Chapter 337 Search

The Qingquan Sanatorium Area is located at the deepest part of the rear garden of the cadre retirement center, occupying two-thirds of the entire rear garden.

This place has preserved the original layout of the former royal palace, and has undergone thorough renovation. The environment is excellent, extremely quiet, and of the highest standard.

Qi Yuan, a big shot from Beijing, was living in Qingquan District at the time.

Only one guest can be accommodated at a time in the entire Qingquan District, so Qi Yuan and his daughter Qi Yaqin are the only two guests in Qingquan District.

After Su Ruyi finished handing over the accommodation arrangements for the 40 trainees to the staff at the front garden, she was led by Cheng Weiguo's bodyguard, Xiao Sun, to the back garden.

Su Qiushi sat in the back row, squinting contentedly at the tranquil scenery in the back garden.

Li Wang was also sitting in the back. He was a little carsick and didn't look too good.

Su Ruyi did not tell her grandfather that she needed to put on a show with Cheng Weiguo here.

Grandpa is getting old and has become more fragile.

Therefore, she simply had Xiao Sun deliberately arrange for her grandfather to stay in a quiet single room on the third floor of the last small building in the hot spring area.

She arranged for Li Wang to stay in the room next to the old man's, and instructed him to keep an eye on the old man's movements. He readily agreed and said that he would stay with the old man the whole time, so Su Ruyi could rest assured.

Cheng Weiguo did not come to greet her.

After settling Su Qiushi and Li Wang in, Xiao Sun carried Su Ruyi's bundle and led her toward another small building.

Su Ruyi's room is on the first floor of this small building, at the end of the corridor, room number 12.

Su Ruyi knocked on the door, and Lan Jun opened it with a smile: "Ruyi, we meet again! I'll be in charge of protecting you during this time, so you must stay by my side at all times!"

As he spoke, he took Su Ruyi's luggage.

Su Ruyi quickly snatched the luggage from Xiao Sun's hands: "No need to trouble Sister Lan Jun, I can do it myself."

While tidying up her luggage, Su Ruyi released her divine sense and carefully inspected the entire room.

Lan Jun occupied the bed by the window, thus monopolizing all the light in the room.

In this room, Lan Jun had very few personal belongings: only a change of clothes, a pair of slippers, and some basic toiletries.

In Lan Jun's bedside table, there was a small cloth bag with its opening tightly tied.

Su Ruyi probed the inside of the cloth bag with her divine sense and found a syringe and several vials of medicine.

This thing is highly suspicious; it's very likely intended to be used against her!

Without further ado, she put the cloth bag directly into her spatial storage.

Lan Jun was completely oblivious, still smiling as he watched her pack her things. He even went to get her a kettle of hot water and wiped the table for her—a stark contrast to his dismissive attitude when he last saw her.

After Su Ruyi finished tidying up, Lan Jun affectionately took her arm: "Let's go, it's noon, the cafeteria should be open for lunch. I heard we're having ribbonfish today!"

They even found out she likes to eat ribbonfish!

Alarm bells rang in Su Ruyi's mind, but she pretended not to know anything and followed Lan Jun to the cafeteria.

Before leaving, she secretly used her divine sense to put the padlock that Lan Jun had locked on the gate directly into her spatial storage.

The canteen was a separate three-story red brick building. Lan Jun took Su Ruyi straight to the second floor to eat stir-fries.

As soon as I went up to the second floor, I saw Grandpa and Li Wang sitting in the corner, already eating.

The two of them ate two dishes and a soup with great relish.

Su Ruyi did not go up to greet them, but instead found a place to sit down that was furthest away from them.

Lan Jun warmly invited them to dinner and then went to serve the dishes.

Su Ruyi's consciousness followed her the entire time.

Lan Jun did not tamper with the food; she served two dishes, a soup, and two large bowls of rice.

The dishes were braised ribbonfish and stir-fried shredded carrots with glass noodles, which tasted very good.

The soup was egg drop soup.

Many of those recuperating here are patients, and the food in this canteen is prepared to cater to their needs as much as possible.

The two ate their meal in silence.

Lan Jun ate quickly, and after finishing, he sat opposite Su Ruyi and waited quietly.

By this time, Su Qiushi and Li Wang had finished their meal.

Su Qiushi also saw Su Ruyi, but he didn't come over to greet her. Instead, he lowered his hat and walked away without looking at her.

Su Ruyi ate very slowly, and only drank the last sip of soup after most of the people in the cafeteria had left.

As the two were walking back to the room door, Su Ruyi used her divine sense to open the door wider.

When they reached the door, Lan Jun saw that it was ajar, with a crack more than an inch wide. Then he noticed that the padlock was gone. His expression changed drastically, and he blocked Su Ruyi's path, saying, "Don't move, there's someone inside!"

Su Ruyi quickly feigned fear and took a few steps back.

Lan Jun didn't bring a gun, but Su Ruyi watched as she reached into her waistband and pulled out a gleaming dagger from somewhere.

Lan Jun kicked the door open and then rushed inside in a flash.

Su Ruyi pretended to be timid and followed to the door: "Sister Lan Jun, shall we call the waiter here?"

"There's no one inside, come in!" Lan Jun's voice was still very tense.

Su Ruyi walked to the door and saw Lan Jun blocking the bedside table drawer with his body, pulling it open to check it.

She heard Lan Jun gasp.

"Where are your keys?" Lan Jun turned around and asked.

“Here it is!” Su Ruyi lifted her shirt, revealing the key hanging on her belt.

Lan Jun's expression changed, and he reached for his waist.

Naturally, she didn't have a key, because Su Ruyi had already taken advantage of her unpreparedness and put her key into her own space.

Lan Jun's face had turned deathly pale. She put the dagger back into a leather sheath at her waist: "Damn it!"

Seeing Su Ruyi staring at her, she stammered, "Ruyi, little sister, quickly check if you've lost anything?"

Su Ruyi countered, "Sister, did you lose your keys?"

Lan Jun nodded.

"What else is missing?" Su Ruyi asked again.

"And... the handkerchief that was in the bedside table is missing!" Lan Jun lied.

"Then we have to call the police!" Su Ruyi said, turning to leave. "This is no small matter; there are thieves in this place! It's terrifying!"

"No! We can't call the police!" Lan Jun blurted out instinctively, then realized his reaction was too strange and corrected himself, "I only lost a handkerchief. If I call the police for this, people will think I'm crazy!"

"Sister, wait a minute! I haven't even checked what I lost yet. Wait a minute!" Su Ruyi said, lifting her blanket and taking out the handkerchief bundle that was underneath.

Both of them immediately noticed that the handkerchief package was flattened.

Su Ruyi cried out with a long face, "It's over, I've lost my fifty yuan!"

Lan Jun gritted his teeth: "Your fifty yuan, is it... is it five ten-yuan bills?"
