Chapter 182 I Heard

She can't leave, at least not now.

Fifth Brother is still in her space, Master Jin Dachun's leg is broken, and there's Zhong Misu... She can't leave, at least not now, she absolutely can't just pack up and leave.

Yi Fengchun did not force her, but politely saw her to the door.

My second aunt and my youngest aunt were loading large and small bags of gifts into General Shen's car.

Su Ruyi saw cigarettes, alcohol, and canned fruit.

It's pretty much the same as General Shen's family's.

She quickly declined.

The two old ladies got really into it. One pushed her toward the passenger seat, while the other quickly stuffed things into the trunk. Their teamwork was perfect, and Su Ruyi had no chance to fight back.

"You can't handle those two old ladies! They were quite the troublemakers when they were young!" Shen Guoliang laughed as he drove. "This is nothing! You haven't seen their real power! Shall I take you home now, or bring your master some food?"

"I need to go to the People's Hospital." Su Ruyi stuck out her tongue.

"What are you going there for?!" Shen Guoliang glared.

“There’s a female educated youth in the brigade who cut her leg yesterday while harvesting. The brigade leader asked me to come to the hospital to inquire about her situation.” Su Ruyi recounted Su Qiaoqiao’s injury.

"He's lazy and doesn't know anything about farming!" Shen Guoliang scoffed. "Just hearing the name Su Qiaoqiao tells you she's got serious bourgeois tendencies!"

Actually, Shen Guoliang was wronging Su Qiaoqiao.

Her name was clearly chosen with the intention of hoping she would grow taller, because her mother was a short, willful woman who was very pretentious.

Su Qiushi really disliked this daughter-in-law, so when she named Su Qiaoqiao, it carried a hint of sarcasm.

Of course, it's a very nice-sounding name.

A dozen minutes later, the two arrived at the entrance of Tieshi People's Hospital.

Shen Guoliang sat in the car waiting, and Su Ruyi went in to ask.

Su Qiaoqiao was admitted to the surgical ward, and Wang Youhe had been watching over her all night.

Upon seeing Su Ruyi, Wang Youhe exclaimed as if he had seen a savior: "That's wonderful, Dr. Su! Please take over for me for a moment, my chronic constipation has flared up again!"

With that, he grabbed some toilet paper and ran off in a flash.

Su Qiaoqiao's legs were bandaged, and she was sitting half-sitting on the hospital bed, receiving an IV drip.

Upon seeing Su Ruyi, she turned her face away, a little embarrassed and a little stubborn.

Yesterday, Su Ruyi saved me, twice.

She knew perfectly well what was going on, but her youthful pride wouldn't allow her to bow her head, apologize, or thank anyone.

Su Ruyi didn't care. After seeing that the IV drip in her hand had run out, she turned around and called the nurse to remove the needle.

The four-person ward only had one patient, Su Qiaoqiao.

Once the nurse left, Su Qiaoqiao and Su Ruyi were left alone, staring at each other.

"What did the doctor say? How many days will I need to stay in the hospital?" Su Ruyi asked.

“Three days, they need three days of IV drips,” Su Qiaoqiao replied, looking at the blood-soaked bandage on her hand, and then couldn’t help but complain, “If my grandfather were here, he could have just applied some herbal medicine and it would have been fine. Why go through all this trouble!”

Su Ruyi didn't respond. She had absolutely no recollection of the grandfather that Su Qiaoqiao kept boasting about.

Haicheng's No. 1 Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor?

The Su family members are all robust; apart from Su Tong, none of them have ever been sick.

Guan Yumei didn't care much about Su Tong's illness. Apart from taking him to the hospital when he had an attack, she never thought of finding him any traditional Chinese medicine doctors or folk remedies.

However, Su Ruyi still held some reverence for this top traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Haicheng.

In such a large city as Haicheng, it's not easy to claim the top spot.

Su Qiaoqiao continued, "Su Ruyi, don't you believe me! My grandfather will be coming to see me in a few days. Then you'll see how amazing his medical skills are!"

Su Ruyi nodded: "Mm."

Su Qiaoqiao's boasting was in vain, and she shut her mouth and remained silent.

The two stared at each other, waiting for Wang Youhe.

After a while, Su Qiaoqiao asked softly, "How is Zhong Zhiqing?"

“It won’t leave you with a disability, but you’ll need to recuperate for three months,” Su Ruyi replied briefly.

The two fell silent again.

When Wang Youhe still hadn't returned, Su Ruyi had no choice but to pinch her nose and go to the restroom to find her: "Aunt Wang! The brigade leader sent me to deliver a message. Do you have any news to take back?"

"Yes, yes, yes! Have Ding Daya come to pick them up the day after tomorrow! Also, have my husband bring me a ream of toilet paper! This shoddy hospital paper is making my ass hurt!" Wang Youhe instructed in a serious tone.

"Okay! Aunt Wang, then... take your time, I'm going now!" Su Ruyi suppressed a laugh and ran out of the hospital.

"Sanhe County State-run Restaurant?" Shen Guoliang started the jeep.

"Let's go!" Upon hearing these words, Su Ruyi reflexively swallowed.

The two ordered four dishes and a soup, each ate two bowls of rice, and each packed about ten lunch boxes to go.

Shen Guoliang insisted on paying, putting on a red-faced and stern face, so Su Ruyi had no choice but to give up her seat.

This time, however, state-run restaurants are charging for lunchboxes.

It seems the chef can no longer afford to send food.

When Su Ruyi was sent back to Dingjiatun by Shen Guoliang, the lunchbox she was carrying was still hot.

Jin Dachun was so hungry that he was eating the biscuits that Su Ruyi had moved to his room before. When he saw the large lunchbox from the state-run restaurant, he cheered.

He didn't even glance at the cigarettes, alcohol, and canned goods that Su Ruyi brought into his room.

"I'll eat these for lunch, and these for dinner! These three boxes are for tomorrow morning! This combination of meat and vegetables is nutritious and delicious!" Jin Dachun opened each lunchbox and set a menu for his next three meals.

After Su Ruyi and Jin Dachun finished eating, she tidied up the stone table slightly and went back into the house. Just as she was about to go into her space to check the merit book, an unfamiliar young man called out from outside the courtyard: "Dr. Su, the brigade headquarters needs to answer the phone!"

She sighed and walked out of the courtyard.

The young man wore glasses and looked rather frail. He introduced himself: "Hello, Dr. Su! My name is Wang Jiaqiang, and I'm the newly elected brigade accountant!"

After saying that, he added, "I went to high school!"

Su Ruyi nodded to him and ran towards the brigade headquarters under the blazing sun.

Although it wasn't as hot as yesterday, the sun was still blazing and there wasn't a breath of wind.

On the second day of the harvest, the fields were bustling with activity.

Fortunately, the cooling soup they brought to the field in the morning had all been drunk, so there were no cases of heatstroke today.

Squad leader Ding Youliang was using a loudspeaker to shout slogans and encourage his team members.

The team members wielded their sickles with the speed of the wind.

Even the people bundling the rice seemed to be moving at double speed.

Su Ruyi arrived at the brigade headquarters and answered the phone: "Hello?"

"Excuse me, are you Dr. Su?" The voice on the other end was that of a middle-aged man, and it sounded a little weak.

"It's me! Who are you?" Su Ruyi was certain that it was an unfamiliar voice.

"Hello, Dr. Su! My name is Hang Shuhuai. I learned about you from Vice Mayor Yi's mother!"

The man who introduced himself as Hang Shuhuai seemed a little nervous, but was very polite. "I heard you cured the old lady's illness. We also have a patient in our family!"
