Chapter 22 Moving

Su Ruyi's original intention was not to buy the house to make money, but to legally make the Su family homeless.

Su Xiangjun's eyes lit up: "I want it!"

His family is large, and there are daily battles between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and between the daughter-in-law and granddaughter-in-law. He has long been troubled by this and wants to move out.

Su Ruyi's courtyard perfectly met his needs.

“We’ll handle the formalities tomorrow morning, but you might have to wait until I go to the countryside before you can take possession of the house. Also, my parents don’t know I’m selling the house, so it might take a little longer to take possession.” Su Ruyi looked directly into Su Xiangjun’s eyes.

"Can I ask why?" Su Xiangjun asked.

“They are not my biological parents. This courtyard originally belonged to me. They occupied my courtyard and abused me,” Su Ruyi lied without batting an eye. “Only my fourth brother is good to me.”

Su Xiangjun immediately understood. He had heard too many stories like this. After a moment's thought, he nodded and said, "Okay! I'll buy it! As long as the procedures are proper, you don't need to worry about me not being able to move in."

That's exactly what Su Ruyi wanted to hear.

Su Xiangjun is a smiling man, but to sit in his position, he must have considerable influence.

Unfortunately, by the time Su Dazhi and Guan Yumei were kicked out, he had already gone to the countryside and couldn't see the wonderful expressions on their faces.

She politely declined Su Xiangjun's invitation to eat at the canteen. When she came out of the food factory, Su Ruyi looked up at the sun and realized it was already past 12:30.

She went directly to the state-run restaurant, bought four large meat buns that didn't require coupons, and put them in her schoolbag.

When Guan Yumei got home, she was washing a pot, and there was no food left on the stove.

Clearly, Guan Yumei did not cook for her.

Su Ruyi didn't mind, and went to the east wing to ask Su Tong, "Fourth Brother, have you had lunch?"

Su Tong nodded: "Mom steamed some sorghum flour buns."

Su Ruyi pulled out two large meat buns: "Won't eating those cause acid reflux?"

Su Tong laughed: "Ruyi, you're so kind! I didn't eat much of that cornbread. I didn't know if you had lunch yet, so I went to the state-run restaurant and bought some steamed buns too. It seems our schedules are just out of sync."

As he spoke, Su Tong took out two identical buns from the drawer and handed them to Su Ruyi: "I ate two, these two are yours."

The brother and sister looked at each other, wanting to burst into laughter, but fearing that Guan Yumei and Su Manao outside would hear, they could only cover their mouths and giggle.

Su Tong poured a large mug of water for Su Ruyi, and Su Ruyi ate two steamed buns slowly and carefully in Su Tong's room. While eating, she also picked up a novel that Su Tong had placed on the table and read it to accompany her meal.

After finishing her meal, Su Ruyi looked at the stacks of books on the floor, wrapped in old newspapers and tied with hemp rope, and asked in surprise, "You finished tidying up so quickly?"

Su Tong nodded and said, "Books are easy to pack. I don't have anything else—as for bedding, I can just roll it up and take it with me when I move out completely."

Su Ruyi nodded: "Then let's move now."

Su Tong asked curiously, "Why are you in such a hurry?"

Su Ruyi took out a stack of meal tickets: "The legendary best canteen in the city—the food factory canteen—is opening to you this afternoon! These are this month's meal tickets. You might as well take advantage of them, so move them right away."

Su Tong thought for a moment and said, "I'll move the books over first, and we can eat in the cafeteria. But I'll come back to sleep tonight. I'm a little worried about you living here alone."

Su Ruyi blurted out, "I'm strong, don't worry."

Su Tong frowned: "Speaking of being strong, Ruyi, what's wrong with you? Don't tell me you have some kind of strange illness? How about we go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow morning?"

Su Ruyi chuckled: "Fourth Brother, I'm perfectly fine!"

Su Tong frowned and said, "I checked the books, and you most likely have... a pituitary tumor. Of course, don't worry, it's basically a benign tumor and completely curable."

Su Ruyi hurriedly shook her head vigorously: "Fourth Brother, I absolutely do not have a pituitary tumor. I just... you might not believe it!"

"Speak!" Su Tong said impatiently, tapping Su Ruyi's forehead as she tried to keep him in suspense.

“A few days ago, I had a dream. In the dream, an old man with a white beard gave me a bowl of ‘Marrow Cleansing Soup’! The old man said that I had suffered too much in my past life, and this was a reward for me.” Su Ruyi said mysteriously, “When I woke up, I found that I was much stronger!”

After listening, Su Tong looked at her for a long time and said, "That does...make some sense."

"It's true. Fourth Brother, when have I ever lied to you!" Su Ruyi said, trying her best to make her eyes appear sincere.

Su Tong: "What's wrong with your eyes? Are they cramping?"

Su Ruyi: "Whether you believe it or not, this is the truth. I was even going to ask the old man for another bowl for you, but he said he was out."

Su Tong seemed to believe it now: "This kind of predestined affinity is naturally not something everyone has."

Su Tong borrowed a cart from the bourgeois young lady next door, and the brother and sister loaded their books into the yard.

Guan Yumei came out with a headband tied around her head: "Fourth brother, what are you doing?"

Su Tong straightened up and smiled, "Mom, I'm moving to the food factory. They've already given me meal tickets, so starting tonight I'll eat at the factory, which will save me on my food rations at home!"

Guan Yumei was quite happy: "That's great! The company's benefits are really good! Moreover, I heard that the food factory's canteen is the only one of its kind in the whole city! Fourth brother, if you eat anything good, remember to bring some home for Mom and Manao to try every now and then!"

Su Tong's smile faded: "There might be a chance."
