to the yard to get a bucket. Just as she stepped into the yard, she heard someone urgently knocking on the door, which startled her so much that she rushed back into the house.
"Oh no, Lao Huang, someone's knocking on the door!"
Huang Dajun took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to hit someone. How come he never realized this woman was so stupid before?
The knocking on the door grew louder, and they could hear someone calling them. Huang Dajun gritted his teeth and said, "They must have been called here by you. Go and get rid of them."
Yan Xiangping felt a pang of regret and didn't dare delay, so she immediately went to open the door. However, she stood at the door and didn't let anyone in. "Sister Wang, what's the rush so early in the morning?"
Granny Wang craned her neck to look into the yard, but saw nothing. Overcome with curiosity, she asked, "I just heard your voice, howling like a butcher slaughtering a pig. Is someone trying to kill you? Is it your husband, Old Huang?"
Yan Xiangping, with a sour face, pushed her out: "What kind of person are you talking about? It was just a rat crawling on my face. I was so scared that I started talking nonsense. Don't meddle in other people's business all the time."
Granny Wang clearly didn't believe her, but she couldn't force her way in, so she reluctantly looked away, though she still said, "I was just worried something might have happened to your family. We're all neighbors, so of course I had to come and check on you."
Yan Xiangping: "Thank you, my family is doing fine!"
Before the words had even finished, a heart-wrenching scream erupted from inside the room: "Da Mao!!!"
Yan Xiangping shuddered and ran into the house. Granny Wang followed her in after a quick glance.
"Aaaaaah, my dear Mao!! What happened to you?!"
Granny Wang was terrified by the pitiful cries. She rushed over and saw the Huang couple sitting on the ground. The soil under the bed had been dug up, revealing a human head.
"Aaaaaaah! Someone's dead! Someone's dead!!!"
Granny Wang scrambled out of the house, and the Huang couple didn't even think to stop her; they felt like the sky had fallen!
Huang Damao was their only son. Now that their son is dead, what hope do they have for the rest of their lives?
Yan Xiangping frantically dug at the soil with her hands, trying to pull her son out of the ground. Huang Dajun also desperately pulled at his son's body, trying to drag him out. Both of them felt the coldness in their hands, and their hearts were filled with overwhelming despair and hatred.
Who is it?!
Who killed their son?!
Granny Wang shouted wildly outside, immediately attracting more than a dozen people who all gathered in the Huang family's courtyard. They felt uneasy looking at the Huang couple's seemingly deranged appearance.
They've been neighbors for a long time, and they know about the Huang family's situation. Their eldest daughter married far away and they've basically lost contact with her. Only their son is still around, and now that their son is gone, their lineage is extinct. They would go crazy if they were in their shoes.
Looking at Huang Damao, whose body was still half buried in the ground, everyone felt a chill. How could a living person suddenly die?
Someone couldn't help but ask, "Why was Huang Damao buried under his parents' bed?"
Everyone fell silent; they wanted to know too!
"It couldn't be...they..."
The man's voice grew softer and softer until he could no longer speak. Seeing the Huang couple looking half-dead, he dared not say that they were the ones who killed them, but that was what he thought in his heart!
Coincidentally, everyone else thought the same thing, including the police who arrived at the scene.
They believed the case involved fundamental principles of human relations, so they took the Huang couple and Granny Wang directly back to the police station, leaving a group of inquisitive people scratching their heads in frustration.
This incident did not leave any ripples in Yun Wangshu's heart. She went to work and came home as usual. Recently, food has become scarce, so she would always bring some food home with her. At least on the surface, she was stockpiling food.
In August, Suzhou felt like it had been put into a steamer; people were restless, and the whole city was filled with a sense of oppressive tension.
Yun Wangshu slapped the persistent man in front of her unconscious, intending to throw him into the lake, but someone saw it from behind—bad luck.
She turned around with a hostile look: "Stationmaster, have you been following us around? Are you trying to help or take advantage of any loopholes?"
Zheng Guotao approached awkwardly and explained, "I saw him following you and was worried that he might harm you, so I followed him from a distance."
Yun Wangshu: "I should thank you. But station chief, harassment isn't only defined by physical violence. Persisting after a woman has clearly refused is just being a hooligan. If you ever intend to be a hero again, please slap him against the wall the moment he says his second sentence. Otherwise, you'll just be watching a woman being humiliated. Please think carefully."
Zheng Guotao paused for a moment, then pondered for a while: "You're right, I was wrong. All actions that go against a woman's will should be stopped. I apologize for not helping you in time."
Yun Wangshu glanced at the person on the ground, and Zheng Guotao immediately said, "Give him to me, and I will take him to the police station."
Yun Wangshu smiled and said, "Thank you. In return, I can help you buy grain."
Zheng Guotao's eyes lit up instantly. Recently, grain purchases have been restricted, so even if he had money, he couldn't buy any grain. Grain on the black market was being sold at exorbitant prices, and there was no market for it. He had gone several times but still couldn't buy any.
He had a bad feeling and desperately wanted to stockpile more food.
"Thank you very much!"
