Chapter 244 Looking for a beating

The twins looked at Su Ruyi with disdain, their eyes scanning her up and down.

Clearly, Su Yin hadn't said anything good about her.

Without saying a word, Su Ruyi raised her arm and slapped Su Yin across the face twice.

She didn't use much force, but Su Yin's face still turned red.

Su Yin clenched her fist, realizing she couldn't beat Su Ruyi, so she could only try to get away with verbal attacks: "You jinx! Have you got a death wish?! You dare hit your own brother?!"

Su Ruyi slapped him twice more, this time with more force than light slaps.

Su Yin's face immediately swelled up.

"How...how could you hit someone? Are you a female bandit?" the fat girl glared at her angrily.

The skinny girl blocked Su Yin behind her: "That's right, we're going to call the police to arrest you!"

Su Ruyi shoved the skinny girl aside and raised her hand to slap her: "Su Yin, can't you speak properly now?"

Su Yin's mouth was filled with the taste of blood, and he felt that even his molars were loose.

Damn it, how could I forget that this jinx has changed his ways, becoming not only incredibly strong but also extremely irritable?

Why provoke her?

He mumbled, "I'm sorry, Six...Sixth Sister."

Su Ruyi raised her hand and said, "What did you say? I didn't hear you!"

Blood trickled from the corner of Su Yin's mouth: "I'm sorry, Ruyi. I... I'll never call you that again."

"This isn't some jinx, it's a harbinger of doom!" the chubby girl muttered under her breath.

"What did you say?!" Su Ruyi's eyes widened.

"Huh? I didn't say anything! You misheard me!" The chubby girl quickly covered both cheeks.

The thin girl finally got up.

She had just been knocked to the ground by Su Ruyi and felt that she had been caught off guard and attacked.

Standing behind Su Ruyi, she stretched out her leg, clad in steel-toed boots, and kicked her: "Go to hell!"

Su Ruyi naturally sensed the force behind her and dodged it in a flash.

The skinny girl couldn't stop herself.

That kick landed squarely on Su Yin's vital area.

"Ah!!!" Su Yin let out a muffled cry and immediately collapsed to the ground.

She covered her crotch and rolled around like a piece of meat.

"Brother Su Yin, I...I didn't mean to!" the thin girl cried out in panic. "I just wanted to help you get revenge! To teach your sister a lesson!"

Su Yin rolled around for a full three minutes before calming down.

He sat on the ground, his face ashen: "Su Ruyi, what are you doing here?"

"The brigade headquarters sent me to pick up the new educated youth. Now I'm calling out names, Su Yin!" Su Ruyi took out the documents, and her demeanor changed instantly.

"..." Su Yin's face darkened as he looked up at her.

Su Ruyi looked down at him and sneered, "What, not only are you crippled, but you're deaf too? Those who don't show up for roll call, no more waiting! Treat them as evading rural assignments! — Su Yin!"

“…Here!” Su Yin squeezed out the word “Here” through gritted teeth.

“Summer rain!” Su Ruyi continued.

“…Here!” the thin girl with double eyelids replied.

“Summer Dew!” Su Ruyi continued reading.

"It's me!" The chubby girl with single eyelids raised her hand.

“Next time you have to answer ‘present.’ And one more, Xia Tianxiu!” Su Ruyi said, looking around.

"Here!" Xia Tianxiu hurriedly raised her hand and whispered, appearing very timid.

She even gave Su Ruyi a fawning smile.

"Alright, grab your luggage and come with me!" Su Ruyi said, then walked away without looking back.

“Xiuer, Brother Su Yin is injured, his luggage…” Xia Tianyu looked at Xia Tianxiu.

"I'll do it, I'll do it!" Xia Tianxiu, who already had five large bundles on her back, hurriedly picked up Su Yin's two large bundles as well.

Su Ruyi turned around and saw this scene. Her gaze lingered on Su Yin's two heavy-looking bundles, and she was puzzled once again.

Wasn't Su Yin arrested?

Where did all these belongings come from?

As they spoke, the group followed Su Ruyi to the oxcart.

Ding Daya had already started to doze off.

"Put your luggage upstairs and follow along," Su Ruyi instructed.

"Let Brother Su Yin ride in the car!" Xia Tianyu and Xia Tianlu said in unison.

"Can't you understand human language? Put your luggage in the car and come with me!" Su Ruyi said, getting into the car herself.

“Comrade, is it too heavy for the oxcart to pull? I… I’ll carry the two pieces of luggage and go with them. Let Su Yin ride in the cart. He… he’s injured and can’t walk.” Xia Tianxiu lowered her head, her eyelids raised, looking at Su Ruyi but not daring to.

“Okay. But two pieces of luggage won’t do, you need three.” After saying that, Su Ruyi weighed all the luggage, picked out the three heaviest bundles, and handed them to Xia Tianxiu one by one.

Xia Tianxiu carried one on her back and one on her shoulder, clutching the other tightly with both hands, and still managed a humble smile at Su Ruyi: "Thank you for your leniency, comrade! You're a good person! You'll be rewarded!"

Su Ruyi pouted.

She's so subservient; no wonder Su Yin was completely under her thumb in her past life.

Ding Daya raised his eyelids and looked at everything, without saying a word.

After they finished, Ding Daya humbly asked Su Ruyi, "Dr. Su, shall we go?"

Su Ruyi smiled and said, "Uncle Ding, no rush! The captain has assigned me another task that I need your help to complete. Come on, come with me."

Ding Daya unloaded the car, puzzled: "Huh? Is there anything I can help you with?"

As he spoke, Su Ruyi pulled him away.

Su Yin and the three female educated youths were stunned.

Su Ruyi turned around and said sternly, "Stand still! Anyone who dares to run around or tamper with the oxcart will have their work points deducted!"

All four were intimidated and obediently stayed where they were.

Su Ruyi took Ding Daya directly to the state-run restaurant in Tieshi, ordered four dishes and a soup, and the two of them enjoyed a delicious meal.

Although this restaurant doesn't taste as good as those in Sanhe County, the dishes with oil are still very fragrant.

Ding Daya tilted his head back and poured the last of the soup from the plate into his mouth, still a little embarrassed: "Dr. Su, what about those people...?"

Su Ruyi asked curiously, "What do you mean, what should we do?"

Ding Daya stuck out his tongue, understood what she meant, and stopped talking.

Not only did they have a big meal, but Su Ruyi also packed four dishes and a soup to take back to Su Qiushi and Yi Lele.

The two of them ate until their bellies were round and full. As they slowly walked back, they saw Su Yin and three girls eating dry rations.

Clearly, they didn't have much water left; the three of them—Su Yin, Xia Tianyu, and Xia Tianlu—passed around the pot of water.

Summer Xiu, meanwhile, was craning her neck and swallowing dry biscuits with gusto.

With a "moo" from the old ox, Ding Daya started driving the oxcart.

Su Ruyi sat in the front of the car, while Su Yin sat in the back with his back to her.

The twins followed behind the oxcart empty-handed, while Xia Tianxiu carried three large bundles, huffing and puffing as she walked behind them.

She was, after all, a girl, and her strength was limited. She quickly distanced herself from the group.
